  • The regenerative braked cars are being introduced in DC electric railway for energy saving. There has been a recent tendency for DC traction substation with regenerative inverter to increase in number. This is strongly related to the desire for effective utilization of electric power regenerated by DC electric cars and to the aim ensuring stable operation of regenerative braking system. The regenerative inverters DC power feed back from a generative car into AC power at a substation and supplies it to distribution lines. This paper suggest the result of characteristic analysis and capacity simulation. economical analysis in the regenerative inverter system.

  • Recently, the power supply equipments have tendency to take multiple feedback loop paths. In this paper, the state space averaging technique is applied for the analysis of flyback type current mode control circuit. We made real converter for the gurantee of stable output characteristic and proper design of feedback circuit. The validity of proposed method is verified from test results. The improvement of stability is confirmed by sinusoidal signal injection method with isolated transformer. It is known that phase margin is sufficient and gain crossover frequency $f_c$ is nearly 1/5 of switching frequency $f_s$ from the experimental result with frequency response analyzer.

  • In this paper fundamental features of the arc stability in DC arc furnace of 720V/100kA/72MW have been investigated. Cassie-Mayr arc model has been employed for the target dc arc furnace. In order to characterize the parameters of Cassie-Mayr arc model and the behavior of unstable arc dynamics, the advanced arc simulations of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) has been performed. Based on the results of MHD simulation, dc arc dynamic resistance is proposed to be an effective arc stability function reflecting the instability of dynamic arc behavior. The experimental result confirms the usefulness of proposed dynamic arc resistance as arc stability function. The proposed arc stability function can be regarded as an effective criterion for the overall power conversion system to maintain highly stable arcing operation leading to better productivity and reliability.

  • The output power of most facilities for renewable energy generation is unstable due to external environmental conditions. In distributed power systems with two or more sources, a stable output can be achieved with the complementary power supply among the different input sources. In this paper, a double-input DC-DC converter with a wide-input-voltage-range is proposed for renewable energy generation. This converter has the following advantages: the circuit is simple, and the input voltage range is wide and the fault tolerance is excellent. The operation modes and the steady-state analysis are examined. Finally, experimental results are illustrated to verify the correctness of the analysis and the feasibility of the proposed converter.

  • In this paper, a discontinuous-conduction mode (DCM) DC-DC buck converter is presented for mobile device applications. The buck converter consists of compensator for stable operations, pulse-width modulation (PWM) logic, and power switches. In order to achieve small hardware form-factor, the number of off-chip components should be kept to be minimum, which can be realized with simple and efficient frequency compensation and digital soft start-up circuits. Burst-mode operation is included for preventing the efficiency from degrading under very light load condition. The DCM DC-DC buck converter is fabricated with 0.18-um BCDMOS process. Programmable output with external resistors is typically set to be 1.8V for the input voltage between 2.8 and 5.0V. With a switching frequency of 1MHz, measured maximum efficiency is 92.6% for a load current of 100mA.

  • In this paper, the GaN FET based phase-shift full-bridge dc-dc converter design is implemented. Switch characteristics of GaN FET were analyzed in detail by comparing state-of-the-art Si MOSFET. Owing to the low conduction resistance and parasitic capacitance, it is expected to GaN FET based power conversion system has improved performance. However, GaN FET is vulnerable to electric interference due to the relatively low threshold voltage and fast switching transient. Therefore, it is necessary to consider PCB layout to design GaN FET based power system because PCB layout is the main reason of stray inductance. To reduce the electric noise, gate voltage of GaN FET is analyzed according to operation mode of phase-shift full-bridge dc-dc converter. Two 600W phase-shifted full-bridge dc-dc converter are designed based on the result to evaluate effects of stray inductance.

  • Voltage stabilization is an essential component of power quality in low voltage DC (LVDC) microgrid. The microgrid demands the interconnection of a number of small distributed power resources, including variable renewable generators. Therefore, the voltage can be maintained in a stable manner through the control of these distributed generators. In this study, we did research on the new advanced operating method for a photovoltaic (PV) simulator in order to achieve interconnection to a bipolar LVDC microgrid. The validity of this voltage stabilization method, using the distributed generators, is experimentally verified. The test LVDC microgrid is configured by connecting the developed PV simulator and DC load, DC line, and AC/DC rectifier for connecting the main AC grid. The new advanced control method is applied to the developed PV simulator for the bipolar LVDC grid in order to stabilize the gird voltage. Using simulation results, the stabilization of the grid voltage by PV simulator using the proposed control method is confirmed the through the simulation results in various operation scenarios.

  • The wireless power transfer (WPT) charging system for AGV depends highly on the coupling conditions due to air gap variation. To attain stable output power with high transfer efficiency under various coupling conditions, a single-stage, DC-DC converter that operates with robustness to changes in air gaps is proposed for the WPT system. The proposed converter is capable of soft switching under the set input voltage (Vin: 380 VDC), load conditions (0-1 kW), and air gap changes (30-70 mm). In addition, a wide output voltage range (Vo: 39-54 VDC) can be controlled by varying the link voltage due to the phase control at a fixed switching frequency. Experimental results are verified using a prototype of a 1 kW wireless power charging system.

  • This paper presents the modeling for islanded hybrid AC/DC microgrid and the verification of the proposed supervisory controller for energy management for this microgrid. The supervisory controller allows the microgrid system to operate in different power flows through the proposed control algorithm, it has several roles in the management of the energy flow between the different components of the microgrid for reliable operation. The proposed microgrid has both essential objectives such as the maximum use of renewable energies resources and the reduction of multiple conversion processes in an individual AC or DC microgrids. The microgrid system considered for this study has a solar photovoltaic (PV), a wind turbine (WT), a battery (BT), and a AC/DC loads. A small islanded hybrid AC/DC microgrid has been modeled and simulated using the MATLAB-Simulink. The simulation results show that the system can maintain stable operation under the proposed supervisory controller when the microgrid is switched from one operating mode of energy flow to another.
