Recent studies have shown that the short time solution of the equation of motion for the rolling of ships is important in deciding the possibility of capsize of ships due to the excessive heel. Since most of known solutions for nonlinear equations of motion are long time or steady periodic solutions, here a simple way is described to get the short time solutions of the Duffing equation, which was chosen for deriving a criterion for the capsize of the ship. With the small external rolling moment, we first assume the state of the small damping and near resonance. Then, for cases when the frequency of the external moment is higher than the resonant one, an inequality was derived as a criterion for the capsize. This gives the range of the initial condition and the magnitude of the external moment which should be avoided for a ship to be safe from capsize. Furthermore, from the linearized equation, it is also shown that a simple and self-explanatory solution can be obtained consistent with that for the case of no damping, which yields the well-known linear growth with time.

Peltier cells have low efficiency, but they are becoming attractive alternatives for affordable and environmentally clean cooling. In this line, the current article develops closed-form and semianalytical solutions to improve the temperature distribution of Bi2Te3 thermoelements. From the distribution, the main objective of the current work-the optimal electric intensity to maximize cooling-is inferred. The general one-dimensional differential coupled equation is integrated for linear and quadratic geometry of thermoelements, under temperature constant properties. For a general shape, a piece-wise solution based on heat flux continuity among virtual layers gives accurate analytical solutions. For variable properties, another piece-wise solution is developed but solved iteratively. Taking advantage of the formulae, the optimal intensity is directly derived with a minimal computational cost; its value will be of utility for more advanced designs. Finally, a parametric study including straight, two linear, barrel, hourglass and vase geometries is presented, drawing conclusions on how the shape of the thermoelement affects the coupled phenomena. A specially developed coupled and non-linear finite element research code is run taking into account all the materials of the cell and using symmetries and repetitions. These accurate results are used to validate the analytical ones.

The excited state intramolecular proton transfer and physical properties of 7-hydroxyquinoline are studied in various solutions and heterogeneous systems by measuring steady state and time-resolved fluorescence, reflection and NMR spectra. Proton transfer is observed only in protic solvents owing to its requirement of hydrogen-bonded solvent bridge for proton relay transfer. The activation energies of the proton transfer are 2.3 and 5.4 kJ/mol in $CH_3OH$ and in $CH_3OD$, respectively. Dimers of normal molecules are stable in microcrystalline powder form and undergo an extremely fast concerted double proton transfer upon absorption of a photon, consequently forming dimers of tautomer molecules. In the supercage of zeolite NaY, its tautomeric form is stable in the ground state and does not show any proton transfer.

Conventional cyber-attack detection solutions are generally based on signature-based or malicious behavior analysis so that have had difficulty in detecting unknown method-based attacks. Since the various information occurring all the time reflects the state of the system, by modeling it in a steady state and detecting an abnormal state, an unknown attack can be detected. Since a variety of system information occurs in a string form, word embedding, ie, techniques for converting strings into vectors preserving their order and semantics, can be used for modeling and detection. Novelty Detection, which is a technique for detecting a small number of abnormal data in a plurality of normal data, can be performed in order to detect an abnormal condition. This paper proposes a method to detect system anomaly by cyber attack using embedding and novelty detection.
Numerical models for seepage analysis are useful tools to analyze problems and design protection techniques that are related to seepage through a levee. Though every model may have its own limitations and shortcomings, there were no generalized verifications or calibrations for the commercial models. It means that users can run the model and get the result without understanding nor taking any enough training. This paper Investigates applicability and suitability of some seepage numerical models by comparing analytical solutions with experiments in the user's viewpoint. The results showed that it is more desirable to use analyses with unsaturated-unsteady condition rather than those with saturated-steady conditions, since seepage phenomenon of real levees are changed according to water level and soil property. This study also compared the calculated unsteady solutions with the calculated steady solutions for the levee at Koa of the Nakdong River The comparison revealed that as the result, the safety factor of $2.0{\sim}3.5$ has the same effects for seepage protection techniques when they are designed on the basis of steady-state analysis.

Numerical computations were conducted to characterize the three-dimensional laminar flow through an injector orifice having an inclined angle of 30 .deg.. For this study, the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in generalized curvilinear coordinates, using a pseudocompressibility approach for continuity equation, were solved. The computations were performed using the finite difference implicit, approximately factored scheme of Beam and Warming and multi-block grids of complete continuity at block interfaces. The multi-block computations were validated for the steady state using direct comparison of multi-block solutions with equivalent single-block ones, including 2-D 180.deg. TAD and 3-D 90.deg. pipe bend. The comparisons between the numerical solutions and the flow field measurements for a tube with sudden contraction were presented in this work for solution validation. Computational results showed the nature of complex flow fields within the inclined injector orifice, including strong pressure-driven secondary flows in the cross stream induced by the effect of streamline curvature. In addition, asymmetric secondary flows were induced in the Reynolds number range above assumed laminar flow regime considered. However, turbulence calculations and grid dependency studies are needed for more accurate computations.

Bifurcation behavior of ignition and extinction of catalytic reaction is theoretically investigated in a stagnation-point flow. Considering that reaction takes place only on the catalytic surface, where conductive heat losses are allowed to occur, activation energy asymptotics with a overall one-step Arrhenius-type catalytic reaction is employed. For the cases with and without the limiting reactant consumption, the analysis provides explicit expressions, which indicate the possibility of multiple steady-state solution branches. The difference between the solutions with and without reactant consumption is in the existence of an upper solution branch, and the neglect of reactant consumption is inappropriate for determining extinction conditions. For larger values of reactant consumption, the solution response is all monotone, suggesting that multiple solutions are not possible. It is shown that bifurcation Damkohler numbers increase (decrease) with increasing of conductive heat loss (gain) on the catalytic surface, which means that smaller (larger) values of the strain rate allow the surface reaction to tolerate larger heat losses (gains). Lewis number of the limiting reactant can also significantly affect bifurcation behavior in a similar way to the effect of heat loss.

This paper introduces a study of a method for the forward kinematic analysis, which finds the 6 DOF motions and velocities from the given six cylinder lengths in the Stewart platform. From the viewpoints of kinematics, the solution for the inverse kinematic is easily found by using the vectors of the links which are composed of the joint coordinates in base and plate frames, to act contrary to the serial manipulator, but forward kinematic is difficult because of the nonlinearity and complexity of the Stewart platform dynamic equation with the multi-solutions. Hence we, first in this study, introduce the linear estimator using the Luenberger's observer, and the estimator using the nonlinear measured model for the forward kinematic solutions. But it is difficult to find the parameter of the design for the estimation gain or to select the estimation gain and the constant steady state error exists. So this study suggests the estimator with the estimation gain to be learned by the neural network with the structure of multi-perceptron and the learning method using back propagation and shows the estimation performance using the simulation.
The flux behavior in the separation of equimolar bovine serum albumin (BSA) and bovine hemoglobin (HB) in aqueous solutions by cross-flow ultrafiltration (UF) was investigated, in which polyacylonitrile membrane with a molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of 100 kDa was used. BSA and HB have comparable molar mass (67,000 vs. 68,000) but different isoelectric points (4.7 vs. 7.1). The effects of process variables including solution pH (6.5, 7.1, and 7.5), total protein concentration (1.48 and 7.40 ${\mu}M$), transmembrane pressure (69, 207, and 345 kPa), and solution ionic strength (with or without 0.01 M NaCl) on the separation were examined. It was shown that the ionic strength had a negligible effect on separation performance under the conditions studied. Although BSA and HB are not rigid bodies, the flux decline in the present cross-flow UF did not result from the mechanism of cake filtration with compression. In this regard, the specific cake resistance when pseudo steady-state was reached was evaluated and discussed.

Heat transfer and momentum transfer under conditions of both oscillating flow and oscillating pressure within pulse tubes show very different behavior from those for steady state conditions. The analytic solutions of axial velocity and temperature of the gas within pulse tubes were obtained by assuming that the variations in pressure and temperature were purely sinusoidal and small. The shear stress and the heat flux at the tube wall obtained from the solutions are expressed in terms of the cross-sectional averaged velocity, the difference between mean temperature and instantaneous cross-sectional averaged temperature and the difference between mean pressure and instantaneous pressure. It is shown that the complex shear factor, which has been applied to momentum transfer of incompressible oscillating flow, and the complex Nusselt number, which has been applied to either heat transfer with oscillating pressure only or heat transfer of incompressible oscillating flow, could also be used for momentum transfer and heat transfer subjected to both oscillating flow and oscillating pressure, respectively.
