  • Current steel makers are trying to develop new manufacturing process to secure price competition and to improve productivity by testing a various kinds of rolling condition of several kinds of steel at TCM. Accordingly, Reverse Mill operation for Stainless steel is changing to TCM operation and furthermore, even general carbon steel and electric steel plate are requested to be worked at TCM simultaneously. By these changing of rolling condition, it become to be necessary to develop new water-soluble cold rolling oil that has a characteristics to be suitable for various working condition and in this report, we would like to mention lubrication condition to fulfill requested characteristics of each steels and development and applying result of multi-purpose water-soluble cold rolling oil which has such an lubrication property.

  • Recent issues in the automotive industries are, improvement of fuel efficiency according to the worldwide $CO_2$ regulation, passenger safety through enhanced crashworthiness, superior design and cost reduction due to price fluctuation of raw material. To meet these demands, steelmaking companies are developing advanced high strength steel and new process technologies such as hydroforming, TWB(Tailor Welded Blank), hot stamping and so on. In addition, eco-friendly and high corrosion resistant coating technologies are getting more attention to comply with the environmental regulations. In this paper, reviews and prospects of recent coating technologies for automotive use are presented.

환율전이와 시장의 반응: 미국 철강시장에서의 한국과 일본의 경쟁 (Exchange Rate Pass-Through and Market Response: Competition between Korea and Japan in the US Steel Market)

  • 환율의 변화에 따른 개별 교역재 가격의 변화는 '환율전이효과(Exchange rate pass-through)'로 불리며, 국제경제학의 가장 중요한 연구분야 중의 하나로 인식되고 있다. 또한 환율변화 당사국의 교역재 가격변화에 따라 시장전체에서 일어나는 환율의 전이현상은, 수출시장과 특정수출국의 환율이 변화할 때 수출국의 가격책정전략과 시장전체의 반응에 대한 정보를 제공해줄 수 있다는 점에서 깊은 연구가 필요하다. 그러나 대부분의 연구는 환율변화에 따른 특정 국가의 수출재 가격변화만을 고려할 뿐, 경쟁국 재화가격의 변화나, 이에 따른 수출대상국의 재화시장이 전체적으로 받는 충격에 대한 연구는 거의 이루어지지 않고 있다. 본 논문은, 한국과 일본의 대미 달러 환율변화에 따른 철강재의 가격변화를 통해 시장의 반응을 분석한다. Bootstrap-after-bootstrap을 활용한 vector error correction 모형과 이에 따른 충격반응함수분석, 그리고 Phillips-Hansen의 추정방법(fully modified estimation)을 통한 분석은 몇 가지 중요한 시사점을 제공하는데, 그중 가장 중요한 두 가지를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 즉, (i) 한일 양국의 환율변화는 미국 철강시장에서의 양국 수출철강가격에 대해 서로 다른 개별적 전이효과를 야기하며, (ii) 여타 수출국의 반응도 한일 양국 중 어느 나라 제품의 가격이 변화하는가에 따라 달라진다는 것이다. 이에 따라 같은 비율의 환율변화에 대해서도 그 당사국에 따라 시장의 가격반응은 달라지게 됨을 알 수 있다.

  • Changes in the price of materials in construction projects is one of the important variables. Therefore, measures are necessary to respond to the demand and supply of materials and price instability. In previous studies, mainly of ready-mix concrete and steel beam analysis was carried out. However, a study of non-ferrous material prices are still insufficient. So, in this study, the researcher identified the causal relationship between the construction cost and non-ferrous materials prices. Construction Cost Index was selected as a proxy variable of construction cost.

  • Reinforcing steel works should be carefully controlled by the construction manager considering the severe fluctuation of the price of reinforcing steel bars and for the safety of structure in building constructions. In particular, preparing rebar placing drawings needs more effort and time than before because of the emergence of higher and more complicated buildings. Moreover, the experience of field engineers or foremen (fabricators or detailers) in preparing placing drawings gives rise to the differences in fabricated bar type and quantity of bars used. To address these problems, this study proposed the support system in preparing placing drawings for reinforcing steel works efficiency. In the near future, if this system can be made available on the web, multiple end-users will be able to share the result; the efficiency of rebar supply chain management will also be improved.

  • Metal Bearing's research that use the clad steel had led in advanced country. Metal Bearing that is produced by domestic companies is ship, vehicles, development equipment and plant equipment. This is Cast White Metal Lining Bearing that is Bimetal Bearing standing 2 generation. Cast White Metal Lining Bearing is foreseen to be used widely on industry whole in the future. Cast White Metal Bearing is product that need precision processing. But the technique is generalized widely. So an advanced country is depending on import from a developing country that price is cheaper than itself manufacture. it is judged that high added value creation by deepening of price competition is difficult. Therefore need product development of new form and is changing to Trimetal Bearing parts. Trimetal Bearing is high quality technique that do compression junction to thin plates of special object on the Back Metal. Therefore, this research developed Trimetal bearing's materials.

Corrosion Resistance of Mg-Added Galvannealed Steel Sheets with Nano-Composite Coating

  • As competition among global automakers intensifies, demand for materials that are better in price and performance is increasing. While steel and plastic materials compete for automotive fuel tanks, plastic materials have advantages such as light weight for automobiles. However, they have high prices. Accordingly, in this paper, four types of Zn-X plated steel sheets, electroplating (X = none, Sn) and galvannealed (X = Fe, Fe-Mg), were manufactured and their applicability as a fuel tank material was evaluated. Nano-composite coating solution with good conductivity was treated on the surface of plated steels using a roll coater and then cured through induction furnace to improve corrosion resistance. Quality characteristics such as corrosion resistance, fuel resistance to diverse gasoline and diesel fuels, and seam weldability were evaluated for the above plated steels. Their properties were compared and analyzed with conventional Zn-Ni electroplating steels. Among the above plated steels, Zn-Fe-Mg galvannealed steels coated with nano-composite coating exhibited better properties than other steels. Detailed experimental results suggest that evenly distributed Mg elements on the coating layer play a key role in the enhanced quality performance.

  • Since Kyung-Bu High Speed Line has been introduced, a railway electrification has been proceeded rapidly. Therefore, in this study, a specification and application standard for an overhead catenary supporting thin walled steel pole using STKT590 material are proposed in order to improve an economical efficiency. To decide the specification, strength analysis, deflection analysis, deflection test and fracture test are performed. If the supporting structures using high strength materials such as STKT590 are installed, the advantages of cost by the materials price reduction and demand and supply are expected.

  • An optimal raw mix model in stainless steel making is developed. The key raw materials in stainless steel making are stainless steel scrap, steel scrap, and alloy materials like Fe-Ni, Fe-Cr. Among those raw materials, the alloy metals are very expensive as well as rapidly price-changing items. Consequently, it is very important to develop an minimal cost raw mix scheme while the produced stainless steel satisfies the required specification in it's composition. The linear programming model is employed to determine the minimal cost raw mix scheme. Compared with the method being used, the developed linear programming model gives much faster and better solution (lower cost raw mix plan). Together with the linear programming model, the database is also developed, which includes the following: 1) data for raw materials, such as compositions, costs, densities, available inventory levels, and so on, 2) the required specifications process. The developed optimal raw mix model will be implemented in VAX computer.
