The problem of the formation of steady stream of flat bottom boundary is revisited by applying a progressive finite amplitude wave as an external flow. A solution for the boundary layer is found by expanding the boundary equation into double Fourier series. A vertical profile of the stream is obtained as a function of the ratio, h/L, where h and L are the water depth and the wave length. For the best applicable range of the external wave, it is shown that the boundary stream is independent of the fluid viscosity, but a function of the wave parameters and the water depth. The stream velocity of the steady boundary layer flow is proportional to the wave phase velocity and the square of the ratio, H/h, where His the wave height. The magnitude of the velocity is insignificant when h/L is greater than 1/5.

A numerical procedure is described for simultaneously predicting the wave exciting forces and drift forces on a Tension Leg Platform (TLP) in multi-directional irregular waves. The numerical approach is based on a three dimensional source distribution method to the wave exciting forces, a far-field method to the steady drift forces and a spectral analysis technique of directional waves. The spectral description for the linear system of TLP in the frequency domain is sufficient to completely define the wave exciting forces and steady drift forces. This is because both the wave inputs and the outputs are stationary Gaussian random process of which the statistical properties in the amplitude domain are well known. Numerical results of steady drift forces are compared with the experimental and numerical ones, which are obtained in the literature. The results of comparison confirmed the validity of the proposed approach.
Two dimensional numerical model of high-order accuracy is developed to analyze complex flow including transition flow, discontinuous flow, and wave propagation to dry bed emerging at natural river flow. The bed slope term of two dimensional shallow water equation consisting of integral conservation law is treated efficiently by applying quasi-steady wave propagation scheme. In order to apply Finite Volume Method using Fractional Step Method, MUSCL scheme is applied based on HLL Riemann solver, which is second-order accurate in time and space. The TVD method is applied to prevent numerical oscillations in the second-order accurate scheme. The developed model is verified by comparing observed data of two dimenstional levee breach experiment and dam breach experiment containing structure at lower section of channel. Also effect of the source term is verified by applying to dam breach experiment considering the adverse slope channel.
The solar wind electrons are made of three or four distinct components, which are core Maxwellian background, isotropic halo, and super-halo (and sometimes, highly field-aligned strahl component which can be considered as a fourth element). We put forth a steady-state model for the solar wind electrons by considering both the steady-state particle and wave kinetic equations. Since the steady-state solar wind electron VDFs and the steady-state wave fluctuation spectrum are related to each other, we also investigate the complete fluctuation spectra in the whistler and Langmuir frequency ranges by considering halo- and superhalo-like model electron VDFs. It is found that the energetic electrons make important contributions to the total emission spectrum. Based on this, we complete the steady-state model by considering both the whistler and Langmuir fluctuations. In particular, the Langmuir fluctuation plays an important role in the formation and maintenance of nonthermal electrons.

Introduction of wave model, considered the effect of tide, wind and wave induced currents at the coastal waters of complex bathymetry, is a very important factor for most coastal engineering design and disaster protection problems. As the steady state spectral wave model could simulate depth induced wave shoaling and refraction, current induced refraction effect, steepness induced wave breaking, diffraction, wind wave growth, and wave-wave interaction that redistribute energy, this would support and compensate the gap in the real field of design where other wave models could not deal and cause wrong estimation. In this study, for that sense, we applied the spectral wave model t the large coastal waters near Gaduck Island where the Busan new port construction project is going on, for better understanding and analysis of wave transformation process. We also compared the simulation results with the calculated from the existing model. From such a trial of this study, we hope that broader and sager use of the spectral model in the area of port design and disaster prevention system come through in near future.
Samchunpo(Sin Hyang) Harbor is located in the bay of Sa Chun, the central south coast of Korean peninsula. The harbor and coastal boundaries have been protecting by natural coastal islands and shoals. Currently, The Sin Hyang harbor needs maintenance and renovation of the sheltered structures against the weather deterioration and typhoon damages. Consequently to support this, the calculation of accurate design wave through the typhoon wave attack is necessary. In this study, calculation of incident wave condition is simulated using steady state spectrum energy wave model(wide area wave model) from 50 years return wave condition. And this simulation results in wide offshore area were used for the input of the extended mild slope wave model at the narrow coastal area. Finally, the calculation of design wave at Sin Hyang harbor entrance was induced by Boussinesq wave model(detail area wave model) simulation. The numerical model system was able to simulate wave transformations from generation scale to shoreline or harbor impact. We hope these results will be helpful to the engineers doing placement, design, orientation, and evaluation of a wide range of potential solutions in this area.
The global performance of the 5 MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine in random waves with or without steady/dynamic winds is numerically simulated by using the turbine-floater-mooring fully coupled dynamic analysis program FAST-CHARM3D in time domain. The numerical simulations are based on the complete second-order diffraction/radiation potential formulations along with nonlinear viscous-drag force estimations at the body's instantaneous position. The sensitivity of hull motions and mooring dynamics with varying wave-kinematics extrapolation methods above MWL(mean-water level) and column drag coefficients is investigated. The effects of steady and dynamic winds are also illustrated. When dynamic wind is added to the irregular waves, it additionally introduces low-frequency wind loading and aerodynamic damping. The numerically simulated results for the 5 MW OC4 semisubmersible floating wind turbine by FAST-CHARM3D are also extensively compared with the DeepCWind model-test results by Technip/NREL/UMaine. Those numerical-simulation results have good correlation with experimental results for all the cases considered.
The numerical damping and dispersion error characteristics associated with difference schemes and a panel shift method used for the calculation of steady free surface flows by a panel method are an analysed in this paper. First, 12 finite difference operators used for the double model flow by Letcher are applied to a two dimensional cylinder with the Kelvin free surface condition and the numerical errors with these schemes are compared with those by the panel shift method. Then, 3-D waves due to a submerged source are calculated by the difference schemes, the panel shift method and also by a higher order boundary element method(HOBEM). Finally, the waves and wave resistance for Wigley's hull are calculated with these three schemes. It is shown that the panel shift method is free of numerical damping and dispersion error and performs better than the difference schemes. However, it can be concluded that the HOBEM also free of the numerical damping and dispersion error is the most stable, accurate and efficient.
Recently, The surface-wave method has widely been used for the site investigation due to the economic advantage and the improved reliability. The typical surface-wave methods currently available are SASW method, MASW method and CSW method. The CSW method has a potential of high-quality measurement, but its inherent problems limited its use to the special cases such as the compaction-quality control. The CSW method uses the steady-state harmonic vibration for the seismic source as in the steady-state Rayleigh-wave method, which is superior to the impact source used for other methods. This study proposed a new procedure to solve the inherent problems of the CSW method and to improve the reliability of the CSW measurements. To verify the validity of the proposed in this study, the SASW results were compared with the CSW results for the numerical simulation of the CSW testing. Also, the feasibility of the proposed method was verified using the field measurements at a geotechnical site.

A projectile when passes through a moving shock wave, experiences drastic changes in the aerodynamic forces as it moves from a high-pressure region to a low pressure region. These sudden changes in the forces are attributed to the wave structures produced by the projectile-flow field interaction, and are responsible for destabilizing the trajectory of the projectile. These flow fields are usually encountered in the vicinity of the launch tube exit of a ballistic range facility, thrusters, retro-rocket firings, silo injections, missile firing ballistics, etc. In earlier works, projectile was assumed in a steady flow field when the computations start and the blast wave maintains a constant strength. However, in real situations, the projectile produces transient effects in the flow field which have a deterministic effect on the overtaking process. In the present work, the overtaking problem encountered in the near-field of muzzle guns is investigated for several projectile Mach numbers. Computations have been carried out using a chimera mesh scheme. The results show that, the unsteady wave structures are completely different from that of the steady flow field where the blast wave maintains a constant strength, and the supersonic and subsonic overtaking conditions cannot be distinguished by identifying the projectile bow shock wave only.
