In this paper, development of the three-dimensional structural analysis is performed by applying FETI-local method. In the FETI-local method, the penalty term is added as a preconditioner. The OPT-DKT shell element is used in the present structural analysis. Newmark-${\beta}$ method is employed to conduct the dynamic analysis. The three-dimensional FETI-local static structural analysis is conducted. The contour and the displacement of the results are compared following the different number of sub-domains. The computational time and memory usage are compared with respect to the number of CPUs used. The three-dimensional dynamic structural analysis is conducted while applying FETI-local method. The present results show appropriate scalability in terms of the computational time and memory usage. It is expected to improve the computational efficiency by combining the advantages of the original FETI method, i.e., FETI-mixed using the mixed local-global Lagrange multiplier.
The recent high speed propeller with blade sweep is required to have high strength to get the thrust to fly at high speed. The high stiffness and strength carbon/epoxy composite material is used for the major structure and skin-spar-foam sandwich structural type is adopted for advantage in terms of the blade weight. As a design procedure for the present study, the structural design load is estimated through investigation on aerodynamic load and then flanges of spars from major bending loads and the skin from shear loads are sized using the netting rule and Rule of Mixture. In order to investigate the structural safety and stability, stress analysis is performed by finite element analysis code MSC. NASTRAN. It is found that current methodology of composite structure design is a valid method through the static structural test of prototype blade.

This paper presents the results of a structural analysis to determine design variables such as the inner basket array type, and thicknesses of the outer shell and the lid and bottom of a spent nuclear fuel disposal canister. The canister construction type introduced here is a solid structure with a cast iron insert and a corrosion resistant overpack, which is designed for the spent nuclear fuel disposal in a deep repository in the crystalline bedrock, entailing an evenly distributed load of hydrostatic pressure from the groundwater and large swelling pressure from the bentonite buffer. Hence, the canister must be designed to withstand these large pressure loads. Many design variables may affect the structural strength of the canister. In this study, among those variables, the array type of inner baskets and thicknesses of outer shell and lid and bottom are attempted to be determined through a linear static structural analysis. Canister types studied here are one for the pressurized water reactor (PWR) fuel and another for the Canadian deuterium and uranium reactor (CANDU) fuel.

The structural behaviors under wheel loads are much different from those under uniform loads which are generally adopted for the design of parking garage. In such a viewpoint, the structural behavior of a Half-PC concrete underground parking garage under wheel loads was investigated using the site instrumentations. The static wheel loads were applied on the structure to evaluate the actual static resistance, and moving load tests were also performed to evaluate the impact factors of the structure. Besides, the impact tests were also conducted to estimate the modal parameters of the structure. Through the experimental investigations, it was found that the structural performance of the underground parking garage can be improved by use of structural type such as Half-PC concrete structures.
The present paper deals with the identification of a concentrated damage in an elastic parabolic arch through the minimization of an objective function which measures the differences between numerical and experimental values of static displacements. The damage consists in a notch that reduces the height of the cross section at a given abscissa and therefore causes a variation in the flexural stiffness of the structure. The analytical values of static displacements due to applied loads are calculated by means of the principle of virtual work for both the undamaged and damaged arch. First, pseudo-experimental data are used to study the inverse problem and investigate whether a unique solution can occur or not. Various damage intensities are considered to assess the reliability of the identification procedure. Then, the identification procedure is applied to an experimental case, where displacements are measured on a prototype arch. The identified values of damage parameters, i.e., location and intensity, are compared to those obtained by means of a dynamic identification technique performed on the same structure.

In this paper, a multi-step optimization using a G.A. (Genetic Algorithm) with variable penalty function is introduced to the structural design optimization of a 5-head route machine. Our design procedure consist of two design optimization stage. The first stage of the design optimization is static design optimization. The following stage is dynamic design optimization stage. In the static optimization stage, the static compliance and weight of the structure are minimized simultaneously under some dimensional constraints and deflection limits. On the other hand, the dynamic compliance and the weight of the machine structure are minimized simultaneously in the dynamic design optimization stage. As the results, dynamic compliance of the 5-head router machine was decreased by about 37% and the weight of the structure was decreased by 4.48% respectively compared with the simplified structure model.
The objective of this research is to propose a new global damage detection parameter, termed as the static defect energy (SDE). This candidate parameter possesses the ability to detect, locate and quantify structural damage. To have a full understanding about this parameter and its applications, the scope of work can be divided into several tasks: theory and formulation, numerical simulation studies, experimental verification and feasibility studies. This paper only deals with the first part of the task. Brief introduction will be given to the dynamic defect energy (DDE) after systematically reviewing the previous works. Process of applying the perturbation method to the oscillatory system to obtain a static expression will be followed. Two implementation methods can be used to obtain SDE equations and the diagrams. Both results are equally good for damage detection.

In this study, nonlinear static and dynamic aeroelastic analyses for a high-aspect-ratio wing have been performed. To achieve these aims, the transonic small disturbance (TSD) theory for the aerodynamic analysis and the large deflection beam theory considering a geometrical nonlinearity for the structural analysis are applied, respectively. For the coupling between fluid and structure, the transformation of a displacement from the structural mesh to the aerodynamic grid is performed by a shape function which is used for the finite element and the inverse transformation of force by work equivalent load method. To validate the current method, the present analysis results of a high-aspect-ratio wing are compared with the experimental results. Static deformations in the vertical and torsional directions caused by an angle of attack and gravity loading are compared with experimental results. Also, static and dynamic aeroelastic characteristics are investigated. The comparisons of the flutter speed and frequency between a linear and nonlinear analysis are presented.

A geometrically non-linear finite element formulation of spatial cable networks is presented using three cable elements. Firstly, derivation procedures of tangent stiffness and mass matrices for the space truss element and the elastic catenary cable element, and the isoparametric cable element are summarized. The load incremental method based on Newton-Raphson iteration method and the dynamic relaxation method are presented in order to determine the initial static state of cable nets subjected to self-weights and support motions. Furthermore, static non-linear analysis of cable structures under additional live loads are performed based on the initial configuration. Challenging example problems are presented and discussed in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the present finite element method and investigate static non-linear behaviors of cable nets.
A new damage identification technique using static displacement data is developed to assess the structural integrity of bridge structures. In the conventional damage assessment techniques using dynamic response, it is usually difficult to obtain a significant natural frequencies variation from the measured data because the natural frequencies variation is intrinsically not sensitive to the damage of a bridge. In this proposed identification method, the stiffness reduction of the bridges can be estimated using the static displacement data measured periodically and a specific loading test is not required. The static displacement data due to the dead load of the bridge structure can be measured by devices such as a laser displacement sensor. In this study, structural damage is represented by the reduction in the elastic modulus of the element. The damage factor of the element is introduced to estimate the stiffness reduction of the bridge under consideration. Finally, the proposed algorithm is verified using various numerical simulation and compared with other damage identification method. Also, the effect of noise and number of damaged elements on the identification are investigated. The results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient for damage identification of the bridges.
