This paper deals with the process to identify the transient exciting force generated from a rotary compressor. The compressor was assumed to be a rigid body. The equation of motion of a rigid compressor supported by three mounts was derived with 6 degree-of-freedom. The exciting forces at the center of mass of the compressor were estimated from the acceleration data measured at compressor shell. Compressor-pipe system was modeled numerically. The accelerations of compressor and pipe were predicted numerically by using the estimated exciting force. A new shape of pipe model was proposed to reduce the vibration. In the prediction by the method in this paper, the maximum acceleration of the pipe could be reduced by 53.7 % at the steady-state and by 12 % at the transient process. In the real experiments, the maximum acceleration of the pipe was reduced by 54.2 % at steady-state and 14.7 % at the transient process. It was verified that the numerical results showed good agreement with experimental results.
In this study, an experiment with large-scale model was performed according to raising embankment in order to investigate the behaviour of failure due to overtopping. The pore water pressure, earth pressure and settlement by high water level, a rapid drawdown and overtopping were compared and analyzed. Also, seepage analysis and slope stability analysis were performed for steady state and transient conditions. The pore water pressure and earth pressure for inclined core type showed high value at the base of the core, but they showed no infiltration by leakage. The pore water pressure and earth pressure by overtopping increased at the upstream slope and core, it is considered a useful data that can accurately estimate the possibility of failure of the reservoir. The behavior of failure due to overtopping was gradually enlarged towards the downstream slope from reservoir crest, and the inclined core after the raising embankment was influenced significantly to prevent the reservoir failure. The pore water pressure distribution for steady state and transient condition showed positive (+) pore water pressure on the upstream slope, it was gradually changed negative (-) pore water pressure on the downstream slope. The pore water pressure by overtopping showed a larger than the high water level at the downstream slope, it was likely to be the piping phenomenon because the hydraulic gradients showed largely at the inclined core and reservoir crest. The safety factor showed high at the steady state, and transient conditions did not show differences depending on the rapid drawdown.

In a wind farm, a large number of small wind turbine generators (WTGs) operate whilst a small number of a large generator do in a conventional power plant. To maintain high quality and reliability of electrical energy, a wind farm should have equal performance to a thermal power plant in the transient state as well as in the steady state. The wind farm shows similar performance to the conventional power plant in the steady state due to the advanced control technologies. However, it shows quite different characteristics during fault conditions in a grid, which gives significant effects on the operation of a wind farm and the power system stability. This paper presents an analysis of response of a wind farm during grid fault conditions. During fault conditions, each WTG might produce different frequency components in the voltage. The different frequency components result in the non-fundamental frequencies in the voltage and the current of a wind farm, which is called by "beats". This phenomenon requires considerable changes of control technologies of a WTG to improve the characteristics in the transient state such as a fault ride-through requirement of a wind farm. Moreover, it may cause difficulties in protection relays of a wind farm. This paper analyzes the response of a wind farm for various fault conditions using a PSCAD/EMTDC simulator.

PFA (power flow analysis) has been recognized as a useful method in vibration analysis of medium-to-high frequency ranges. Until now, PFA method has been developed for steady-state vibration problems. In this paper, PFA method has been expanded to transient problem. New energy governing equations are derived considering time dependent terms in beam and plate. Analytic solutions of those equations are found in simple beam and plate, and are verified by comparing with modal solutions.

The LASER Amplifier is treated in the manner of a Fabry-Perot Resonator with an active media, five layers are considered: air, reflector, active medium(ruby), reflector and air. One dimensional scalar wave equations are derived using the method of boundary value probrems in which it is assumed that incident coherent radiation falls normally on the surface wall. All equations are treated from the transient analysis point of view using the Laplace transform nethods, and are arranged steady state region as an amplifier and transient region as a self excited oscillator. Also some remarks are given on the design problem of LASER amplifier in connection with the transient terms involved.
Load sharing in distributed systems improves systems performance. Research in the field has been focused on steady state performance for load sharing algorithms. However, transient characteristics of such algorithms may be important in a distributed system in which workload for some node is changing. Simulation is the only means to analyze such characteristics. This paper presents a simulation-based analysis of the transient characteristics of four load sharing algorithms ; forward probing, reverse probing, symmetric probing, and multi-threshold symmetric probing algorithms. Discrete event system models for execution of the algorithms in a distributed system has been developed in a SIMSCRIOT II.5 environment. Simulation results indicate that the MSYM algorithm shows the shortest response time in the transient period.
In this paper, I would like to propose a dividing method by estimating the inflection points and the average magnitude energy in speech signals. The method proposed in this paper gave not only a satisfactory solution for the problems on dividing method by zero-crossing rate, but could estimate the feature of the transient period after dividing the starting point and transient period in speech signals before steady state. In the results of the experiment carried out with monosyllabic speech, it was found that even through speech samples indicated in D.C. level, the staring and ending point of the speech signals were exactly divided by the method. In addition to the results, I could compare with the features, such as the length of transient period, the short term energy, the frequency characteristics, in each speech signal.
In this paper, a non-coherent code tracking loop is designed for 3GPP HSDPA MODEM and its performance is analyzed in terms of steady-state jitter variance and transient response characteristics. Analytical closed-form formula for steady-state jitter variance is first derived for AWGN environments as a function of pulse-shaping filter, timing offset, signal-to-interference ratio, and loop bandwidth. Also obtained is the transient response characteristic of a tracking loop. Finally, the performance of the designed tracking loop is confirmed by computer simulations.

Steady-state and transient performance for the medium scale civil aircraft turbofan engine was analyzed. Steady-state performance was analyzed on maximum take-off condition, maximum climb condition, and cruise condition. At 90%RPM of the low pressure compressor, the partload performance was economized. The transient performance was analyzed with cases of the step increase, the ramp increase, the ramp decrease, and the step increase and ramp decrease for the input fuel flow. For the transient performance analysis, work matching between compressor and turbine was needed. Modified Euler method was used the integration of residual torque in work matching equation. At all flight condition, the overshoot of the high pressure turbine inlet temperature was appeared in the step and ramp increase case, and the surge of high pressure compressor was appeared in the step increase case and the ramp increase case within 5.5 seconds of maximum climb condition.

The electrical reliability of the power generation and distribution system of Floating Liquefied Natural Gas vessels has been analyzed according to the operating modes using Electrical Transient Analysis Program in this paper. Electricity is used for the topside processes, cargo pumps for off-loading, thrusters for heading control and marine equipment. It is very important to improve the safety, efficiency, and stability of the electrical power system for successful operation. The voltage variation of the high and the low voltage bus shall be within the primitive limitation range at normal operation loads both in steady state and in the transient state. The power system was simulated and compared with class rule for design verification.
