  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate the effects of **the Thera-band exercise program on the lower extremities muscle strength and balance in rural female farmers. Method: The participants were 19 rural women age of 40 or over who were living in the area within the jurisdiction of a public health center in North Chung Province and who agreed to participate in the study. The Thera-band exercise program was implemented for 10 weeks from Jan 17. to Mar 31. 2005. Total time was 60 minutes, 5 times a week. Paired t-test was used to analyze the data using the SPSS program. Result: The results of study showed that thigh muscle strength(t= 6.718, p <.001) and the dynamic balance(t=4.934, p <.001) decreased significantly. Ankle muscle strength(t=-6.739, pp <.001) and static balance (t=-2.395, p=.025) increased significantly. Conclusion: The results suggest that the Thera-band exercise program could be effective in improving thigh muscle strength, ankle muscle strength, the static balance, and the dynamic balance of rural female farmers. Further study is needed to compare strength and balance before and after the exercise program and to use a control group for comparison. Also it is needed to do more study on the appropriate length of time that the intervention should be given in order to achieve maximum results.

  • Work-related falls are a major problem in the construction and roofing industries. To avoid serious injury to the worker caused by high decelerations or forces, different systems to absorb the energy of a fall are implemented in personal protective equipment. In this study, shock energy absorber lanyard protection tube was prepared using high tenacity PET fiber, P-aramid fiber, and UHMWPE fiber, respectively. Dynamic load test and static load test, bursting strength test based on the Korea fall protection equipment standard(Korea Occupational Safety & Health Agency standard 2013-13) or conformity European safety test(CE : EN355) were conducted. Especially maximum arrest force by dynamic load test of energy absorber showed below 6,000N.

  • The static test was performed to verify the effect of the joint in the UHPC bridge deck slab and the minimum lap-spliced length was presented. A total of six test members was fabricated to estimate the static behavior of the steam curing UHPC bridge deck slab joint by the four points bending test method. The lap-spliced joint type was expected to be not only simple but also efficient in UHPC structure because of the high bond stress of UHPC. Test results show that the decrease of maximum flexural strength was about 30% and the minimum lap-spliced length which behaved similar to the continued reinforcement in strength and ductility was 150 mm.

  • Structural experiment result showed that PHC(d=600mm) Pile used as a common compression member could resist 83.6 ~ 91.6 tonf of ultimate tension force, if the adhesion of P.C. bar of PHC pile to the concrete foundation is strengthened. Considering a proper safety factor to ultimate tension strength, PHC pile can substitute the anti-floating anchor, or reduce the number of anchors. For this purpose, pullout resistance behavior of a Bored pile embedded in real ground as well as structural tension strength of PHC pile must be evaluated. This study performed the static pullout tests to evaluate the pullout behavior of bored pile, and compared the test results with design value of side resistance. To evaluate the pullout resistance easily, static pullout test results were compared with dynamic loading test results using PDA. As a result, cement paste of the bored pile was hardened which is after 15 days, LH side resistance design value corresponded well to the Static pullout test results, also to the side resistance evaluated by dynamic loading test.

  • Recently, Carbon Fiber Sheets(CFS) have been used for strengthening the deteriorated RC beams and bridge decks because of its resistant capacity of corrosion and easy repairing works. In this study, the static test tare performed on RC bridge decks strengthened with CFS. Test results show that ultimate strength of specimens strengthened with CFS is increased as 15~26% comparing to the control specimen.

  • The Hydraulically driven test system and ${\Phi}100mm$ split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) test device were employed to research the quasi-static and dynamic mechanical properties of concrete specimens which has been immersed for 60 days in sodium sulfate (group S1) and sodium chloride (group S2) solution, the evolution of their mass during corrosive period was explored at the same time, and the mechanism of performances lost was analyzed from the microscopic level by using scanning electron microscope. Results of the experimental indicated that: their law of mass both presents the trend of continuous rising during corrosive period, and it increases rapidly on the early days, the mass growth of group S1 and group S2 in first 7 days are 76.78% and 82.82% of their total increment respectively; during the corrosive period, the quasi-static compressive strength of specimens in two groups are significantly decreased, both of which present the trend of increase first and then decrease, the maximum growth rate of group S1 and group S2 are 7.52% and 12.71% respectively, but they are only 76.23% and 82.84% of specimens which under normal environment (group N) on day 60; after immersed for 60 days, there were different decrease to dynamic compressive strength and specific energy absorption, and so as their strain rate sensitivities. So the high salinity environment has a significant effect of weaken the quasi-static and dynamic mechanical performance of concrete.

  • The surfacing of bridge-decks are object to secure trafficability and to protect bridge face from impact load of traffic volume and other external conditions. But the deformation of pavements and cracks happen due to the damage of the bridge-decks surfacing from the increase of the traffic, short maintenance period and continuous vibration of bridge. This test is to make the 3-type high performance concrete that has different mixing ratio and is added the blast furnace slag, fly ash and silica respectively, and to compare 3-type high performance concrete of normal high strength concrete of $400kgf/cm^2$ strength through the static loading test and fatigue test. And test specimen is united floor slab and pavement for the durability of bridge.

  • The structural strength assessment of a carbody was performed using F.E. analysis and static test to verify the structural safety of newly manufactured carbody of a freight car. The freight car for the transportation of cold-rolled coils in steel making company was designed with SS400 steel for underframe and SM490A steel for bracket. Prior to the evaluation of structural strength, commercial finite element method(FEM) software was used for the stress and structural analyses on stress distribution in a carbody of freight car. The strain gages were attached on the carbody based on the FEM results. The actual vertical loading test and horizontal compression loading test were conducted, and the stress and displacement were obtained. Finally, the structural strength of carbody was evaluated by using a engineering techniques.

  • In order to analyse the strength problems for an unsaturated soil, it is required to examine closely the characteristics of the parameters of shear strength which was changed with the metric suction and void ratio. To this ends, a triaxial compression test was conducted on the three samples-granular soil, cohesive soil and silty soil. The specimen was made by pressing the static pressure on the mold filled soil and was controled the void ratio with the different compaction ratio. And the test was performed by using the modified apparatus of the triaxial compression tester. The range of matric suction was 0-90 kPa.The measured results for the deviator stress and parameters of shear strength were analysed with the void ratio and the compaction ratio, and they were examined closely the characteristics of the strength for an unsaturated soil.
