This study analyzed the effect of zoning on the distribution of pressure differentials caused by stack effect and air pressurization in a center core type of 80 story super-tall building. The results showed that maximum pressure difference more than 250 Pa can be generated by stack effect without zoning. Zoning of stairwell only resulted in 10 Pa reduction of maximum pressure difference, however, zoning of both stairwell and EV shaft especially at the same floor revealed 50 % reduction in stack effect. It was also analysed that the minimum required air flow rate occurred when the stairwell temperature reached 50 % of temperature difference between indoor and outdoor.
A PEMFC system model for FCEV was constructed and simulated numerically to examine the heat/water flow of the system and air/fuel humidification process for various operation conditions (ambient pressure /temperature/humidity, operating temperature, power load). We modeled PEMFC stack which can generate maximum electricity of about 80 kW. This stack consists of 400 unit cells and each unit cell has $250cm^2$ reacting area. Uniform current density and uniform operating voltage per each cell was assumed. The results show the flow characteristics of heat and water at each component of PEMFC system in macro-scale. The capacity shortage of the radiator occurred when the ambient was hot $(over\;40^{\circ}C)$ and power level was high (over 50 kW). In spite of some heat release by evaporation of water in stack, heat unbalance reached to 20kW approximately in such a severe operating condition. This heat unbalance could be recovered by auxiliary radiators or high speed cooling fan with additional cost. In cold environment, the capacity of radiator exceeded the net heat generation to be released, which may cause a problem to drop the operating temperature of stack. We dealt with this problem by regulating mass flow rate of coolant and radiator fan speed. Finally, water balance was not easily broken when we retrieved condensed and/or unused water.

In this study, we performed numerical analysis for 1 kWe SOFC stack of internal manifold types according to the different manifold sizes to verify the influence of the flow uniformity into each cell. To simulate the flow phenomena in the stack, the continuity and momentum conservation equations including the standard k-𝜺 turbulent model for the steady-state conditions were applied. From the calculation results, we verified that the pressure drop from inlet pipes to outlet pipes decreased to a log scale as the manifold size increased in the internal manifold types. Also, we found that the flow uniformity increased on an exponential scale as the manifold size increased. In addition, the calculation results showed that the flow uniformity gradually improved as the fuel and oxygen utilization increased.
Low temperature methane steam reforming to produce $H_2$ for fuel cells has been calculated thermodynamically considering both heat loss of the reformer and unreacted $H_2$ in fuel cell stack. According to the thermodynamic equilibrium analysis, it is possible to operate methane steam reforming at low temperatures. A scheme for the low temperature methane steam reforming to produce $H_2$ for fuel cells by burning both unconverted $CH_4$ and $H_2$ to supply the heat for steam methane reforming has been proposed. The calculated value of the heat balance temperature is strongly dependent upon the amount of unreacted $H_2$ and heat loss of the reformer. If unreacted $H_2$ increases, less methane is required because unreacted $H_2$ can be burned to supply the heat. As a consequence, it is suitable to increase the reaction temperature for getting higher $CH_4$ conversion and more $H_2$ for fuel cell stack. If heat loss increases from the reformer, it is necessary to supply more heat for the endothermic methane steam reforming reaction from burning unconverted $CH_4$, resulting in decreasing the reforming temperature. Experimentally, it has been confirmed that low temperature methane steam reforming is possible with stable activity.

The fabrication method for the main components of the polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell stack such as electrodes, membrane-electrode assemblies, and bipolar plates was established for the effective electrode area of 240 ㎠. A counter-flow type 100-cell stack was fabricated by using the above components and then a maximum power of 7.44 kW for H$_2$/O$_2$ and 5.56 kW for H$_2$/air could be obtained at 70$\^{C}$ and 1 atm. It was seen that the distribution of the OCV for unit cells in the stack was uniform but the voltage deviation increased as the load increased due to the IR drop and the electrode polarization. The stack was applied to the power source of the fuel cell/battery hybrid electric golf car. It produced about 1 kW at a room temperature operation during the test run, which occupied about 43% of the total power required by the 2.3 kW motor.

Fuel cells have the potential of providing several times higher energy storage densities than those possible using current state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries, but current energy density of fuel cell system is not better than that of lithium-ion batteries. To achieve the high energy density, volume and weight of fuel cell system need to be reduced by miniaturizing system components such as stack, fuel tank, and balance-of-plant. In this paper, the thin flexible PCB (Printed circuit board) is used as a current collector to reduce the stack volume. Two end plates are made from light weight aluminum alloy plate. The plate surface is wholly oxidized through the anodizing treatment for electrical insulation. The opening rate of cathode plate hole is optimized through unit cell performance measurement of various opening rates. The performances are measured at room temperature and ambient pressure condition without any repulsive air supply. The active area of MEA is 10.08 $cm^2$ and active area per a unit cell is 1.68 $cm^2$. The peak power density is about 210 mW/$cm^2$ and the air-breathing planar stack of 2 Wis achieved as a small volume of 18 cc.
A 3-cell stacked anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell was designed and fabricated to achieve a complete gas seal and the facile stacking of components. The stack was assembled with a unit cell with $10{\times}10cm^2$ area, and each cell was interconnected by a stainless steel 430 separator using a proprietary sealant sheet. The stack performance was examined at various gas flow rates of $H_2+3.5vol%\;H_2O$, and air at a fixed temperature of $800^{\circ}C$. No gas leakage was found from the sealing between cells and inter-connects within a measurement system in this research during a prolonged time of 500 h in operation. The test resulted in an open circuit voltage of 3.12 V, a peak power of 149 W, and a power density of $0.61W/cm^2$, while the long term durability of the power showed 19.1% degradation during the prolonged time of 500 h when tested at $800^{\circ}C$.
In this paper, we propose a new structure of ESD protection device that achieves improved electrical characteristics through structural change of LVTSCR, which is a general ESD protection device. In addition, it applies N-Stack technology for optimized design in the ESD Design Window according to the required voltage application. The N-Well area additionally inserted in the existing LVTSCR structure provides an additional ESD discharge path by electrically connecting to the anode, which improves on-resistance and temperature characteristics. In addition, the short trigger path has a lower trigger voltage than the existing LVTSCR, so it has excellent snapback characteristics. In addition, Synopsys' T-CAD Simulator was used to verify the electrical characteristics of the proposed ESD protection device.

High temperature fuel cell system, such as molten carbonate fuel cells(MCFC) and solid oxide fuel cells(SOFC), are capable of operating at MW rated power output. The power output change of high temperature fuel cell imposes the thermal and mechanical stresses on the fuel cell stack. To minimize the thermal-mechanical stresses on the stack, increases in the power output of high temperature fuel cell typically must be made at a slow rate. So, the short time interruption of high temperature fuel cell causes considerable generated energy losses. Because of the characteristic of high temperature fuel cell, we analyzed the impact of electrical fault in the fuel cell plant on other fuel cell generators in the same plant site. A various grounding configuration and voltage sag are analyzed. Finally, we presented the solution to minimize the effect of fault on other fuel cell generators.
A performance simulator for the fuel cell hybrid electric vehicle (FCHEV) is developed to evaluate the potentials of hybridization for fuel cell electric vehicle. Dynamic models of FCHEV's electric powertrain components such as fuel cell stack, battery, traction motor, DC/DC converter, etc. are obtained by modular approach using MATLAB SIMULINK. In addition, a thermodynamic model of the fuel cell is introduced using bondgraph to investigate the temperature effect on the vehicle performance. It is found from the simulation results that the hybridization of fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) provides better hydrogen fuel economy especially in the city driving owing to the braking energy recuperation and relatively high efficiency operation of the fuel cell. It is also found from the thermodynamic simulation of the FCEV that the fuel economy and acceleration performance are affected by the temperature due to the relatively low efficiency and reduced output power of the fuel cell stack at low temperature.
