  • This paper presents a feasibility study of a fresh air load reduction system by using an underground double floor space The system was introduced into a real building and was examined by the field measurement Judging from the measurements during three years(1999~2001), the state of the system operation was very stable through this period and it was clear that the system contributes to reduction of energy consumption for air-conditioning. Futhermore, a simulation model used the simple heat diffusion equation Was developed to simulate its thermal characteristics and performances The simulations resulted m air temperature in good agreement with the measurements. Also, from the result of numerical analysis, It is clear that the amount of heat supply by using this system is more than the amount of energy loss to the room above it. Therefore, it is concluded that this systems is very useful and the proposed numerical model can be used for the prediction of system thermal performance.

Modal Analysis of a Building with Viscoelastic Dampers (점탄성 감쇠기를 설치한 건물의 모드해석)

  • The added viscoelastic dampers increase damping and stiffness of buildings and results in so called non-classical or non-proportional damping problem. In this system the eigenvectors of the undamped system may not diagonalize the damping matrix, and the system is generally analyzed by converting the equation of motion into a 2n first order state-space form. As this approach is complex and time-consuming compared to the classically damped problem, the system is often analyzed by neglecting the off-diagonal terms in the damping matrix. In this paper the theoretical background of the approximate approach is studied, and the vibration characteristics of a three-story shear building with a viscoelastic damper are investigated using the exact and approximate method. It is found that the approximate method may produce good result when the additional damping is small, but as the damping increases the error also increase.

  • In this study, a numerical model was established and applied to simulate the steady-state groundwater and heat flow in an isotropic, heterogeneous, three dimensional aquifer system with uniform thermal properties and no change of state. This model was developed as an aid in screening large groundwater-flow systems as prospects for underground waste storage. Driving forces on the system are external hydrologic conditions of recharge from precipitation and fixed hydraulic head boundaries. Heat flux includes geothermal heat-flow, conduction to the land surface, advection from recharge, and advection to or from fixed-head boundaries. The model uses an iterative procedure that alternately solves the groundwater-flow and heat-flow equations, updating advective flux after solution of the groundwater-flow equation, and updating hydraulic conductivity after solution of the heat-flow equation. Dierect solution is used for each equation. Travel time is determined by particle tracking through the modeled space. Velocities within blocks are linear interpolations of velocities at block faces. Applying this model to the groundwater-flow system located in Jigyung-ri. Songla-myun, Youngil-gun. Kyungsangbuk-do, the groundwater-flow system including distribution of head, temperature and travel time and flow line, is analyzed.

  • This paper copes with control design for unmanned aerial vehicle transportation system. Moving pendulum dynamics of slung-load system is derived using two methods: Udwadia-Kalaba equation and Newtonian approach. PID controller is applied to Udwadia-Kalaba equation model for structural consistency and linear quadratic Gaussian / Loop Transfer Recovery (LQG/LTR) technique is employed for Newtonian model with minimal state-space realization. Characteristics of PID and LQG/LTR controller are compared, and two controllers are combined to compensate the drawbacks of each other. Numerical simulation is set for two cases and conducted to evaluate performance of designed controllers. The result proves that combination of LQG/LTR and PID control performs stable and robust.

  • Droplet vaporization at various ambient pressures is studied numerically by formulating one dimensional evaporation model in the mixture of hydrocarbon fuel and air. The ambient pressure ranged from atmospheric conditions to the supercritical conditions. The modified Soave-Redlich-Kwong state equation is used to account for the real gas effects in the high pressure condition. Non-ideal thermodynamic and transport properties at near critical and supercritical conditions are considered. Some computational results are compared with Sato's experimental data for the validation of calculations. The comparison between predictions and experiments showed quite a good agreement. The droplet lifetime increases with increasing pressure at temperature lower than the critical temperature, however, it decreases with increasing pressure at temperature higher than the critical temperature. The solubility of nitrogen can not be neglected in the high pressure and it becomes higher as the temperature and the pressure go up.

  • This paper presents active vibration control using a hybrid mount which consists of rubber element and the piezostack actuator. After identifying stiffness and damping properties of the rubber element and piezoelectric elements, a mechanical model of the hybrid mount is established. The mount model is then incorporated with the vibration system, and the governing equation of motion is obtained in a state space. A sliding mode controller and LQG controller are designed in order to actively attenuate the vibration of the system subjected to high frequency and small magnitude excitations. Control responses such as acceleration and force transmission through the hybrid mount are evaluated by computer simulation.

After identifying stiffness, damping properties of the elastic rubber and electromagnetic element, a mechanical model of the hybrid mount is established. The mount model is then incorporated into the 1-DOF system and the governing equation of motion is obtained in a state space. A sliding mode controller is designed in order to actively attenuate the vibration of the system control responses such as acceleration and transmitted force of the 1 -DOF system are presented in time domain.

  • This paper presents an active vibration control of a dynamic system using hybrid mount which consists of elastic rubber-piezostack actuator and elastic rubber-electromagnetic actuator, respectively. After identifying stiffness, damping properties of the elastic rubber, PZT actuator and electromagnetic element, a mathematical model of the hybrid mount is established. The mount model is then incorporated into the dynamic system and the governing equation of motion is obtained in a state space. A sliding mode controller is designed in order to actively attenuate the vibration of the system. Control responses such as acceleration and transmitted force of the dynamic system are experimentally evaluated and presented in time and frequency domains.
