The purpose of this study is to analyze whether analogy distance and mathematical knowledge affect on transfer problems solving with different analogy distance. To conduct the study, transfer problems were classified into multiple categories: mathematical word problem based on rates, science word problem based on rates, and real-life problem based on rates with different analogy distance. Then analysed there are differences in participants' transfer ability and which mathematical knowledge contributes to the solution on over the three transfer problem. The study demonstrated a statistical significant difference(.05) in participants' three transfer problem solving and a gradual decrease of the participants' success rates of on transfer problems solving. Moreover, conceptual knowledge influenced transfer problem solving more than factual knowledge about rates. The study has an important implications in that it provided new direction for study about transfer of learning, and also show a good mathematics instruction on where teachers will put the focus in mathematical lesson to foster elementary students' transfer ability.

This descriptive research study investigated the mediating effect of self-leadership on the relationship between critical thinking and problem solving ability of nursing university students. The data were collected from nursing university students in G city. Korea, from 20 Sep. 2019 through 30 Sep. 2019. General characteristics, critical thinking, problem solving ability and self-leadership were surveyed using structured questionnaires. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 21.0. The mediating effect of self-leadership on the relationship between critical thinking and problem solving ability was tested using Baron & Kenny's 3-step hierarchical regression analysis. There were positive correlations between problem solving ability and critical thinking(r=.48, p<.001), between problem solving ability and self-leadership(r=.73, p<.001) and between critical thinking and self-leadership(r=.70, p<.001). In addition, self-leadership had a partial mediating effect(Z=6.64 p<.001) on the relationship between critical thinking and problem-solving ability. Therefore, strengthening of self-leadership is necessary to improve the problem-solving ability of nursing university students. Various strategies through regular education courses and extracurricular activities should be prepared for this purpose.

Analogy, a plausible reasoning on the basis of similarity, is one of the thinking strategy for concept formation, problem solving, and new discovery in many disciplines. Statistics educators argue that analogy can be used as an useful thinking strategy in statistics as well. This study investigated the characteristics of students' analogical thinking in statistics. The mathematically gifted were asked to construct similar problems to a base problem which is a statistical problem having a statistical context. From the analysis of the problems, students' new problems were classified into five types on the basis of the preservation of the statistical context and that of the basic structure of the base problem. From the result, researchers provide some implications. In statistics, the problems, which failed to preserve the statistical context of base problem, have no meaning in statistics. However, the problems which preserved the statistical context can give possibilities for reconceptualization of the statistical concept even though the basic structure of the problem were changed.
Normality is one of the most common assumptions made in sampling and statistical inference procedures without suffering from lack of attention. Its results may lead to an invalid conclusion. We present several testing procedures that can be used to evaluate the effects of departure from normality using concrete examples by hand or with the aid of Minitab. The goal is to influence prospective teachers in order to learn statistical concepts and techniques for testing normality on the basis of the didactical theory.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlations between technological problem solving strategies and variables related with self-regulation of students in engineering college. The subjects for this study are 120 students from engineering college. After using the problem solving strategy task and self-regulation questionnaire, they were classified into two groups, upper 25% group and bottom 25% group. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 10.0 for windows. The statistical technique used for data analysis was Pearson's correlation coefficient and t-test. The major conclusions of this study are as follows. Frist, there is positive correlation between strategies of design and self-efficacy & planning. Second, there is positive correlation between strategies of trouble shooting and self-monitoring, planning and effort. Third, especially self-efficacy, one of the self-regulation subvariables, directly affects on technological problem solving strategies.

In this study, we focus on the classifying and representing data in the elementary mathematics curriculum for 1st and 2nd grades which have been rarely addressed in the previous studies. We analyze the significance of classifying and representing sata in terms of statistical problem solving and variability as the core of statistical literacy. As a result, the classifying and representing data are important for students to recognize the variability which is ubiquitous in the data and to construct distribution of data, respectively. They are reflected in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum as the statistical literacy for addressing data. We suggest some implications to teach the classifying and representing data as the practice of statistical literacy education in their statistics classes for 1st and 2nd grades.
This study aims to look into the characteristics of argumentation in the task context of 'Monty Hall problem' at a high school probability class. As a result of an analysis of classroom discourses on the argumentation between teachers and second-year students in one upper level class in high school using Toulmin's argument pattern, it was found that it would be important to create a task context and a safe classroom culture in which the students could ask questions and refute them in order to make it an argument-centered discourse community. In addition, through the argumentation of solving complex problems together, the students could be further engaged in the class, and the actual empirical context enriched the understanding of concepts. However, reasoning in argumentation was mostly not a statistical one, but a mathematical one centered around probability problem-solving. Through these results of the study, it was noted that the teachers should help the students actively participate in argumentation through the task context and question, and an understanding of a statistical reasoning of interpreting the context would be necessary in order to induce their thinking and reasoning about probability and statistics.
Purpose: Previous studies rarely investigated the effects of the metacognitive reading strategies on reading engagement, particularly in globalized higher education, while those studies examined reading problems and engagement with lower reading level. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the metacognitive reading strategies including global reading, problem solving, and supporting reading on reading engagement that include argentic, behavior, emotional, and cognitive engagement in global learning environment. This study investigated research questions: how do global reading, problem solving, and supporting reading strategies affect argentic, behavior, emotional, and cognitive reading engagement? Research design, Data, and methodology: This study collected data via online survey in globalized learning environment. This study applied statistical analyses, such as factor and regression analyses and ANOVA. Results: The results of this study showed that metacognitive reading strategies had significant effects on student reading engagement while they were reading class materials in English for academic purposes. Conclusions: This study provides managerial implications in higher education by providing better strategies to enhance learning skills in global context. In particular, this study provides implications that the effects of problem solving and supporting strategies could be improved by adopting better management systems in globalized education.

In general, using information and communication technology (ICT) to support problem-solving is becoming increasingly common across various industries, sectors, and regions. However, there have been few analyses on the factors affecting ICT problem-solving among officers working at People's Committees of mountainous communes. Using survey data, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and multivariable linear regression, this study examined the factors that influence the use of ICT in resolving works among community officers at People's Committees in the Northwest mountainous region of Vietnam. The results showed that three factors with statistical significance affecting the dependent variable are computer skills, gender, and occupation of community officers. Therefore, it is recommended that officers participate in ICT training courses or engage in regular self-study to improve their computer skills and qualifications. Both men and women should also prioritize the use of ICT equipment. The study also found that officers in managerial positions were more likely to use ICT for problem-solving than their counterparts. However, some factors that affect the use of ICT were not identified in this study, leaving room for further research.
Analogy, based on a similarity, is to infer the properties of the similar object from properties of an object. It can be a very useful thinking tool for learning mathematical patterns and laws, noticing on relational properties among various situations. The purpose of this study, when manipulating hint condition, figure and table conditions and the amount of original learning by using algebra word problems, is to verify the effects of analogical transfer in solving equivalent, isomorphic and similar problems according to the similarity of source problems and target ones. Five study questions were set up for the above purpose. It was 354 first grade students of S and G middle schools in Seoul that were experimented for this study. The data was processed by MANOVA analysis of statistical program, SPSS 10.0. The results of this studies would indicate that most of the students would be poor at solving isomorphic and similar problems in the performance of analogical transfer according to the similarity of source and target problems. Hints, figure and table conditions did not facilitate the analogical transfer. Merely, on the condition that amount of teaming was increased, analogical transfer of the students was facilitated. Therefore, it is necessary to have students do much more analogical problem-solving experience to improve their analogical reasoning ability through the instruction program development in the educational fields.
