  • As interests in the quality of data in database systems are growing recently, analysis and improvement of data quality in databases have been an important issue. However, there has yet to be a clear agreement on how to reasonably calculate the total cost of such project. In this paper, based on real project data and budget statistics, we develop a model to estimate the cost for quality analysis and improvement project of a database. We first conduct statistical analysis to build our basic model. Throughout this analysis, we have identified factors that determine the scale of works required to conduct the project and eventually determine the cost. In addition, we have identified factors that determine the complexity of the project. These factors can adjusts the cost determined by the scale of works. Our model is verified and improved by surveys on experts. We apply our model to newly conducted projects and observe that our model estimates the cost of each project reasonably well.

  • Objectives: This study examined the trends in gender disparity in the self-rated health of people aged 25 to 64 in South Korea, a rapidly changing society, with specific attention to socio-structural inequality. Methods: Representative sample data were obtained from six successive, nationwide Social Statistics Surveys of the Korean National Statistical Office performed during 1992 to 2010. Results: The results showed a convergent trend in poor self-rated health between genders since 1992, with a sharper decline in gender disparity observed in younger adults (aged 25 to 44) than in older adults (aged 45 to 64). The diminishing gender gap seemed to be attributable to an increase in women;s educational attainment levels and to their higher status in the labor market. Conclusions: The study indicated the importance of equitable social opportunities for both genders for understanding the historical trends in the gender gap in the self-reported health data from South Korea.

  • Quantification method III is designed by C. Hayashi as visualizing technique for two-way cross-classified tables. Specially in Japan, its usefulness is timely proven in social and marketing surveys. In several instances, relatively large quantification scores are assigned to low-frequency categories. Thus, they lead to unreliable data interpretation. The aim of this study is to develop stable solution to overcome such traits of quantification method III. The solution is of shrinkage type induced by small perturbations and is applied to a multiple response data obtained in a Korean social survey.

  • e discuss proper confidence intervals for interval estimation of a low binomial proportion. A large sample surveys are practically executed to find rates of rare diseases, specified industrial disaster, and parasitic infection. Under the conditions of 0 < p ${\leq}$ 0.1 and large n, we compared 6 confidence intervals with mean coverage probability, root mean square error and mean expected widths to search a good one for interval estimation of population proportion p. As a result of comparisons, Mid-p confidence interval is best and AC, score and Jeffreys confidence intervals are next.

  • Noryangjin fisheries wholesale market is the largest wholesale seafood market in Seoul and the steady supply of fish is important in meeting consumer demand. Recent expansions (such as discount stores) has changed the fish distribution model and Noryangjin Fisheries Market is developing a new customer-oriented service strategy. In this study, we found the customer satisfaction factors and established a survey system for customer satisfaction for Noryangjin fisheries wholesale market. In addition, the customer satisfaction and loyalty levels are accurately diagnosed through surveys; in addition, the strategic direction of the customer satisfaction of Noryangjin fisheries wholesale market is presented.

  • As the utilization of official statistics has been recently increased, the necessity of objective quality assessment also has been increased. Since mean square error(MSE) and response rate, which have been considered as representative quality indicators in the past, may have the limits of use, it has been demanded to develop new quality indicators which are able to reflect the various requirements of users. In this paper, regarding sample surveys conducted by governmental agencies, the flow of procedures in statistics production is analyzed using input-output of each procedure. As the result, how to identify and develop quality indicators for each procedure is discussed, with some instances of indicators. Finally, the quality index using the results of quality assessment would be calculated based on a weighting method by the size of deviation of statistical measures.

  • Nutritional researchers world-wide are using large-scale sample survey methods to study nutritional health epidemiology and services utilization in general, non-clinical populations. This article provides a review of important statistical methods and software that apply to descriptive and multivariate analysis of data collected in sample surveys, such as national health and nutrition examination survey. A comparative data analysis of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) was used to illustrate analytical procedures and design effects for survey estimates of population statistics, model parameters, and test statistics. This article focused on the following points, method of approach to analyze of the sample survey data, right software tools available to perform these analyses, and correct survey analysis methods important to interpretation of survey data. It addresses the question of approaches to analysis of complex sample survey data. The latest developments in software tools for analysis of complex sample survey data are covered, and empirical examples are presented that illustrate the impact of survey sample design effects on the parameter estimates, test statistics, and significance probabilities (p values) for univariate and multivariate analyses.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Although the issues of singles' dietary style and quality of life are becoming important due to the increasing number of singles with economic power, little research has been conducted to date on singles' use of convenience food and quality of life in relation to their dietary style. Thus, the present study intends to provide basic data to improve the quality of life by determining the current status of the use of convenience food and explicating its relationship with quality of life through analyzing the dietary lifestyles of the singles. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The targets of this study were singles, identified as adults between the ages of 25 and 54, living alone, either legally or in actuality having no partner. A statistical analysis of 208 surveys from Seoul, respectively, was conducted using SPSS12.0 for Windows and SEM using AMOS 5.0 statistics package. RESULTS: The convenience-oriented was shown to have a significant positive effect on convenience food satisfaction. HMR satisfaction was found to have a significant effect on positive psychological satisfaction and the convenience-oriented was found to have a significant negative effect on all aspects of quality of life satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: There must be persistent development of food industries considering the distinctive characteristics of the lives of singles in order to satisfy their needs and improve the quality of their lives.

  • We propose a multi-proportions randomized response model by stratified simple random sampling for surveys of sensitive issues of a polychotomous population composed of several stratum. We also systemize a theoretical validity to apply multi-proportions randomized response model (Abul-Ela et al.' model, Eriksson's model) to stratified simple random sampling and derive the estimate and its dispersion matrix of the proportion of sensitive characteristic of population using the suggested model. Two types of sample allocations (proportional allocation and optimum allocation) are considered under the fixed cost. In efficiency, the Eriksson's model by stratified sampling are compared to the Abul-Ela et al.' model.
