  • In order to investigate the effect of dietary fatty acids on lipids metabolism in adipose pads and superficial pectoral muscle of chicks, the present, experiment was carried out using signle comb White Leghorn male chicks fed a fat-free diet and diets containing margaric, stearic or linoleic acids. Total lipids of tissues were extracted with a chlorofrom-methanol solution. The lipid components were fractionated by thin layer chromatography and the fatty acid distribution of lipid fractions was determined by gas liquid chromatography. The neck adipose pads contained 34-62% total lipids, in which triglycerides, were dominant, being 97-98%. Margaric, stearic and linoleic acids were distributed at a relatively high rate in the adipose tissue when the corresponding acids were fed, and margaric acid feeding lowered palmitoleic acid distribution and linoleic acid feeding elevated stearic acid distribution. The wet superficial pectoral muscle contained 1.3-1.7% total lipids, of which 77-79% was phospholipids and 11-13% was free cholesterol. When margaric acid was fed, margaric and heptadecenoic acids appeared in the muscle lipids. When linoleic acid was fed, this acid was significantly highly distributed in every muscle lipid fractions, whereas, when stearic acid fed no elevation of stearic acid distribution was observed. In the muscle phospholipids, oleic acid was significantly highly distributed in the stearic acid fed chicks, and the linoleic acid feeding signigicantly lowered the distribution value of palmitic and oleic acids, but elevated the distribution value of stearic acid. And the linoleic acid feeding lowered the distribution value of eicosatrienoic acid and elevated the distribution value of arachidonic acid.

  • This study is to establish the coating technique for synthetic mica and to prepare synthetic mica with the non-aqueous property. The surface coating of synthetic mica is prepared with stearic acid using the high speed stirrer. The characterizations for mica powders coated the stearic acid are carried out by the deposition test, XRD and SEM. The results of research could be coated the stearic acid on the mica by 1600 rpm/min at $70^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. From the observation of SEM was found that the non-aqueous property mica could obtained by mixture ratios for stearic acid and mica, the inner temperature and rotation speed of the stirrer but treated time be unrelated.

  • To preconcentrate trace elements, microgram amounts of 5 heavy metals (Cu, Co, Ni, Zn and Cd) were precipitated with 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine) and metal oxinates were extracted with stearic acid. And then each of the molten stearic acid extract with stearic acid. And then each of the molten stearic acid extract was poured into a glass ring and cooled for specimen preparation. The obtained specimens were analyzed by X-ray fluorescene spectrometry. And then conditions of precipitation formation and extraction, reproducibility, sensitivity and detection limit were observed. The relative standard deviation of specimen preparation was 1.0~5.7% and the detection limit was 5~$50{\mu}g$/100ml. The proposed preconcentration procedure exhibited a considerable inhancement and simplicity in preparing specimens.

  • Co-0.5C-(15~20)Cr-20Ni-8W-(2~7)Fe alloy bond in diamond-impregnated abrasive tool was synthesized by ball-milling and mechanical alloying process. When the powders were mechanical alloyed for 6h, micro-welding in most metal powders was observed irrespective of addition of stearic acid. Without stearic acid in metal powders, partial-ly coarse powders were obtained, which could be unfaverable to the densification of composite of composite powders. The hot-pressed compacts showed rupture strength of 1100MPa and hardness of about $46H_{RC}$, respectively.

  • The biosynthesis of phospholipid and the composition of fatty acid were analyzed in mitochondria isolated from Chlorella ellipsoidea treated with carbon sources (glucose, sucrose, raffinose) during the culture. The growth of Chlorella and total lipid contents in mitochondria treated with various carbon sources was increased to compare with the control. When Chlorella mitochondria was treated with various carbon sources, four kinds of phospholipid were increased predominantly. The major fatty acids utilized for the biosynthesis of the phospholipid were analyzed linoleic acid (average 25.18%) and stearic acid (average 10.52%) in the control. But, it was shown that the major fatty acids in Chlorella mitochondria treated with glucose were stearic acid (average 30.93%), palmitic acid (average 17.47%) and stearic acid (average 20.31%), linoleic acid (average 16.68%) in sucrose treatment and oleic acid (average 17.17%), palmitic acid (average 15.64%) in raffinose treatment.

  • The response properties of quartz crystal coated with stearic acid LB films to organic gases were investigated by measuring the shift of resonant frequency. Stearic acid was used as a sensing material and deposited on the surface of quartz crystal using the Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. The effect of temperature on the quartz crystal coated with stearic acid LB films was also investigated by Scanning Maxwell-stress Microscopy(SMM). As a result, the sensitivity of the quartz crystal coated with LB films to organic gases is dependent on temperature, thickness of LB film and molecular weight of organic gas.

  • Stearic acid LB films was deposited by LB technique. The deposition status of LB films were verified by UV absorbance which was increased in proportion to the number of layers. And, I-V characteristics were measured to investigate the response properties between LB films and organic gases using the distance of electrodes. The current was increased with the applied voltage but decreased as increasing the distance of electrodes. The conductivity of stearic acid LB films using the distance of electrodes was $10^{-8}$[S/cm], which corresponds to that of the semiconductor.
