In this paper, we proposed a low power algorithm using state transition ready method. The proposed algorithm defined a sleep state, a idle state and a run state for the task. A state transition occurring at the time due to the delay time created in order to reduce the power consumption state in the middle of each inserted into the ready state. The ready state considering a power consumption and a delay time in state transition. A scheduling step of performing the steps in excess of the increasing problems have the delay time is long. The power consumption increased for the operation step increase. A state transition from a sleep state with the longest delay time in operating state occurs when the state is switched by the time delay caused by the increase in operating time reduces the overall power consumption reduced. Experiments [6] were compared with the results of the power consumption. The experimental results [6] is reduced power consumption than the efficiency of the algorithm has been demonstrated.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between the cognitive functions, health conditions, activities of daily living, depression and sleep states among the elderly at care facilities. The subjects include 204 elderly people aged 65. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression. The findings show that the cognitive functions of the elderly at care facilities are related to their engagement in regular exercise, duration of residency, grade of care, lack of physical freedom, listening ability, state of teeth, urinary incontinence, activities of daily living, and state of sleep. Their cognitive functions had positive correlations with activities of daily living and negative correlations with state of sleep. Their cognitive impairment was significantly influenced by their engagement in regular exercise, duration of residency, grade of care, listening ability, ADL, IAD dependency, and sleep disorder. In short, the cognitive functions of the elderly at care facilities are highly related to their health conditions as perceived and felt by them. It is thus required to develop, apply, and consistently assess and manage cognitive rehabilitation training programs to provide interventions for the factors that influence their cognitive impairment.
This study investigated the effects of Lavandula angustifolia (L. angustifolia) aroma on the brain electrical activity evaluated by electroencephalogram (EEG) in female adults with sleep disorders. The subjects were 28 healthy female adults and their sleep disorders were classified by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. EEG electrodes were attached at the frontal (F3, F4), temporal (T3, T4), occipital (O1, O2), parietal (P3, P4), reference, and ground regions according to the International 10-20 system. Subjects were exposed to the L. angustifolia aroma for 3 min. Results showed that L. angustifolia aroma decreased the occipital and parietal alpha powers, and increased the frontal theta power and occipital beta power in subjects with good sleep quality. On the other hand, L. angustifolia aroma increased the theta power in the all cranial regions after aroma treatment in subjects with poor sleep quality. In conclusion, L. angustifolia aroma diminishes a state of wakefulness in the brain and helps individuals to fall asleep. Therefore, L. angustifolia aroma may have beneficial effect for female adults with sleep disorders.

Efficient power management plays a crucial role to strengthen competitiveness in the market of portable mobile commodities. This paper presents a proactive power management technique, called by Energy-Aware Scheduling policY (EASY), to exploit the sleep time information of running applications. Different from previous power management approaches focusing on power conservation in standby mode, the proposed scheme characterizes each application program's operational characteristic in active mode by observing how long the task stays in sleep state of CPU scheduler. Based on the measured sleep time, the proposed EASY speculates an adequate CPU clock frequency according to the current CPU workload and scales the frequency directly to the predicted one. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme reduces the power consumption by 10-30% on average compared to traditional DPM approach, with a minimal impact on the performance overhead.

In this paper we collect data concerning sleep environments in a bedroom and analyze the relationship between the collected condition data and sleep. In addition, this paper detects scene changes from the subjects in a sleeping state and presents the physical conditions, reactions during sleep, and physical sensations and stimuli. To detect scene changes in image sequences, we used color histogram for the difference between the preceding frame and the current frame. In addition, to extract the tossing and turning for different situations, the subjects were instructed to enter the level of fatigue, the level of drinking, and the level of stomach emptiness.

Background : The objective of this study was to understand sleep-related problems, and to determine whether the sleep questionnaires is a clinically useful method in patients who need polysomnography. Methods : Subjects were patients who performed polysomnography and who asked to answer a sleep questionnaires at the Sleep Disorders Clinic of St. Paul's Hospital, Catholic University of Korea. Baseline characteristics, past medical illness, behaviors during sleep-wake cycle, snoring, sleep-disordered breathing and symptoms of daytime sleepiness were analyzed to compare with data of polysomnography. Results : The study population included 1081 patients(849 men, 232 female), and their mean age was $44.2{\pm}12.8years$. Among these patients, 38.9% had an apnea-hypopnea index(AHI)<5, 27.9% had $5{\leq}AHI<20$, 13.2% had $20{\leq}AHI<40$, and 20.0% had $40{\leq}AHI$. The main problems for visiting our clinic were snoring(91.7%), sleep apnea(74.5%), excessive daytime sleepiness(8.0%), insomnia(4.3%), bruxism(1.1%) and attention deficit(0.5%). The mean value of frequency of interruptions of sleep was 1.6 and the most common reason was urination(46.3%). Epworth Sleepiness Scale(ESS) had a weak correlation with AHI(r=0.209, p<0.01). When we performed analysis of sleep questionnaires, there were significant differences in the mean values of AHI according to the severity of symptoms including snoring, daytime sleepiness, taking a nap and arousal state after wake(p<0.05). Conclusion : On the basis of statistical analysis of sleep questionnaires, the severity of subjective symptoms such as ESS, snoring, daytime sleepiness and arousal state after wake correlated with the AHI significantly. Therefore the sleep questionnaires can be useful instruments for prediction of the severity of sleep disorder, especially sleep-disordered breathing.
This paper proposes an asynchronous circuit design methodology using a new Single Gate Sleep Convention Logic (SG-SCL) with advantages such as low area overhead, low power consumption compared with the conventional null convention logic (NCL) methodologies. The delay-insensitive NCL asynchronous circuits consist of dual-rail structures using {DATA0, DATA1, NULL} encoding which carry a significant area overhead by comparison with single-rail structures. The area overhead can lead to high power consumption. In this paper, the proposed single gate SCL deploys a power gating structure for a new {DATA, SLEEP} encoding to achieve low area overhead and low power consumption maintaining high performance during DATA cycle. In this paper, the proposed methodology has been evaluated by a liquid state machine (LSM) for pattern and digit recognition using FPGA and a 0.18 ㎛ CMOS technology with a supply voltage of 1.8 V. the LSM is a neural network (NN) algorithm similar to a spiking neural network (SNN). The experimental results show that the proposed SG-SCL LSM reduced power consumption by 10% compared to the conventional LSM.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate factors related to depression of elderly women in a Metropolitan city. Methods: Subjects included 118 elderly women older than 65 years of age. Structured questionnaires were used for data collection, and descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed for data analysis. Results: A significant difference in depression was observed according to number of chronic diseases(F=4.963, p=.001). Significant factors influencing depression included number of chronic diseases (${\beta}$=.265, p<.01), cognitive function (${\beta}$=.290, p<.01), quality of sleep(${\beta}$=.212, p<.01), and nutritional state (${\beta}$=.161, p<.05). These factors explained 54.2% of the variance. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest the need for development of nursing strategies to decrease the incidence of depression in elderly women.
Introduction: There has been an increasing interest in the relationship between sleep and suicidality. In addition, suicidal patients habitually report their sleep problems. Although sleep-related complaints and electroencephalographic changes are generally encountered in psychiatric disorders, sleep complaints such as insomnia, hypersomnia and nightmares are more common in suicidal patients. In current study, we aimed at investigating the relationship between self-reported sleep duration and suicidality in general population. Methods: One thousand general population (male:female=500:500, mean age=$39.6{\pm}11.6$ years, ranged age=20-77 years) completed Center for Epidemiologic Study-Depression (CES-D), Beck Suicide Intent scale (BSI), Spielberger State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS), Morningness-Eveningness Scale (MES) and brief questionnaire of sleep habits. Results: After controlling for age and sex, score of BSI was correlated positively with the score of CES-D, STAXI and BIS on partial correlation analysis ($r_p$=0.251; p<0.001, $r_p$=0.352; p<0.001, and $r_p$=0.175; p<0.001, respectively). In addition, score of BSI was inversely correlated with the score of MES (rp=-0.066; p=0.037). However, score of BSI showed no significant correlation with sleep duration. However, regression analysis revealed that short (<6 hrs) or long (>10 hrs) sleep duration, the family history of psychiatric illness, the score of CES-D, and the score of STAXI predicted higher score of BSI significantly in total subjects (F=17.837, adjusted $R^2$=0.166; p=0.003, p=0.003, p<0.001, and p=0.003, respectively). This model was explained better in depressed subjects with 16 or higher score of CES-D (F=9.920, adjusted $R^2$=0.298). Conclusion: Current result suggested that not only short sleep duration (<6 hrs) but also long sleep duration (>10 hrs) might be related to suicidality.
