  • This paper embodies the agent based cinder monitoring system which supports PDA{Personal Digital Assistant). Monitoring system automatically manages data by using data managing agents such as a state managing agent, a location managing agent, a badness managing agent, a circumstances managing agent, etc, and uses a massive data processing agent to manage massive data. The development of agent based data monitoring system for the stable cinder reuse will be an epoch-making method to develop the process mechanized or manual-labored that widely spreads into the real-time automated process.

  • The optimal replacement problem was investigated for a multi-state deteriorated system for which the true internal state cannot be observed directly except when the system breaks down completely. The internal state was assumed to be monitored incompletely by a monitor that gives information related to the true state of the system. The problem was formulated as a partially observable Markov decision process. The optimal procedure was found to be a monotone procedure with respect to stochastic increasing ordering of the state probability vectors under some assumptions. Limiting the optimal procedure to a monotone procedure would greatly reduce the tremendous amount of calculation time required to find the optimal procedure.

  • In highly automated milling process, in-process monitoring of the malfunction is indispensable to ensure efficient cutting operation. Among many malfunctions in milling process, chatter vibration deteriorates surface finish, tool life and productivity. In this study, the monitoring system of chatter vibration for face milling process is proposed and experimentally estimated. The monitoring system employs two types of sensor such as cutting force and acceleration in sensory detection state. The RMS value and band frequency energy of the sensor signals are extracted in time domain for the input patterns of neural network to reduce time delay in signal processing state. The resultes of experimental evaluation show that the system works well over a wide range of cutting conditions.

  • Plasma processing is an essential process for pattern etching and thin film deposition in nanoscale semiconductor device fabrication. It is necessary to maintain plasma chamber in steady-state in production. In this study, we determined plasma chamber state with residual gas analysis with self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy. Residual gas monitoring of fluorocarbon plasma etching chamber was performed with self-plasma optical emission spectroscopy (SPOES) and various chemical elements was identified with a SPOES system which is composed of small inductive coupled plasma chamber for glow discharge and optical emission spectroscopy monitoring system for measuring optical emission. This work demonstrates that chamber state can be monitored with SPOES and this technique can potentially help maintenance in production lines.

  • This paper presents an electrical power monitoring system for home energy management and an automatic appliance-identification algorithm based on the electricity-usage patterns collected during the monitoring tests. This paper also discusses the results of the field tests of which the proposed system was voluntarily deployed at 13 homes. The proposed monitoring system periodically measures the amount of power consumption of each appliance with a pre-specified time interval and effectively displays the essential information provided by the monitored data which is required users to know in order to save power consumption. Regarding the field tests of the monitoring system, the households responded that the system was useful in saving electricity and especially the electricity-usage patterns per appliances. They also considered that the predicted amount of the monthly power consumption was effective. The proposed appliance-identification algorithm uses 4 patterns: Zero-Crossing Rate(ZC), Variation of On State(VO), Slope of On State(SO) and Duty Cycle(DC), which are applied over the 2 hour interval with 25% of it on state, and it yielded 82.1% of success rate in identifying 5 kinds of appliances: refrigerator, TV, electric rice-cooker, kimchi-refrigerator and washing machine.

  • This paper presents a behavioral data monitoring system based on WAP(wireless application protocol) service for the 24-hour continuous health state monitoring of the elderly and the disabled. The developed system transmits a character message to the predefined mobile cell phone through SMS service when an emergency state takes place. Simultaneously, the image captured by a CCD camera is transmitted to the server computer installed WAP service program. Then, the user of the cell phone who received he message can access the server and open the transmitted image. This system can be used for the effective health monitoring of the elderly and disabled.

  • A wrist watch type wearable cardiovascular monitoring device is proposed for continuous and convenient monitoring of the patient's cardiovascular system. For comprehensive monitoring of the patient's cardiovascular system, the concurrent electrocardiogram (ECG) and arterial pulse wave (APW) sensor front-end are fabricated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The ECG sensor frontend achieves 84.6-dB CMRR and $2.3-{\mu}Vrms$-input referred noise with $30-{\mu}W$ power consumption. The APW sensor front-end achieves $3.2-V/{\Omega}$ sensitivity with accurate bio-impedance measurement lesser than 1% error, consuming only $984-{\mu}W$. The ECG and APW sensor front-end is combined with power management unit, micro controller unit (MCU), display and Bluetooth transceiver so that concurrently measured ECG and APW can be transmitted into smartphone, showing patient's cardiovascular state in real time. In order to verify operation of the cardiovascular monitoring system, cardiovascular indicator is extracted from the healthy volunteer. As a result, 5.74 m/second-pulse wave velocity (PWV), 79.1 beats/minute-heart rate (HR) and positive slope of b-d peak-accelerated arterial pulse wave (AAPW) are achieved, showing the volunteer's healthy cardiovascular state.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fault diagnosis monitoring system using gyro sensor-based angular velocity calculation for blades of the wind turbine system. First, the proposed system generates the angular velocity dataset for the rotation speed of the normal blade. Using the dataset, we estimate and evaluate the state of blades for the wind turbine by comparing the current state with the pre-calculated normal state. In the experimental results, the angular velocity of the normal state was higher than $360^{\circ}/s$ while that of the damaged blades was lower than $360^{\circ}/s$ and the standard deviation of the angular velocity was significantly increased.

  • This paper proposes the effective monitoring method for marine engine system, which is implemented based upon Controller Area Network (CAN). As the marine engine monitoring system requires various kind of information, a lot of sensor nodes are distributed to several places. The CAN supports huge numbers of message IDs for the sensor nodes and provides a stable communication channel in a wide area such as a 12,000 TEU container ship. Since the CAN is priority-based communication system, some of hard real-time messages like alarm messages which are time-critical to the operation of the vessel cannot be communicated within the dead-time. Therefore it is desirable to distinguish the bandwidth of the CAN for static state messages and transition-state messages not to be harmful to the engine operations. Using the features of message arbitration ability of the CAN, it is proposed in this paper that the bandwidth allocation is dynamically adjusted to cope with the increment of input signal to improve the performance of monitoring system. Effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme have been demonstrated through real experiments.

  • Automation control and the data for control of industrial equipment for the diagnosis and prediction is a key to success in the 4th industrial revolution. It increases process efficiency and productivity through data collection, realtime monitoring, and the data analysis. However, university and research environment are still suffering from logging the data in manual way, and we occasionally loss the equipment data logging due to the lack of automatic data logging system. State variable presents the current condition of the equipment operation which is closely related to process result, and it is valuable to monitor and analyze the data for the equipment health monitoring. In this paper, we demonstrate the collection of equipment state variable data via programmable logic controller (PLC) and the visualization of the collected data over the Web access supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Test vehicle for the implementation of the suggested SCADA system is a relay switched physical vapor deposition system in the university environment.
