  • Methods of fuzzy C-means have been used to characterize geotechnical information from static cone penetration data. As contrary with traditional classification methods such as Robertson classification chart, the FCM expresses classes not conclusiveness but fuzzy. The results show that the FCM is useful to characterize ground information that can not be easily found by using normal classification chart. But optimal number of classes may not be easily defined. So, the optimal number of classes should be determined considering not only technical measures but engineering aspects.

  • In ad hoc network, the scarce energy management of the mobile devices has become a critical issue in order to extend the network lifetime. Current research activity for the Minimum Energy Multicast (MEM) problem has been focused on devising efficient centralized greedy algorithms for static ad hoc networks. In this paper, we consider mobile ad hoc networks(MANETs) that could provide the reliable monitoring and control of a variety of environments for remote place. Mobility of MANET would require the topology change frequently compared with a static network. To improve the routing protocol in MANET, energy efficient routing protocol would be required as well as considering the mobility would be needed. In this paper, we propose a new method, the CACH(Context-aware Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm, a hybrid and clustering-based protocol that could analyze the link cost from a source node to a destination node. The proposed analysis could help in defining the optimum depth of hierarchy architecture CACH utilize. The proposed CACH could use localized condition to enable adaptation and robustness for dynamic network topology protocol and this provide that our hierarchy to be resilient. As a result, our simulation results would show that CACH could find energy efficient depth of hierarchy of a cluster.

  • Image and video dehazing is a popular topic in the field of computer vision and digital image processing. A fast, optimized dehazing algorithm was recently proposed that enhances contrast and reduces flickering artifacts in a dehazed video sequence by minimizing a cost function that makes transmission values spatially and temporally coherent. However, its fixed-size block partitioning leads to block effects. The temporal cost function also suffers from the temporal non-coherence of newly appearing objects in a scene. Further, the weak edges in a hazy image are not addressed. Hence, a video dehazing algorithm based on well designed spectral clustering is proposed. To avoid block artifacts, the spectral clustering is customized to segment static scenes to ensure the same target has the same transmission value. Assuming that edge images dehazed with optimized transmission values have richer detail than before restoration, an edge intensity function is added to the spatial consistency cost model. Atmospheric light is estimated using a modified quadtree search. Different temporal transmission models are established for newly appearing objects, static backgrounds, and moving objects. The experimental results demonstrate that the new method provides higher dehazing quality and lower time complexity than the previous technique.

  • WSN based on wireless sensor nodes, Sensor nodes can not be reassigned and recharged if they once placed. Each sensor node comes into being involved to a communication network with its limited energy. But the existing proposed clustering techniques, being applied to WSN environment with irregular dispersion of sensor nodes, have the network reliability issues which bring about a communication interruption with the local node feature of unbalanced distribution in WSN. Therefore, the communications participation of the sensor nodes in the suggested algorithm is extended by 25% as the sensor field divided in the light of the non-uniformed distribution of sensor nodes and a static or a dynamic clustering algorithm adopted according to its partition of sensor node density in WSN. And the entire network life cycle was extended by 14% to ensure the reliability of the network.

  • A terminal-based dynamic clustering algorithm is proposed in a multi-cell scenario, where the user could select the cooperative BSs from the predetermined static base stations (BSs) set based on dynamic channel condition. First, the user transmission rate is derived based on linear precoding and per-cell feedback scheme. Then, the dynamic clustering algorithm can be implemented based on two criteria: (a) the transmission rate should meet the user requirement for quality of service (QoS); (b) the rate increment exceeds the predetermined constant threshold. By adopting random vector quantization (RVQ), the optimized number of cooperative BSs and the corresponding channel conditions are presented respectively. Numerical results are given and show that the performance of the proposed method can improve the system resources utilization effectively.

The process consists of five steps: the preliminary, basic clustering & inclusion, refinement, decision and integration. In the preliminary step, FTV(Function, Type, Variable) graph for object extraction is created, divided and clustered. In the clustering & inclusion step, multiple graphs for static object candidate groups are generated. In the refinement step, each graph is refined to determine dynamic object candidate groups. In the decision step, the best candidate group is determined based on the highest similarity to class group modeled from domain engineering. In the final step, the best group is integrated with the domain model. The paper presents a new clustering method based on static clustering steps, possible object candidate grouping cases based on abstraction concept, a new refinement algorithm, a similarity algorithm for multiple n object and m classes, etc. This process provides reengineering experts an comprehensive and integrated environment to select the best or optimal object candidates.

  • In recent years, researchers have been attracted to clustering methods to improve communication and data transmission in a network. Compared with traditional wireless networks, wireless sensor networks are energy constrained and have lower data rates. The concept of implementing a clustering algorithm in an existing project on gateway relocation is being explored here. Low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) is applied to an existing study on relocating a gateway. The study is further improved by moving the gateway to a specific cluster based on the number or significance of the events detected. The protocol is improved so that each cluster head can communicate with a mobile gateway. The cluster heads are the only nodes that can communicate with the mobile gateway when it (the mobile gateway) is out of the cluster nodes' transmission range. Once the gateway is in range, the nodes will begin their transmission of real-time data. This alleviates the load of the nodes that would be located closest to the gateway if it were static.

  • This study evaluated the applicability of the static hierarchic clustering model to clustering query results in OPAC. Two clustering methods(Between Average Linkage(BAL) and Complete Linkage(CL)) and two similarity coefficients(Dice and Jaccard) were tested on the query results retrieved from 16 title-based keyword searchings. The precision of optimal dusters was improved more than 100% compared with title-word searching. There was no difference between similarity coefficients but clustering methods in optimal cluster effectiveness. CL method is better in precision ratio but BAL is better in recall ratio at the optimal top-level and bottom-level clusters. However the differences are not significant except higher recall ratio of BAL at the top-level duster. Small number of clusters and long chain of hierarchy for optimal cluster resulted from BAL could not be desirable and efficient.
