A new 3D integration technology using wafer-to-wafer and chip-to-wafer stacking method was described. It was demonstrated that 3D microprocessor, 3D shared memory, 3D image processing chip and 3D artificial retina chip fabricated using 3D integration technology were successfully operated. The possibility of applying 3D image processing chip and 3D artificial retina chip to Robot's eye was investigated. The possibility of implanting 3D artificial retina chip into human eye was investigated.

A control system was developed for raw material yards of the works of a metal industry. It is devoted to the automatic operations of the raw material yards stackers, and to the improvement of the stacking method to stack granular coal uniformly. The system automatically controls the stacking operations without human intervention, and also prevents any collision between cranes, stackers, jibloaders and the level-roughing cranes.

This paper proposes a method for designing stacking warehouses of pyramid type which can be found in storage rooms for steel coils, paper rolls, and drums for oils. Formulas were derived for estimating the expected travel time of cranes and the expected time for rehandling activities. Based on the derived formulas, this study derives the cost function for determining the optimal numbers of rows, bays, tiers of stacks under the condition that the requirement for storage space is satisfied. Numerical examples were given.

With the wide application of fiber-reinforced composite material in aero-structures and mechanical parts, the design of composite joint have become a very important research area because they are often the weakest areas in composite structures. In this paper, the failure area index method to predict the strength of the mechanically fastened composite joint which has the same stacking sequence was used and evaluated. By the used failure area index method, the strength of the mechanically fastened composite joint which has the specimen of different shape and stacking sequence could be predicted within 9.96%.

In container terminals, stacking yard is the place where import and export containers are temporarily stored before being loaded onto or after being discharged from a ship. Since all the containers go through the stacking yard in their logistic flow, the productivity of the terminal critically depends on efficient operation of stacking yard, which again depends on how well the stacking locations of the incoming containers are determined. However, a good location for stacking an incoming container later can turn out to be a bad one when that container is to be fetched out of the stacking yard, especially if some rehandling is required. This means that good locations for the containers are changing over time. Therefore, in most container terminals, the so-called remarshaling is done to move the containers from bad location to good locations. Although there are many previous works on remarshaling, they all assume that the remarshaling can be done separately from the main jobs when the cranes are idle for rather a long period of time. However, in reality, cranes are hardly available for a period long enough for remarshaling. This paper proposes a crane dispatching strategy that allows remarshaling jobs to be mixed together with the main jobs whenever an opportunity is detected. Experimental results by simulation reveals that the proposed method effectively contributes to the improvement of terminal productivity.

The stator phase winding of a linear pulse motor, which is a new type of linear motor, is comprised of two phases and is structurally characterized by a stacking method in which the winding of one phase is laid on top of the winding of another phase. Such a structural characteristic induces a difference in the flux linkage resulting from the flux of each stator phase winding in the same condition. The difference in the induced flux linkage acts as a kind of thrust ripple component in terms of the generated thrust. Thus, in order to maintain consistent thrust force, a method is required to solve the problem caused by the structural singularity. Hence, in this study, we present a technique for reducing the thrust force ripple generated by the stacking of the stator phase windings of a linear pulse motor through the generation of a compensating current reference value of the current controller in order to keep the torque constant. The proposed compensating algorithm is validated by simulations and experimental results.
In this paper, we have fabricated by means of the "Micro-Block Stacking (MBS)" method the 8 pin mini DIL integrated Triplexer, which can transmit CATV and voice/data at the same time in a single fiber. Our MBS technique is a novel scheme of compact optical module packaging which secures precision positioning of the components on the optical beam path by prefixed stacks of ceramic blocks. The subassembly in which a laser diode, two receiver photodiodes, two WDM filters, and four micro lenses are integrated is only $5.40mm{\times}2.15mm{\times}1.05mm$ in size. As the Triplexer is aligned to the single mode fiber, the transmitter power of -14.5 dBm and the receiver sensitivities of 0.83 A/W, 0.73 A/W for 1550 nm, 1490 nm, respectively are obtained.
A main goal of pharmacogenomics studies is to predict individual's drug responsiveness based on high dimensional genetic variables. Due to a large number of variables, feature selection is required in order to reduce the number of variables. The selected features are used to construct a predictive model using machine learning algorithms. In the present study, we applied several hybrid feature selection methods such as combinations of logistic regression, ReliefF, TurF, random forest, and LASSO to a next generation sequencing data set of 400 epilepsy patients. We then applied the selected features to machine learning methods including random forest, gradient boosting, and support vector machine as well as a stacking ensemble method. Our results showed that the stacking model with a hybrid feature selection of random forest and ReliefF performs better than with other combinations of approaches. Based on a 5-fold cross validation partition, the mean test accuracy value of the best model was 0.727 and the mean test AUC value of the best model was 0.761. It also appeared that the stacking models outperform than single machine learning predictive models when using the same selected features.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new technology paradigm demanding one packaged system of various semiconductor and MEMS devices. Therefore, the development of electronic packaging technology with very high connectivity is essential for successful IoT applications. This paper discusses both fan-out wafer level packaging (FOWLP) and 3D stacking technologies to achieve the integrattion of heterogeneous devices for IoT. FOWLP has great advantages of high I/O density, high integration, and design flexibility, but ultra-fine pitch redistribution layer (RDL) and molding processes still remain as main challenges to resolve. 3D stacking is an emerging technology solving conventional packaging limits such as size, performance, cost, and scalability. Among various 3D stacking sequences wafer level via after bonding method will provide the highest connectivity with low cost. In addition substrates with ultra-thin thickness, ultra-fine pitch line/space, and low cost are required to improve system performance. The key substrate technologies are embedded trace, passive, and active substrates or ultra-thin coreless substrates.
The nano-scale crystallite sizes of uranium oxide powders in simulated spent fuel were measured by the neutron diffraction line broadening method in order to analyze the sintering behavior of the dry process fuel. The mixed $UO_2$ and fission product powders were dry-milled in an attritor for 30, 60, and 120 min. The diffraction patterns of the powders were obtained by using the high resolution powder diffractometer in the HANARO research reactor. Diffraction line broadening due to crystallite size was measured using various techniques such as the Stokes' deconvolution, profile fitting methods using Cauchy function, Gaussian function, and Voigt function, and the Warren-Averbach method. The non-uniform strain, stacking fault and twin probability were measured using the information from the diffraction pattern. The realistic crystallite size could be obtained after separation of the contribution from the non-uniform strain, stacking fault and twin.
