  • There are two important variables in machining process control, which are feed and cutting speed. In this work, a two degree-of-freedom controller is designed and implemented to achieve on-line cutting force control based on the modelling of cutting process dynamics which are established through step response test. Two schemes are proposed and implemented. The first is feed control under the constant spindle speed and spindle speed control under the constant fled speed. The second is a simultaneous control of feed and spindle speed. Those are confirmed to work properly. Especially the latter shows a faster response and we'll be evaluated to pare away workpiece by simultaneous control of position and cutting farce sooner or later.

  • This study deals with controlling the speed of Hydrostatic Transmission (HST) system throuth the control of pumping stroke of positive displacement pump using high-speed solenoid valve controlled by digital closed loop PWM method. The method which was done in this study is as follows: First, we modified original positive displacement pump and designed pumping stroke control system of HST by using the high-speed solenoid valve. Second, after experimenting static and dynamic characteristics on each signal flow, we identified system parameter of approximated model. Finally, to control the speed of HST, we controlled the angle of the swash plate of positive displacement pump by controlling the pressure in the control cylinder chamber. Test which was carried out in the laboratory shows that transient and steady state response could be improved by PID controller.

  • The numerical study was conducted to investigate the pump performance due to impeller related parameters change in centrifugal pump of very low specific speed by using CFD code. A small centrifugal pump whose specific speed is $N_s=76.2$ was used, and the performance characteristics were discussed for different number of vanes, rotational speed, and the length and height of vane. The numerical results at a very low specific speed show that the increase of the number of vanes has little effect on improvement of output pressure but results in the reduction of pressure fluctuation, and that the head increases with the increase in the rotational speed. The decreasing the length of vane has a considerable reduction of the capacity coefficient in comparison with decreasing the height of vane.

  • This paper proposes a new fuzzy speed controller for the precise speed control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). The proposed control system needs the information of the angular acceleration instead of the load torque, so the third-order fuzzy acceleration observer estimates it. Moreover, the LMI conditions are derived for the existence of the fuzzy acceleration observer and fuzzy speed controller, and the gain matrices of the observer and controller are obtained. It is analytically proven that the proposed observer-based fuzzy speed regulator is exponentially stable. To evaluate the performance of the proposed control algorithm, experimental results as well as simulation results are provided under the conditions of motor parameter and load torque variations. Finally, it is clearly confirmed that the proposed control method can accurately control the speed of a PMSM.

  • This paper presents a classical speed controller (CSC) for vector controlled induction motors. The controller explores the use of a Fuzzy Logic controller in a classical form. The controller combines the advantages of the classical controller and the properties of intelligent controllers. The Fuzzy Logic controller idea is used to obtain the CSC output equation, whereby the CSC equation is based on the speed error and its change. The CSC parameters are calculated based on the motor mechanical equation and a predefined system performance. Once the CSC parameters are obtained, the defined speed performance can be achieved at all operating conditions. The application of the CSC to control the speed of a vector controlled induction motor is presented. Different induction motor ratings are used. Simulation results in all possible olperating conditions are presented. Results show that the CSC behaves as an expert controller to provide the predefined speed performance in all possible operating conditions. Based on the results obtained in this paper, the CSC is expected to become the ultimate solution for high-performance drives of the next generation.

  • This paper proposes a new fuzzy speed controller to precisely regulate the speed of a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM). The proposed fuzzy controller needs the knowledge of the load torque to realize its robust and accurate control, thus the first-order load torque observer is adopted to estimate it. It is analytically confirmed that the overall control system containing the fuzzy speed controller and the load torque observer is exponentially stable. To prove the validity of the proposed fuzzy speed controller, the simulation and experimental results are shown. It is concluded that the proposed control scheme can be employed to accurately control the speed of a SPMSM motor.

  • DC Motors have been widely used in industry as driving power motors for electrical vehicles cranes and winches due to their strong starting torques and as servo-motors for position and speed control systems due to their convenience of speed control etc. Generally in the speed control systems of motors speed sensors are required and this fact results in he increased price and operating cost and in the limitted applications. This paper presents a new speed control method for sensorless DC motors. In this scheme the speed signal is estimatd by the measurement values of the armature voltage and current. A Fuzzy feedback controller instead of the conventional PID controller. Through simulations the effectiveness and usefullness of the proposed method are illustrated.

  • A light collecting probe named Multi-color Integrated Cassegrain Receiving Optics (MICRO) is applied to spark-ignited spherical spray flames to obtain the flame propagation speed in freely falling droplet suspension produced by an ultrasonic atomizer. Two MICRO probes are used to monitor time-series signals of OH chemiluminescence from two different locations in the flame. By detecting the arrival time difference of the propagating flame front, the flame propagation speed is calculated with a two-point delay-time method. In addition, time-series images of OH chemiluminescence are simultaneously obtained by a high-speed digital CCD camera to ensure the validity of the two-point delay-time method by the MICRO system. Furthermore, the relationship between the spray properties measured by phase Doppler anemometer (PDA) and the flame propagation speed are discussed with three different experimental conditions by changing the fuel injection rate. It was confirmed that the two-point delay-time method with two MICRO probes is useful and convenient to obtain the flame propagation speed and that the flame propagation speed depends on the spray properties.

  • Speed control of kerosene engine by the combination of a manual throttle and centrifugal weight type governor is not adequate for evaluating energy requirements in laboratory and field performance tests. This paper describes an engine speed control system. This system consists of Apple-II microcomputer, step motor set to the throttle shaft directly, step motor driving and interfacing circuit, engine performance data acquisition system for measuring load, speed and time and potentiometer as speed adjustor. The performance of this system was successful in maintaining engine speed within ${\pm}37$ rpm of reference speed indicated by computer and potentiometer.

  • The slip frequency is included in feature frequency for fault diagnosis of rotor bar, so rotating rotor speed is needed. In this study, rotor slot harmonic(RSH) method is suggested for speed estimation of induction motor. When the rotor is rotating, motor current signal include the harmonic signal of back-emf voltage related with number of rotor slot. So from the power spectrum of current signal, the rotor speed can be founded. This method of rotor speed estimation gives the slip frequency, and the feature frequency of rotor bar fault can be calculated. Comparing with stroboscope speed meter, the error rate of suggested method is less than 0.1[%].
