  • In developing a multiple regression relationship, independent variables are frequently measured with error. For these situations the problem of estimating unknown parameters has been extensively discussed in the literature while little attention has been given to the prediction problem. In this paper a criterion is developed for assessing the severeness of measurement errors in each independent variable on the predicted values. Using the developed criterion we can present a guideline as to which measurement error should be controlled for a more accurate prediction. Proposed methods are illustrated with a standard data system in work measurement.

  • Given the specific mean shift outlier model, the standard approaches to obtaining test statistics for outliers are discussed. Accuracy of outlier tests is investigated using subset curvatures. These subset curvatures appear to be reliable indicators of the adequacy of the linearization based test. Also, we consider obtaining graphical summaries of uncertainty in estimating parameters through confidence curves. The results are applied to the problem of assessing the accuracy of outlier tests.

  • This paper treats the problem of estimating the longitudinal velocity of a braking vehicle using measurements from an accelerometer and wheel speed data from standard anti-lock braking wheel speed sensors. We develop and experimentally test three velocity estimation algorithms of increasing complexity. The algorithm that works the best gives peak errors of less than 3 percent even when the accelerometer signal is significantly biased.

  • Inference for discrete event simulations usually relies on either independent replications or, if each simulation run is expensive, the method of batch means applied to a single replications. We present a new method, threshold bootstrap, which equals or exceeds the performance of independent replications or batch means. The method works by resampling runs of data created when a stationary time series crosses a threshold level, such as the sample mean of series. Computational results show that the threshold bootstrap matches or exceeds the performance of these alternative methods in estimating the standard deviation of the sample mean and producing valid confidence intervals.

  • This paper presents some proposed methods for discontinuum analysis with rock discontinuities data acquisited in tunnel design stage. The limit equilibrium method for rock block sliding and falling proposed in this paper can consider the tunnel excavation and support stage, and, to the extent, the standard deviations and means of joint set orientation. Simple Distinct Elemet modelling methods are recommended in estimating the stability of tunnels in jointed rock masses. Because, the simple models are likely to show more consistent and clear than very complex model with finite joint length and joint deviation parameters.

  • A resolution enhancement method for estimating the direction-of-arrival (DOA) of signals is presented. The proposed method is by virtually expanding a real array into virtual arrays and then averaging the spatial spectrum of the virtual arrays, each of which has a different aperture size. Superior DOA resolutions are shown in comparison with the standard algorithm, MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC), for incoherent signals incident on a uniform circular array.

  • The main objectives of this dissertation is to propose a forth generation index C for the case where the target value T is not equal to the midpoint of the specification limits (i.e. asymmetric tolerances), and show that this index is more sensitive compared to the standard PCI's in detacting small shifts of the process mean from the target value. In conclusion, in this dissertation , a new methods for estimating a measure of process capability for non-normally distributed variable data is proposed using the percentage nonconforming.

  • Recently, the non-vibration mass excavation method is used on sewage pipes and road construction sites in Jeju. However, a construction cost estimation based on the unit quantity does not provide a proper unit price. In this study, a comparison of the productivity of the standard quantity-per-unit costing method and the one of the work crew combination method was made based on the site monitoring of the non-vibration mass excavation method that is used in construction sites near Jeju. For this, data of 35 sites were collected: a regression equation was derived from the 30 data, and verification was carried out through the remaining 5 data. The analysis concluded that a day's workload is $16.43m^3$. In addition, a combination of the equipment considering the site conditions and the amount of labor, which varies with the number of work crew was obtained in order to estimate the construction cost of the work crew combination method. The construction cost was calculated based on the one-day workload ($16.43m^3$) derived from the regression analysis. The cost then was analyzed and compared with the standard quantity-per-unit costing method.

  • As use of construction equipment has been increasing continuingly, the proportion of equipment expense to the total construction cost has become higher. However, there is a difference between the equipment expenses section in 'Poom-Sam' and practical data, because 'Poom-sam' does not consider non-working days due to weather conditions, legal holidays and management conditions. Therefore, 'Poom-Sam' does not present a reasonable standard for estimating construction equipment expenses. In this study, to estimate realistic construction equipment operating hours, firstly, construction equipment was classified according to work, and weather conditions, in which each work could not be executed, were established. Then, weather data on Seoul and Busan(2004${\sim}$2006) and legal holidays were analyzed to suggest annual standard operating hours. The annual standard operating hours of earthmoving & excavating, compaction, and drilling equipment was estimated to be 1,430 hours, and lifting equipment, concrete paving equipment, asphalt paving equipment, concrete equipment, and crushing & conveying equipment were estimated to be 2,124 hours, l,156hours, 1,188hours, 1,688hours, and 2,152hours respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose different construction costs based on the number of kindergarten classrooms. Literature review reorganized the space program for kindergartens. For suggesting the room sizes of each spaces, this paper collected the three types of analysis; 1) the previous researches, 2) field survey, and 3) construction drawings. Based on the results, building sizes for the individual class sizes were presented. And, this paper made a standard priced BOQ(Bill of Quantity) through analysis on the existing priced BOQ. Finally, the recommendable construction costs were proposed by applying the building sizes to the standard priced BOQ. The practitioners of school districts and government organizations can make appropriate budgets considering the building sizes.
