This paper deals with an estimation method far sideslip angle by using an unknown input observation technique in 4WS passenger car systems. Firstly, a 4WS vehicle model with 3DOP is derived under the constant velocity and same tyre's properties. The induced model is transformed into the linear state space model with considering the external disturbance. Secondly, an unknown input observer is introduced and its property which estimating the states of system without any disturbance information is shown. Lastly, the estimated sideslip angle of the 4WS system is verified through numerical simulation.
A sensorless drive of induction motor has several advantages; low cost and mechanical simplicity. This paper investigates a field-oriented control method without speed and flux sensors. The control strategy is to design an adaptive state observer for flux estimation and to estimate the rotor speed from the estimated rotor flux and stator current. The entire control algorithm including space vector PWM is implemented by software of the digital signal processor TMS320C31. The experimental results indicate good speed responses.

This paper presents a servo design method for high track-density hard disk drives, in which the plant time delay, mainly due to the processor computation time, is taken into account. The key idea behind the proposed design method is to incorporate the delay model into the output equation of the state-space representation for the plant model; thereby, the delay is accounted for by a standard state observer in a natural manner, with simplified state equations as compared to those for conventional methods. The results from practical application confirm that the proposed method is quite effective in realizing a high-bandwidth servo system in hard disk drives.
This paper proposes a novel current control method of three-phase PWM rectifiers without phase current sensors. The features of this method are to reconstruct phase currents by using switching pattern of space vector modulation and to estimate phase currents by a predictive state observer for practical applications. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed system is nearly the same as that of sensor-based system.
Explicit state-space formulate for an H$_{.inf}$ based two-degrees-of-freedom robust controller are derived in discrete-time. The controller provides robust stability against coprime factor uncertainty, and a degree of robust performance in the sense of making the closed-loop system match a prespecified reference model. It is shown that the controller consists of a plant observer, the chosen reference model, and a generalized state feedback law associated with the plant and model states. The controller structure is shown to be relatively simple and thus may reduce the computational load on the digital control processor.

This paper presents a robust control of a smart flexible structure featured by a piezofilm actuator characterizing its light weght and quick response time. A mathematical governing equation for the proposed structure is derived by employing Hamilton's principle and a state space control model is subsequentrly obtained through modal analysis. Uncertain system parameters such as frequency variation are included in the control model. A sliding mode control theroy thich has inherent robustness to systme uncertainties is adopted to design a tracking controller for the peizofilm actuator. Using the output informaiton from the tip deflection sensor, a full-order observer is constructed ot estimate state variables for the system. Tracking performances for desired trajectories of sinusoidal amd step functions are evaluated by undertaking both simulation and experimental works.
This paper presents a pseudo-sensor-output-feedback(PSOF) method for the vibration suppression of the flexible piezoelectric smart structures. This method reduces the modeling errors using pseudo sensors in the output equation formulation. It also reduces computation time in practice. since the output equation does not need the state observer required in the state space equation. Experimental works are performed for the validation of theoretical predictions with the piezoelectric sensor and actuator bonded on the cantilever beam. An algorithm based on the sliding mode control theory is developed and analyzed for the robustness to the modeling errors and parameter uncertainties. This study also discusses the characteristics of the active and semi-active systems.

As high precision industries such as semiconductor, TFT-LCD manufacturing and MEMS continue to grow, the demand for higher DOF precision stages has been increasing. In general, the stages should accommodate a prescribed range of payloads in order to position various precision manufacturing/inspection instruments. Therefore a nonlinear controller using sliding motion is developed, which bears mass perturbation and makes the upper plate of the stage move in 6 DOF. For the application of the nonlinear control, an observer is also developed based on expected noise covariance. To eliminate the steady state error of step response, integral terms are inserted into the state-space model. The linear term of the controller is designed using optimization scheme in which parameters can be weighted according to their physical significance, whereas the nonlinear term of the controller is designed using trial and error method. A comprehensive simulation study proves that the designed controller is robust against mass perturbation and completely eliminates steady state errors.

In this paper, optimal tuning of a cross-coupled controller linked with the feedforward controller and the disturbance observer is studied to improve contouring and tracking accuracy as well as robustness against disturbance. Previously developed integrated design and optimal tuning methods are applied for developing the robust tuning method. Strict mathematical modeling of the multivariable system is formulated as a state-space equation. Identification processes of the servomechanism are conducted for mechanical servo models. An optimal tuning problem to minimize both the contour error and settling time is formulated as a nonlinear constrained optimization problem including the relevant controller parameters of the servo control system. Constraints such as relative stability, robust stability and overshoot, etc. are considered for the optimization. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed optimal tuning procedure, linear and circular motion experiments are performed on the xy-table. Experimental results confirm the control performance and robustness despite the variation of parameters of the mechanical subsystems.
