  • In general, there has been a lot of research concerned about the gear noise known to be proportional to gear transmission error for external gears likewise spur, helical gear, and hypoid gears. But, In the case of planetary gear set, gear noise study is insufficient because of the difficulty of designing, manufacturing, and understanding of the its mechanical system. This study is aimed to develop the transmission error measurement equipment for the planetary gear sets used in the automatic transmission. By comparing the results of the transmission error and noise objectively, user could select the optimized planetary gear set which has quiet noise level before manufacturing the automatic transmission.

  • Transmission error (TE) is defined as "the angular difference between the ideal output shaft position and actual position". As TE is one of the major source of the noise and vibration of gears, it is originally studied with relation of the noise and vibration of the gears. However, recently, with the relation of mesh stiffness, TE has been studied for fault detection of spur gear sets. This paper presents a physics-based theory on fault diagnostics of a planetary gear using transmission error. After constructing the lumped parameter model using DAFUL, multi-body dynamics software, we developed a methodology to diagnose the faults of the planetary gear including phase calculation, signal processing. Using developed methodology, we could conclude that TE could be a good signal for fault diagnostics of a planetary gear.

PIM기술을 이용한 마이크로 부품 성형기술 (Manufacturing technology of micro parts by powder injection molding)

  • Manufacturing technologies of micro spur gear and micro mold by micro PIM were studied with stainless steel feedstock. For molding of gears, micro mold with gear cavity of 1.2 mm in diameter was produced by wire EDM. The proper injection pressure was selected to 70bar by observation and measuring of shapes and shrinkage of gears before/after sintering. For fabrication of micro mold, a tiny polymer gear was produced by injection into the mold. Then, 316L feedstock was again injected/compressed on the polymer gear and debinded together with polymer gear followed by sintering. As a result, another metal mold with gear cavity reduced to about 20% was fabricated and through repetition of this process chain, micro gear mold with cavity about below 800 um was finally obtained. In reduction of size by injection/compression molding, height of gear tooth was shrunk more and the effort for decrease of roughness of micro cavity were carried out ultrasonic polishing and as a result, the roughness in cavity decreased from 3-4 um to about 200 nm.

  • This study develops an automation system for metallic mold design that is applicable in forging non-axial symmetric parts. The metallic mold design program is used to design the metallic mold using two-dimensional axial symmetric metallic molds and to predict the stress concentration using finite element analyses. Then, the program redesigns the metallic mold using variables such as the optimal split diameter, maximum allowable inner pressure, fit tolerance, and stress distribution, which are calculated using the metallic mold design program. When the involute spur gear is forged, stress concentration occurs on the tooth root bounded at the symmetric surface. The SCM4 material is suitable for metallic molds because the stress is less than the yield strength of the insert and it acts on the tooth root regardless of the inner pressure. The metallic mold for forging non-axial symmetric parts can be designed through adjusting the magnitude of the contact pressure. The program developed in this study can be applied to metallic mold designs in involute spur gears of forging, which is an ordinary non-axial symmetric part.

전달오차의 EEMD적용을 통한 기어 결함분류연구 (A Study on Fault Classification by EEMD Application of Gear Transmission Error)

  • 본 논문에서는 기어 전달오차의 EEMD 적용을 통한 기어 이빨의 박리결함과 균열결함의 분류법을 소개한다. 두 가지 결함을 적용한 기어의 유한요소모델을 바탕으로 전달오차를 획득하고 전달오차에서 나타나는 두 가지 결함의 특징과 정상상태의 전달오차와의 차이를 나타내는 RTE에서 나타나는 두 가지 결함의 특징을 확인했으며 유한요소해석 결과를 이용한 시뮬레이션 신호를 구성하여 신호처리를 통한 RTE 획득과정을 구성하였다. 시뮬레이션 신호로부터 얻은 RTE의 EEMD 적용을 통하여 박리과 균열의 신호가 각기 다른 IMF에서 비중이 크다는 것을 확인하였고, 이를 실험을 통해 검증하고자 하였다. 한 쌍의 기어와 서보모터, 파우더브레이크 그리고 기어의 회전량을 측정하기 위한 엔코더로 구성되어있는 테스트베드를 꾸려 전달오차를 획득하였다. 두 개의 기어를 이용하여 정상, 박리, 균열 세가지 상황에 대한 전달오차를 획득하여 시뮬레이션과 같은 과정을 거쳐 결함이 신호로 구분되는 것을 확인했다. 이를 정량화 하기위해 파고율을 각 IMF에 적용하였고 첫 번째 IMF와 세 번째 IMF의 파고율을 특징 신호로 선정하였다. 실험을 통해 확보된 데이터를 이용하여 Bayes decision 이론을 이용하여 분류 방법을 제시하였다.

  • Numerical calculation tool for forging of gear-like components based on kinematically admissible velocity fields for upper bound method applicable to various deformation features of workpiece in forging processes were suggested. Each one of them deals with unidirectional flow of metal on dies, such as external involute spur gear, sequare spline, internal serrations. A complex calcuation tool of gear-like component forging process was built up by combining these kinematically velocity fields. In this paper, the workpiece with both external and internal teeth is divided into two parts. The deformation of each part is analyzed simultaneously using numerical calculation tool form combined kinematically admissible velocity field. The experimental set-up was installed in a 200 ton hydraulic press. As a result, each kinematically admissible velocity field could be combined with other and the calculated solution are useful to predict the capacity of forging equipment.

  • The hob is considered as an effective gear cutting tool for achieving the various gears such as spur gear, helical gear, worm gear and so on. To enhance the productivity and precision of hobs and the competitive ability of domestic CNC hob relieving lathes, a CAM system for CNC hob relieving lathe needs to be realized. In this study, the CAM system is developed based on the personal computer and C language. Besides the automatic generation of CNC data, the developed CAM system has the various capabilities related to the generation of tool path, the cutting simulation for verifying the generated CNC data and forecasting the cutting time, the DNC operation for communicating the CNC data with CNC controller by RS232C port, and the estimation of undercut length for verifying the hob cutting conditions.

  • A computer aided design system for spur, helical, bevel and worm gears by using AutoCAD system and its AutoLISP computer language was newly developed in this study. Two methods are available for a designer to draw a gear. The first method needs the gear design parameters such as pressure, module, number of tooth, shaft angle, velocity, materials, etc. When the gear design parameters are inputted, a gear is drawn in AutoCAD system and maximum allowable power and shaft diameter are calculated additionally. The second method calculates all dimensions and gear design parameters to draw a gear when the information such as transmission, reduction ratio, rpm, materials and pressure are inputted. The system includes four programs. Each program is composed of a data input module, a database module, a strength calculation module, a drawing module, a text module and a drawing edit module. In conclusion, the CAD system would be widely used in companies to find the geometric data and manufacturing course.

헬리컬기어에서 나선각과 치폭의 변화에 따른 이뿌리응력에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Root Fillet Stress Analysis of Helical Gear due to Helix Angle and Face Width)

  • In this paper, the FEM(Finite Element Method) has been applied to understand the geometrical characteristics and to analyze the stress of a helical gear. The helical gear is simulated and analyzed by adding many thin spur gear with helix angles and twist angles. Helical gears with different helix angle and face width have been studied. The results show that the root fillet stress is increased proportionally to helix angle and face width. Namely, as the face width increases, root fillet stress decreases, and as helix angle gets bigger, root fillet stress increases.
