This research analyzes whether the curricula of the designated educational institutions which cultivate fishing vessel officers are properly coordinated to fulfill the requirements of an international convention and the designated compulsory courses. It also compares these with the educational curriculum published by the designated educational institutions in 2013 with the STCW-F Convention and IMO Model Course. The outcome of this research shows the curricula operated by the designated institutions fulfills the standard of The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. However, some of them do not meet the requirements of the STCW-F Convention and IMO Model Course. The compulsory coursework for marine technicians comprise 21 to 34 credits, compared to the 64 compulsory credits approved by maritime university. For the last five years (2008-2012), 555 out of 833 graduates have earned marine technician licenses, which accounts for 62% of the total. In preparation for ratifying the STCW-F Convention and in accordance with IMO Model Course and the minimum requirements of STCW-F Convention in the near future, improvements to the curricula are recommended.

Background Microsurgical techniques are considered standard procedures in reconstructive surgery. Although microsurgery by itself is defined as surgery aided by optical magnification, there are no guidelines for determining in which clinical situations a microscope or loupe should be used. Therefore, we conducted standardized experiments to objectively assess the impact of optical magnification in microsurgery. Methods Sixteen participants of microsurgical training courses had to complete 2 sets of experiments. Each set had to be performed with an unaided eye, surgical loupes, and a regular operating microscope. The first set of experiments included coaptation of a chicken femoral nerve, and the second set consisted of anastomosing porcine coronary arteries. Evaluation of the sutured nerves and vessels were performed by 2 experienced microsurgeons using an operating microscope. Results The 16 participants of the study completed all of the experiments. The nerve coaptation and vascular anastomoses exercises showed a direct relationship of error frequency and lower optical magnification, meaning that the highest number of microsurgical errors occurred with the unaided eye. For nerve coaptation, there was a strong relationship (P<0.05) between the number of mistakes and magnification, and this relationship was very strong (P<0.01) for vascular anastomoses. Conclusions We were able to prove that microsurgical success is directly related to optical magnification. The human eye's ability to discriminate potentially important anatomical structures is limited, which might be detrimental for clinical results. Although not legally mandatory, surgeries such as reparative surgery after hand trauma should be conducted with magnifying devices for achieving optimal patient outcomes.

Purpose : The primary objective of this study was to examine the status of continuing education, and to identify the current state and employment status of these physical therapists. Moreover, the study also aimed to provide basic data for establishing improvement measures in various continuing education programs to enhance the quality of physical therapists, thereby providing high quality service to patients and contributing to the increasing productivity of hospitals. Method : The present study analyzed the basic data obtained from KPTA regarding the 671 physical therapists throughout Korea. Questionnaires were sent by mail to from direct visits were used in the final data analysis. The questionnaire consisted of 45 questions in 3 categories: general characteristics, continuing education. Collected data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. Result : Subjects 88 (87.1%) indicated that they continuing education, showing that most had taken continuing education courses. The importance and necessity of continuing education was much higher for those with doctoral degrees than for those who graduated from college, or who possessed bachelors or master's degrees. Conclusion : A necessary follow-up study using these findings would contribute to providing a high quality medical service and to enhancing the quality of physical therapists. Moreover, systematic management of continuing education is necessary to devise comprehensive and effective measures for the development and acquisition of updated skills by health care professionals.
The purpose of this study is comparing parenting efficacy, knowledge of infant-care and sensitivity, The subjects of this study were 100 parents having 12-24 monthes old child in the city of Jeonju, Korea. Parenting efficacy was developed by Shin, Suk-Jae(1997) and consisting of 16 questions. The knowledge of infant-care was assessed using Knowledge of Child Development Inventory(KCDI) by Yoon Hyung Ju, which was modified by pedology Professor and 3 graduate school students in master's or doctorate courses. In addition, by using a tool made by Gwon, Mi-Gyeong(1998) centering on the literatures on infant cue in Barnard's NCAST program, the parents' sensitivity of infant cue is investigated. The statistical analysis of the collected data is done with SPSS 10.0, and frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t/F test and Pearson's correlation are also used. The results of this study were as following: First, mother's parenting efficacy was higher than father's. There were significant differences in parenting efficacy by eudcational level of mothers. Second, knowledge of infant-care was higher in mothers than fathers. Areas that mothers have knowledge of infant-care in the order of the lowest areas are emotional development, sociality development, physical development and cognitive development. Third, mothers reaction to infant cue is more sensitive and positive than father's. Fourth, There were positive correlations with father's parenting efficacy and knowledge of infant-care on emotional development, and paternal parenting uneasiness has negative correlations with his sociality development and emotional development.Meanwhile, There were positive correlations with mother's parenting efficacy and knowledge of infant-care on emotional development. Maternal parenting efficacy has negative correlations with her knowledge of infant-care on emotional development.
The furniture industry of the northern region of Gyeonggi Province consists of several regional complexes which was just autogenously, that is, not based on the organized and planned movements cultivated and clustered, so it stays small businesses. This fact certainly requires to find right courses for future policy direction, in order to develop the furniture industry centering in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province internationally competitive. Consequently the aim of the present study was to investigate the characteristics of the furniture industry in the northern region of Gyeonggi Province first and to present right development directions for the innovation of the structure of furniture industry according to the change of the times, i.e. to connect the industry, university and the authorities concerned well and to strengthen the technology level of furniture industry accordingly. In addition, this requires education and training of the excellent designers being able to create high added-value industrial sectors, including finding a new Korean national brand which should preoccupy the global market. Furthermore, the high-tech furniture industrial complex specialized in manufacture, distribution and marketing such as the division of work between business to business should be built and finally a Korean traditional & unique furniture culture should be created on the basis of a cultural approach of furniture industry. It would be the timing for entire business sectors related to Korea's furniture industry to establish an international standard certification like ISO, in order to upgrade the quality of furniture steadily while keeping our own tradition, and this belongs to a meaningful attempt for the high-tech lifestyles and the improvement in the quality of life of customers.
To help users who are experiencing difficulties finding the right learning course corresponding to their level of proficiency, we developed a recommendation model for personalized learning course for Intelligence Tutoring System(ITS). The Personalized Learning Course Recommendation model for ITS analyzes the learner profile and extracts the keyword by calculating the weight of each word. The similarity of vector between extracted words is measured through the cosine similarity method. Finally, the three courses of top similarity are recommended for learners. To analyze the effects of the recommendation model, we applied the recommendation model to the Women's ability development center. And mean, standard deviation, skewness, and kurtosis values of question items were calculated through the satisfaction survey. The results of the experiment showed high satisfaction levels in accuracy, novelty, self-reference and usefulness, which proved the effectiveness of the recommendation model. This study is meaningful in the sense that it suggested a learner-centered recommendation system based on machine learning, which has not been researched enough both in domestic, foreign domains.

Objectives Treatment response of bipolar disorders (BDs) to long-term mood stabilizers maintenance has not been well explored because of complicated clinical and treatment courses. This study aims at investigating long-term clinical response of BDs to lithium and/or valproate in a naturalistic setting of a tertiary-care university-affiliated hospital. Methods Subjects were 65 patients with bipolar I (BD-I) disorders who had been treated with lithium and/or valproate for more than two years at single bipolar disorder clinic. Long-term response to the best treatment based on treatment algorithms and the current clinical standard of care was retrospectively evaluated using the Alda Scale and the Clinical Global Impression Scale for use in bi-polar illness (CGI-BP). Patients were classified into full responder and partial/non responder groups based on the total score of the Alda Scale with the cut-off score generated from the frequentist mixture analysis of the authors' previous study. Results The mean duration of treatment with the index medication was 69.2 months. Baseline demographic and clinical characteristics were not different among three mood stabilizer groups (valproate, lithium, and combination groups). Twenty-one subjects were classified into full responder group (32.3%). Treatment response assessed by the Alda Scale and CGI-BP scores was not different between lithium and valproate groups. The Alda Scale scores were well correlated with the CGI-BP scores (p < 0.05). Conclusions One third of the patients showed a full response to the long-term lithium and/or valproate treatment in BD-I. The degree of response was similar between lithium and valproate groups.
Hospice and palliative care (HPC) education is an essential component of undergraduate medical education. Since February 4th, 2018, withholding and withdrawing life-sustaining treatment at the end of life (EOL) has been permitted in Korea as put forth by law, the "Act on Hospice and Palliative Care and Decisions on Life-Sustaining Treatment for Patients at the End of Life." Therefore, Korean medical schools have faced a challenge in providing comprehensive HPC education in order to better prepare medical students to be competent physicians in fulfilling their role in caring for patients at the EOL. There have been considerable variations in the evolution and organization of HPC education across Korean medical schools for the past 20 years. In 2016, all medical schools taught HPC curriculum as a separate course or integrated courses, with the most frequently taught topics including: delivering bad news, pain management, and the concept of palliative medicine. However, the content, time allocation, learning format, and clinical skills practice training of HPC education have been insufficient, inconsistent, and diverse. For this reason, we propose a HPC curriculum containing seven domains with 60 learning objectives in a course duration of over 20 hours based on the Palliative Education Assessment Tool (PEAT) as standard HPC curriculum. Furthermore, we recommend development of a national curriculum for HPC/EOL care education to be organized by the HPC board and managed under the accreditation criteria of the Korea Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation.
National Competency Standards (NCS) is a good resource for curriculum development and operations corresponding to the industrial damand. Recently, four-year colleges and universities are committed to a restructuring of the industry demand-driven training courses in order to strengthen competitiveness. However, NCS is focused to train the technical personnel in vocational training institutions(ex. College, Polytechnic University). Accordingly, NCS applications of four-year colleges and universities are hard to find. In this study, we propose a new model for NCS-based curriculum development and operations. Also, NCS was utilized to complement the existing curriculum. This paper includes the following contents; 1) NCS-based curriculum development process, 2) NCS-based course development and operation, 3) learner satisfaction analysis. Finally, this study provide practical implications to four-year colleges and universities to consider NCS application.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the conception type change and to investigate the effect of understanding on concepts in electrochemistry after general chemistry lessons. The significant differences in concept understanding of electrochemistry were shown in both groups. Statistically significant gains in both groups were as shown in distinguishing the chemical cell, in identifying the anode and cathode, and in understanding current formation and flow, while, significant achievements in understanding the role of the salt bridge, and the need for a standard half-cell were not found. Taking elective chemistry II in high school had an effect on understanding related concepts of electrochemistry in general chemistry lessons. It was shown that many freshmen had difficulties in understanding exact related concepts in several kinds after general chemistry lessons. In order to solve these problems, it is necessary to teach contents of the basic concepts in electrochemistry exactly and to hold supplementary lessons.
