  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the Limits of stability(LOS) in hemiplegic patients who can walking independently. The LOS was measured at stable surface, unstable surface with eye open and eye closed. In this study, 18 out-patients were evaluated who were treated at Yonsei University Medical Center Rehabilitation Hospital. In order to determine the statistical significance of results, T-test, paired t-test, and Kruskal-Wallis 1-way ANOVA were applied at 0.05 level of significance. The results were as follows: 1. The mean of lateral limits of stability was 9.89 degree. 2. The mean of anteroposterior limits of stability was 6.43 degree. 3. There was a significant difference of limits of stability between sound side and affected side(p<0.05). 4. The limits of stability was significantly decreased with eye closed(p<0.05) 5. The limits of stability was significantly decreased at unstable surface(p<0.05). 6. The limits of stability was a significant difference as spasticity degree of ankle plantar flexors(p<0.05). These results showed that the limits of stability in hemiplegic patients was more decreased than that of normal adult. In order to improve the balance in hemiplegic patients, we need to increase the limits of stability.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the limits of stability(LOS) at different sensory conditions in normal 20 years of age. The LOS was measured at stable surface, and unstable surface and the subjects stood with the feet contacted and 4 inches between the feet with the eyes open and the eyes closed. In this study, 20 physical therapy major subjects were evaluated at Wonkwang Public Health Junior College. In this study applied the paired t-test, and Kruskal-Wallis 1-way ANOVA to determine the statistical significance of results at 0.01 level of significance. The results were as follows: 1. The mean of lateral limits of stability was b.67 degree at stable surface with the eyes open and standing with the feet contacted. 2. The mean of anteroposterior limits of stability was 9.78 degree at stable surface with the eyes open and standing with the feet contacted. 3. The mean of lateral limits of stability was 15.10 degree at stable surface with the eyes open and standing with 4 inches between the feet. 4. The mean of anteroposterior limits of stability was 11.72 degree at stable surface with the eyes open and standing with 4 inches between the feet. 5. The anterior-posterior and lateral limits of stability significantly decreased with the eyes closed(p<0.01). 6. The anterior-posterior and lateral limits of stability significantly decreased at unstable surface(p<0.01). 7. There was no significant difference of limits of stability as the height and foot length(p>0.01).

  • In order to reject the steady-state tracking error, it is common to introduce integral compensators in servosystems for constant reference signals. However, if the mathematical model of the plant is exact and no disturbance input exists, the integral compensation is not necessary. From this point of view, a two-degree-of-freedom(2DOF) servosystem has been proposed, in which the integral compensation is effective only when there is a modeling error or a disturbance input. The present paper considers robust stability of this 2DOF servosystem incorporating an observer to the structured and unstructured uncertainties of the controlled plant. A robust stability condition is obtained using Riccati inequality, which is written in a linear matrix inequality (LMI) and independent of the gain of the integral compensator. This result impies that if the plant uncertainty is in the allowable set defined by the LMI condition, a high-gain integral compensation can be carried preserving robust stability to accelerate the tracking response.

  • In this paper, the problem on periodic solutions of the bidirectional associative memory neural networks with both periodic coefficients and periodic time-varying delays is discussed. By using degree theory, inequality technique and Lyapunov functional, we establish the existence, uniqueness, and global asymptotic stability of a periodic solution. The obtained results of stability are less restrictive than previously known criteria, and the hypotheses for the boundedness and monotonicity on the activation functions are removed.

  • This study was carried out for the stability analysis of earth dam by the variation of compaction density. The test samples were taken from five kinds of soil used for banking material and the degree of compaction for this samples were chosen 100, 95, 90, 85, and 80 percent. The stability problems were analysed by the settlement and camber( extra banking) of dam, strength parameter and dam slope, and coefficient of permeability and seapage flow through dam body. The results of the stability analysis of earth dam are as follows. 1. The more the fine particle increases and lower the compaction degree becomes, the lower the preconsolidation load becomes but the compression index becomes higher. 2. Sixty to eighty percent of settlement of dam occurs during the construction period and the settlement ratio after completion of dam is inversly proportional to the degree of compaction. 3. The camber of dam has heigher value in condition that it has more fine particle(N) and heigher dam height(H) with the relation of H= e(aN-bH-e). 4. The cohesion(C) decreases in proportion to compaction degree(D) and fine particle(N) with the relation of C= aD+ bN-c, but the internal friction angle is almost constant regardless of change of degree of compaction. 5. In fine soil, strength parameter from triaxial compression test is smaller than that from direct shear test but, they are almost same in coarse soil regardless of the test method. 6. The safety factor of the dam slope generally decreases in proportion to cohesion and degree of compaction but, in case of coarse soil, it is less related to the degree of compaction and is mainly afected by internal friction angle. 7. Soil permeability(K) decreases by the increases of the degree of compaction and fine particle with relation of K=e(a-bl)-cN) 8. The more compaction thickness is, the less vertical permeability (Kv) is but the more h6rzontal permeability (KH) is, and ratio of Kv versus KH is largest in range from 85 to 90 percent of degree of corn paction. 9. With the compaction more than 85 percent and coefficient of permeability less than ${\alpha}$X 10-$^3$cm/sec, the earth dam is generally safe from the piping action.

The present paper considers a robust stability of this 2DOF servosystem with nonlinear type uncertainty in the system, and a robust stability condition for the servosystem is introduced. This result guarantees that if the plant uncertainty is in the permissible set defined by the condition, gain tuning can be carried out to suppress the influence of the plant uncertainties and disturbance inputs.

  • This study analyzed individual happiness exponent according to local residents' perception degree of Health-Cities. The data, which is accumulated by the survey on relationship between happiness and perception degree of Health-Cities targeting 662 of local residents living in Y-gu in Busan, were analyzed using PASW 18.0. The results are as follows. To begin with, the results of Correlation Analysis on the relation between happiness index and cognition degree of Health-Cites indicate that the higher perception of Health-Cities'facilities, administrations, services, education, health environment and transportation the local residents have, the lower individual happiness index they acquired. The cognition degree of transportation has effects on local society and daily life; the cognition degree of facilities and businesses has impact on financial stability. The cognition degree of administrations has influence on psychological relaxation, services have meaningful effects on psychological stability, work and residence, education have statistically meaningful effects on psychological stability, families and marriage, individual human relationships in respect.

  • This paper considers robust stability and transient behavior of the Two - Degree - of - Freedom(2DOF) servosystem. A class of uncertainties allowed in the plant model is obtained, to which the servosystem is robustly stable for any gain of the integral compensator. This result implies that if the plant uncertainty is the allowable set defined by the condition, a high - gain compensation can be carried out preserving stability to achieve a high - speed tracking response. The transient behavior attainable by the limit of the high - gain compensation is calculated using the singular perturbation approach.
