  • A statistical procedure is developed to estimate the relative difference between two parameters each obtained from either true model or approximate model. Double sample procedure is applied to find the additional number of simulation runs satisfying the preassigned absolute precision of the confidence interval. Two types of parameters, mean and standard deviation, are considered as the performance measures and tried to show the validity of the model by examining both queues and inventory systems. In each system it is assumed that there are three distinct means and their own standard deviations and they form the simultaneous confidence intervals but with control in the sense that the absolute precision for each confidence interval is bounded on the limits with preassigned confidence level. The results of this study may contribute to some situations, for instance, first, we need a statistical method to compare the effectiveness between two alternatives, second, we find the adquate number of replications with any level of absolute precision to avoid the unrealistic cost of running simulation models, third, we are interested in analyzing the standard deviation of the output measure, ..., etc.

  • In this paper we develop a now procedure to control stepsize for linear multistep methods applied to semi-explicit index 1 differential-algebraic equations. in contrast to the standard approach the error control mechanism presented here is based on monitoring and contolling both the local and global errors of multistep formulas. As a result such methods with the local-global stepsize control solve differential-algebraic equation with any prescribed accuracy (up to round-off errors). For implicit multistep methods we give the minimum number of both full and modified Newton iterations allowing the iterative approxima-tions to be correctly used in the procedure of the local-global stepsize control. We also discuss validity of simple iterations for high accuracy solving differential-algebraic equations. Numerical tests support the the-oretical results of the paper.

  • In this paper we develop a new procedure to control stepsize for Runge- Kutta methods applied to both ordinary differential equations and semi-explicit index 1 differential-algebraic equation In contrast to the standard approach, the error control mechanism presented here is based on monitoring and controlling both the local and global errors of Runge- Kutta formulas. • In various applications of queueing systems, admission control is often employed. It is known that the threshold-type of admission control is optimal in many practical applications despite its simplicity. However, determining the optimal threshold value is hard in general, because analytical expressions for the stationary queue length distributions are not easily available in most queueing systems. In this paper, to quickly determine the optimal threshold value under threshold-type admission control, we develop a concurrent simulation technique, which can save large amount of CPU time required in simulation, compared to the standard simulation procedure.

  • Ridge expansion osteotomy(REO) procedure is used to widen the narrow ridge in locations that are too thin to permit the use of standard implant drills. The objective of this technique is to maintain, if possible, all of the existing maxillary bone by pushing the bone aside with minimal trauma. The author has used tis procedure on five patients who had narrow ridge in their soft maxillary bone. Fifteen implants were placed in sites needing ridge expansion using REO. The satisfactory results were obtained. The REO procedure is thought to be a safer and more conservative method of widening a narrow ridge. And this procedure is heatless, offers excellent tactile sensitivity, control, visibility, and takes advantage of available bone.

  • This research considers to propose the control charts using median for the location parameter. In order to decide the control limits, we apply several bootstrap methods through the approach obtaining the confidence interval except the standard bootstrap method. Then we illustrate our procedure using an example and compare the performance among the various bootstrap methods by obtaining the length between control limits through the simulation study. The standard bootstrap may be apt to yield shortest length while the bootstrap-t method, the longest one. Finally we comment briefly about some specific features as concluding remarks.

  • Objectives This study was conducted to suggest a standard operating procedure (SOP) in order to improve the reliability of tongue-image analysis system. Methods An affecting-factors list was made, which may affect the diagnostic parameters of the tongue-image analysis system. They were sub-classified into two groups: controllable and uncontrollable. Only the controllable factors, which could affect the results and easily set-up, were included into the SOP draft. Affecting factors control experiment was performed to investigate the effects of controllable factors, whose influence on diagnostic parameters of the tongue-image analysis system is ambiguous: rehearsal for tongue extrusion; alignment of camera axis; and presentation of a guideline. Three subjects volunteered for this experiment. Each of three variables was implemented twice in a random order by two operators on the subjects. Finally, 96 tongue images obtained in the aggregate. The diagnostic parameter set as a primary outcome in this experiment was the percentage of tongue coating. Results All of the control variables were not significant in both operators; however, the presentation of a guideline was relatively more affect than two other variables. Interaction effects among the variables were also insignificant. Therefore, the presentation of a guideline was included in the final SOP and the other variables were not included. Conclusions We suggested the SOP which could be used for both experimenter and subject. Moreover, Each of the SOPs applied to various types of tongue-image analysis system should be developed in order to improve the reliability.

  • This paper considers the problem of robust stabilization and disturbance attenuation for a class of uncertain singularly perturbed systems with norm-bounded nonlinear uncertainties. It is shown that the state feedback gain matrices can be determined to guarantee the stability of the closed-loop system for all $\varepsilon$$\in$(0, $\infty$). Based on this key result and some standard Riccati inequality approaches for robust control of singularly perturbed systems, a constructive design procedure is developed.
