  • We shall propose the MME MLE and UMVUE for the mean parameter and the right-tail probability in a power function distribution and obtain the mean squared errors for the proposed estimators. And we shall compare numerically efficiencies of the MME MLE and UMVUE of the mean parameter and the right-tail probability in a power function distribution.

  • In this paper, we derive the approximate maximum likelihood estimators of the scale parameter and the location parameter in a double Rayleigh distribution based on multiply Type-II censored samples. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error for various censored samples.

  • For text categorization task, distinctive text features selection is important due to feature space high dimensionality. It is important to decrease the feature space dimension to decrease processing time and increase accuracy. In the current study, for text categorization task, we introduce a novel statistical feature selection approach. This approach measures the term distribution in all collection documents, the term distribution in a certain category and the term distribution in a certain class relative to other classes. The proposed method results show its superiority over the traditional feature selection methods.

통계적 공간상세화 기법의 시공간적 강우분포 재현성 비교평가 (Comparative Evaluation of Reproducibility for Spatio-temporal Rainfall Distribution Downscaled Using Different Statistical Methods)

  • Various techniques for bias correction and statistical downscaling have been developed to overcome the limitations related to the spatial and temporal resolution and error of climate change scenario data required in various applied research fields including agriculture and water resources. In this study, the characteristics of three different statistical dowscaling methods (i.e., SQM, SDQDM, and BCSA) provided by AIMS were summarized, and climate change scenarios produced by applying each method were comparatively evaluated. In order to compare the average rainfall characteristics of the past period, an index representing the average rainfall characteristics was used, and the reproducibility of extreme weather conditions was evaluated through the abnormal climate-related index. The reproducibility comparison of spatial distribution and variability was compared through variogram and pattern identification of spatial distribution using the average value of the index of the past period. For temporal reproducibility comparison, the raw data and each detailing technique were compared using the transition probability. The results of the study are presented by quantitatively evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each method. Through comparison of statistical techniques, we expect that the strengths and weaknesses of each detailing technique can be represented, and the most appropriate statistical detailing technique can be advised for the relevant research.

Further Applications of Johnson's SU-normal Distribution to Various Regression Models

  • This study discusses Johnson's $S_U$-normal distribution capturing a wide range of non-normality in various regression models. We provide the likelihood inference using Johnson's $S_U$-normal distribution, and propose a likelihood ratio (LR) test for normality. We also apply the $S_U$-normal distribution to the binary and censored regression models. Monte Carlo simulations are used to show that the LR test using the $S_U$-normal distribution can be served as a model specification test for normal error distribution, and that the $S_U$-normal maximum likelihood (ML) estimators tend to yield more reliable marginal effect estimates in the binary and censored model when the error distributions are non-normal.

  • When a neutral particle beam(NPB) aimed at the object and receive a small number of neutron signals at the detector, it follows approximately Poisson distribution. Under the four assumptions in the presence of errors and uncertainties for the Poisson parameters, an exact probability distribution of neutral particles have been derived. The probability distribution for the neutron signals received by a detector averaged over the three sources of errors is expressed as a four-dimensional integral of certain data. Two of the four integrals can be evaluated analytically and thereby the integral is reduced to a two-dimensional integral. The monotone likelihood ratio(MLR) property of the distribution is proved by using the Cauchy mean value theorem for the univariate distribution and multivariate distribution. Its MLR property can be used to find a criteria for the hypothesis testing problem related to the distribution.

The Proportional Likelihood Ratio Order for Lindley Distribution

  • The proportional likelihood ratio order is an extension of the likelihood ratio order for the non-negative absolutely continuous random variables. In addition, the Lindley distribution has been over looked as a mixture of two exponential distributions due to the popularity of the exponential distribution. In this paper, we first recalled the above concepts and then obtained various properties of the Lindley distribution due to the proportional likelihood ratio order. These results are more general than the likelihood ratio ordering aspects related to this distribution. Finally, we discussed the proportional likelihood ratio ordering in view of the weighted version of the Lindley distribution.

원분포 특성을 고려한 설계정수의 통계적 신정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Statistical Determination of Design Parameters Considering the Original Distribution Characteristics)

  • 본 연구에서는 표본의 원분포 특성을 고려하여 통계처리한 경우의 설계정수와 그렇지 않은 경우를 비교하였다. 통계처리를 한 경우는 통계처리 후에도 비슷한 양상을 나타냈으며 평균값의 경우 최대 약 19%의 편차가 발생하였다. 표본의 분포 특성을 무조건 정규 분포화 하는 것은 모집단의 특성을 왜곡하게 되므로 설계정수 산정시 표본의 분포 특성을 고려하여 통계처리를 하는 것이 타당할 것으로 판단된다.

Tilted beta regression and beta-binomial regression models: Mean and variance modeling

  • This paper proposes new parameterizations of the tilted beta binomial distribution, obtained from the combination of the binomial distribution and the tilted beta distribution, where the beta component of the mixture is parameterized as a function of their mean and variance. These new parameterized distributions include as particular cases the beta rectangular binomial and the beta binomial distributions. After that, we propose new linear regression models to deal with overdispersed binomial datasets. These new models are defined from the proposed new parameterization of the tilted beta binomial distribution, and assume regression structures for the mean and variance parameters. These new linear regression models are fitted by applying Bayesian methods and using the OpenBUGS software. The proposed regression models are fitted to a school absenteeism dataset and to the seeds germination rate according to the type seed and root.

중·고등학생들의 비형식적 통계적 추리의 수준 연구 (Study on the Levels of Informal Statistical Inference of the Middle and High School Students)

  • 통계교육 연구자들은 형식적 추리 방법을 지도하기에 앞서 비형식적 추리를 지도할 것을 강조하며 통계적 추리의 발달 과정에 주목하고 있다. 본 연구는 표본 비교하기 과제와 모집단의 그래프 추측하기 과제를 해결하는 과정에서 나타나는 중 고등학생들의 비형식적 통계적 추리의 수준과 각 수준별 특징을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 표본 비교하기 과제에서는 개인적인 의견에 기초하여 타당하지 않은 추리를 하는 수준, 자료에 대한 국소적 관점을 가진 수준, 자료에 대한 전체적 관점으로 전환되는 수준, 분포의 다각적인 측면에 주목하는 수준, 통계적 개념들을 통합하여 추리하는 수준이 확인되었다. 모집단의 그래프 추측하기 과제에서는 개인적인 의견에 기초하여 타당하지 않은 추리를 하는 수준, 표본대표성에만 주목하고 표집변이성을 고려하지 않는 수준, 표본대표성과 표집변이성을 모두 고려하며 분포의 한 측면에 주목하여 부분적으로 타당한 추리를 하는 수준, 분포의 다각적 측면에 주목하는 수준, 통계적 개념들을 통합하여 추리하는 수준이 확인되었다.
