  • Some rank tests for comparing r treatments against ordered alternatives are proposed when some of data are randomly cemsored, which are the weighted logrank tests based on pairwise-ranking scheme. The covariances of the proposed test statistics are explicitly obtained from the results of the counting process theory and the test procedures are illustrated by a numerical example. Simulation studies are also performed for comparing with the other well-known tests.

  • We consider nonstationary autoregressive autoregressive process with infinite variance of error. In the case of infinite cariance, the limiting distribution of the estimated coefficient is different from that under the finite cariance assumption. In this paper we show that the bootstrap method can be used to approximate the distribution of ordinary least squares estimator of the coefficient in the first order random walk process with infinite variance through some empirical studies and we suggest a test procedure based on bootstrap method for the unit root test.

  • In this paper, we consider two components system in which the lifetimes follow the bivariate Pareto model with random censored data. We assume that the censoring time is independent of the lifetimes of the two components. We develop large sample tests for testing independence between two components. Also we present simulated study which is the test based on asymptotic normal distribution in testing independence.

  • The purpose of this paper is to discuss distribution-free tests of hypothesis that the random samples are identically distributed against the epidemic alternative. But most tests that have been considered are depended only on specific null distribution. Two nonparametric tests are considered and compared with a likelihood ratio test by the empirical powers.

  • Main objective of the present study is to determine the statistical properties and suitable probability distribution functions of spectral displacements from nonlinear static and nonlinear dynamic analysis within the frame work of Monte Carlo simulation for typical low rise and high rise RC framed buildings located in zone III and zone V and designed as per Indian seismic codes. Probabilistic analysis of spectral displacement is useful for strength assessment and loss estimation. To the author's knowledge, no study is reported in literature on comparison of spectral displacement including the uncertainties in capacity and demand in Indian context. In the present study, uncertainties in capacity of the building is modeled by choosing cross sectional dimensions of beams and columns, density and compressive strength of concrete, yield strength and elastic modulus of steel and, live load as random variables. Uncertainty in demand is modeled by choosing peak ground acceleration (PGA) as a random variable. Nonlinear static analysis (NSA) and nonlinear dynamic analysis (NDA) are carried out for typical low rise and high rise reinforced concrete framed buildings using IDARC 2D computer program with the random sample input parameters. Statistical properties are obtained for spectral displacements corresponding to performance point from NSA and maximum absolute roof displacement from NDA and suitable probability distribution functions viz., normal, Weibull, lognormal are examined for goodness-of-fit. From the hypothesis test for goodness-of-fit, lognormal function is found to be suitable to represent the statistical variation of spectral displacement obtained from NSA and NDA.

  • For highly reliable products, it is difficult to assess the lifetime of the products with traditional life tests. Accordingly, a recent approach is to observe the performance degradation of product during the test rather than regular failure time. This study compares performances of three methods(i.e. the approximation, analytical and numerical methods) to estimate the parameters and quantiles of the lifetime when the time-to-failure distribution follows Weibull and lognormal distributions under a random coefficient degradation rate model. Numerical experiments are also conducted to investigate the effects of model error such as measurements in a random coefficient model.

  • While the frequency of seismic occurrence has been increasing recently, the domestic seismic response system is weak, the objective of this research is to compare and analyze the seismic vulnerability of buildings using statistical analysis and machine learning techniques. As the result of using statistical technique, the prediction accuracy of the developed model through the optimal scaling method showed about 87%. As the result of using machine learning technique, because the accuracy of Random Forest method is 94% in case of Train Set, 76.7% in case of Test Set, which is the highest accuracy among the 4 analyzed methods, Random Forest method was finally chosen. Therefore, Random Forest method was derived as the final machine learning technique. Accordingly, the statistical analysis technique showed higher accuracy of about 87%, whereas the machine learning technique showed the accuracy of about 76.7%. As the final result, among the 22,296 analyzed building data, the seismic vulnerabilities of 1,627(0.1%) buildings are expected as more dangerous when the statistical analysis technique is used, 10,146(49%) buildings showed the same rate, and the remaining 10,523(50%) buildings are expected as more dangerous when the machine learning technique is used. As the comparison of the results of using advanced machine learning techniques in addition to the existing statistical analysis techniques, in spatial analysis decisions, it is hoped that this research results help to prepare more reliable seismic countermeasures.

  • Most methods for describing the relationship among random variables require specific probability distributions and some assumptions of random variables. The mutual information based on the entropy to measure the dependency among random variables does not need any specific assumptions. And the redundancy which is a analogous version of the mutual information was also proposed. In this paper, the redundancy and mutual information are explored to multi-dimensional categorical data. It is found that the redundancy for categorical data could be expressed as the function of the generalized likelihood ratio statistic under several kinds of independent log-linear models, so that the redundancy could also be used to analyze contingency tables. Whereas the generalized likelihood ratio statistic to test the goodness-of-fit of the log-linear models is sensitive to the sample size, the redundancy for categorical data does not depend on sample size but its cell probabilities itself.

  • Using a linear loss function, this paper considers the one-sided testing problem for the exponential distribution via the empirical Bayes(EB) approach. Based on right censored data, we propose an EB test for the exponential parameter and obtain its convergence rate and asymptotic optimality, firstly, under the condition that the censoring distribution is known and secondly, that it is unknown.

  • A procedure is considered to the problem of testing whether there exist changes in location at possibly two points in a sequence of independent random variables which are successively drawn from normal population. A test statistics based on modified likelihood ratio is proposed and its asymptotic null distribution is derived through the stochastic process representation. A small sample power comparison is made by Monte Carlo method.
