Quantitative Analysis of Voice Quality after Radiation Therapy for Stage T1a Glottic Carcinoma (T1a 병기 성문암의 방사선 치료 후 음성에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose : To evaluate the voices of irradiated patients with early glottic carcinoma and to compare these with the voices of healthy volunteers. Materials and Methods : The voice samples (sustained vowel) of seventeen male patients who had been irradiated for T1a glottic squamous carcinoma at least 1 year prior to the study were analyzed with objective voice analyzer (acoustic voice analysis, aerodynamic test, and videostroboscopic analysis) and compared with those of a normal group of twenty age- and sex-matched volunteers. Average fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, and noise-to-harmonic ratio were obtained for acoustic voice analysis. Maximal phonation time, mean flow rate, intensity, subglottic pressure, glottal resistance, glottal efficiency, and glottal power were obtained for aerodynamic test. Results : The irradiated group presented higher values of shimmer in acoustic voice analysis. There was no significant difference between two groups in other parameters. Conclusion : In this study all the objective voice parameters except shimmer were no4 significantly different between the irradiated group and the control group. These results suggest that the voice quality is minimally affected by radiation therapy for 71 a glottic carcinoma.

Design of a Low Power Digital Filter Using Variable Canonic Signed Digit Coefficients (가변 CSD 계수를 이용한 저전력 디지털 필터의 설계)

  • In this Paper, an approximate processing method is proposed and tested. The proposed method uses variable CSD (VCSD) coefficients which approximate filter stopband attenuation by controlling the precision of the CSD coefficient sets. A decimation filter for Audio Codec '97 specifications has been designed having processor architecture that consists of program/data memory, arithmetic unit, energy/level decision, and sinc filter blocks, and fabricated with 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS sea-of-gate technology. For the combined two halfband FIR filters in decimation filter, the number of addition operations were reduced to 63.5%, 35.7%, and 13.9%, compared to worst-case which is not an adaptive one. Experimental results show that the total power reduction rate of the filter is varying from 3.8 % to 9.0 % with respect to worst-case. The proposed approximate processing method using variable CSD coefficients is readily applicable to various kinds of filters and suitable, especially, for the speech and audio applications, like oversampling ADCs and DACs, filter banks, voice/audio codecs, etc.

  • The real-time bio-signal monitoring system based on the ZigBee and SIP/RTP has proposed and implemented for telemedicine but that has some problems at the stabilities to transmit bio-signal from the sensors to the other sides. In this paper, we designed and implemented a real-time bio-signal monitoring system that is focused on the reliability and efficiency for transmitting bio-signal at real-time. We designed the system to have enhanced architecture and performance in the ubiquitous sensor network, SIP/RTP real-time transmission and management of the database. The Bluetooth network is combined with ZigBee network to distribute traffic of the ECG and the other bio-signal. The modified and multiplied RTP session is used to ensure real-time transmission of ECG, other bio-signals and speech information on the internet. The modified ECG compression method based on DWLT and MSVQ is used to reduce data rate for storing ECG to the database. Finally we implemented a system that has improved performance for transmitting bio-signal from the sensors to the monitoring console and database. This implemented system makes possible to make various applications to serve U-health care services.

The Research of Knowledge and Attitude about Water Fluoridation Program for Residents of Haeundae-Gu, Busan (부산광역시 해운대구민의 수돗물불소농도조정사업에 대한 의식 조사연구)

  • This study is performed both for notification of knowledge level about water fluoridation program for residents of Haeundae, Busan and for finding out the purpose of solving methods of problems which could appeared in water fluoridation program, it has resulted by the survey of 460 Haeundae citizens from August 5, 2005 thru 20th of same month. 1. The drinking water for Haeundae Residents is occupied of 42.8% of the purified water and 31.3% of public tap water, among these, the cooking water is consist of 48.3% of the tap water and 35.4% of the purified water. 2. 35.7% of participants has already known about the water fluoridation program, but 42.0% hasn't, 22.4% were no answer. 3. For the question why water fluoridation program has done 42.0% answered for caries prevention, 32.3% for disinfection of tap water and 15.0% for tap water purification. 4. For water fluoridation program, 78.0% approved and 22.0% disapproved, among reasons 51.0% of approvals were caries prevention and 38.6% of disapproval were that fluorine can be harmful for the human body. 5. There is a fact that fluorine is contained in food, beverage, water, and air, only 21.3% has notified that fact, on the other hand 78.7% hasn't, among teens, 93.5% doesn't know the fluorine containing facts. 6. In the safety notification rate of water fluoridation program, 39.3% notifies it safe, 55.7% showed unknown response, and the speech 28.3% may be the best way to notify it.

Study on the Relationship between Family Support and Functional Recovery in Cerebrovascular Accident Patients with Rehabilitation Treatment of Oriental Medicine (한방재활치료를 받은 뇌졸중 환자가 지각한 가족지지와 기능회복에 관한 연구)

  • Functional recovery of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients were studied by examining functional independence measure (FIM) to evaluate the functional state of the patients at admission to and at discharge from the hospital and its relationship with the family support. Study subjects consisted of 129 CVA patients, who were admitted and received rehabilitation treatment at K Medical Center of Oriental Medicine from August 3 to December 18, 1997. The results were as follows: 1) Total FIM score was $72.37{\pm}25.16$ at admission and $101.67{\pm}22.13$ at discharge. The difference of average score was 29.30, which was statistically significant by paired t-test. 2) The largest difference between FIM scores at admission and at clischarge was observed in items of walking and wheel-chair riding, and the smallest clifference in items of social interaction. 3) The recovery was faster with motor function than with cognitive function, because the difference of FIM scores at admission and at discharge was much larger with motor function. 4) Recovery was better in groups under age 49 than in groups above age 70. Functional recorvery was prominent especially in groups with normal sensory state and speech functions, and groups without urinary incontinence. Recovery was less significantly in patients with paraplegic patients hospitalized longer than 2 months, patients with family all the time, and patients with CVA over 11 days. 5) We could not find any relationship between functional recovery and family support. FIM scores were lower in groups of old age(r=-0.325), long stayed in hospital (r=-0.426), and long period of time after the onset of disease(r= -0.339) with a reciprocal correlation between FIM scores and these parameters. 6) Stepwise multiple regression analysis was done to evaluate factors to affect the recovery from CVA. FIM score at admission could explain 51.2 % of the functional recovery. Important factors were periods of hospitalization, state of sensory function, age, and education (listed in decreasing order of importance). In total, they could explain 64.89% of the functional recovery. These results indicate that functional recovery of CVA patients, who were admitted to oriental medicine hospital for rehabilitation treatment, could be estimated by measuring FIM scores. Recovery was significantly better at discharge from the hospital than at admission and motor function recovery rate was much faster than that of cognitive function. 2. Recommendation Based on these results, we recommend following further studies. 1) Comparative study of recovery of motor function and of sensory function would be necessary by measuring FIM scores once a week to evaluate the recovery of CVA patients. 2) It would be interesting to see whether there is any difference of functional recovery between patients treated with either western medicine or oriental medicine. 3) Psychological factors affecting the recovery of CVA patients need to be studied.

Acoustic Characteristics of Sound Field in Partially Opened Rooms -Emphasis on Vertical Coupling of Diffuse and Free Field- (실내공간의 부분적 개방에 따른 음향특성변화 II -확산음장과 자유음장의 수직적 결합을 중심으로-)

  • The present work measured and analyzed changes in the acoustics of a sound field which has a retractable ceiling. An 1/20 scale model of an openable space was built and measurement was carried out by varying the opened area of a ceiling. The most widely used room acoustic and design parameters, RT, EDT, and D50 were investigated. The results suggest that the use of RT as an acoustic design parameter may not be proper in an openable space and further it is likely to mislead the initial acoustic design of such spaces. It is mainly due to the characteristics of RT in which non-exponential decay processes are linearly fitted. Early decay times were found to be decreased in proportion to increaing the ratio of opened area. D50, an index of speech intelligibility, was effectively shows the influence of openings on the acoustics. It is also found that EDT and D50 at the seats, not directly exposed to the opened part of a ceiling, were almost linearly decreased in proportion to the ratio of opened area, while little influence was found for the opening ratio larger than 40% at the directly exposed seats to the opened part of a ceiling.

  • In this study, a prototype design model was proposed for developing an online recruitment system through multi-dimensional data crawling and social media analysis, and validates text information and video interview in job application process. This study includes a comparative analysis process through text mining to verify the authenticity of job application paperwork and to effectively hire and allocate workers based on the potential job capability. Based on the prototype system, we conducted performance tests and analyzed the result for key performance indicators such as text mining accuracy and interview STT(speech to text) function recognition rate. If commercialized based on design specifications and prototype development results derived from this study, it may be expected to be utilized as the intelligent online recruitment system technology required in the public and private recruitment markets in the future.

  • In this paper, we introduce a speaker overlap system and look at the process of converting the existed system on the specific framework of artificial intelligence. Speaker overlap is when two or more speakers speak at the same time during a conversation, and can lead to performance degradation in the fields of speech recognition or speaker recognition, and a lot of research is being conducted because it can prevent performance degradation. Recently, as application of artificial intelligence is increasing, there is a demand for switching between artificial intelligence frameworks. However, when switching frameworks, performance degradation is observed due to the unique characteristics of each framework, making it difficult to switch frameworks. In this paper, the process of converting the speaker overlap detection system based on the Keras framework to the pytorch-based system is explained and considers components. As a result of the framework switching, the pytorch-based system showed better performance than the existing Keras-based speaker overlap detection system, so it can be said that it is valuable as a fundamental study on systematic framework conversion.

Design of CNN-based Braille Conversion and Voice Output Device for the Blind (시각장애인을 위한 CNN 기반의 점자 변환 및 음성 출력 장치 설계)

  • As times develop, information becomes more diverse and methods of obtaining it become more diverse. About 80% of the amount of information gained in life is acquired through the visual sense. However, visually impaired people have limited ability to interpret visual materials. That's why Braille, a text for the blind, appeared. However, the Braille decoding rate of the blind is only 5%, and as the demand of the blind who want various forms of platforms or materials increases over time, development and product production for the blind are taking place. An example of product production is braille books, which seem to have more disadvantages than advantages, and unlike non-disabled people, it is true that access to information is still very difficult. In this paper, we designed a CNN-based Braille conversion and voice output device to make it easier for visually impaired people to obtain information than conventional methods. The device aims to improve the quality of life by allowing books, text images, or handwritten images that are not made in Braille to be converted into Braille through camera recognition, and designing a function that can be converted into voice according to the needs of the blind.

Effects of smartphone app-based oral muscle strength training on functional improvement in the elderly (노인 대상 스마트폰 앱 콘텐츠를 이용한 구강 근력 강화 훈련의 기능 개선 효과)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to develop educational content for a smartphone app on oral muscle training and examine its effects on the elderly population. Methods: A total of twelve training sessions were delivered through the smartphone app over a six-week period, from late August to early October 2023. Each session lasted approximately 60 minutes. Participants were followed up after the program. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvements in oral health before and after using the smartphone app. These improvements included decreased dental plaque (p<0.05) by 0.69 units, decreased gingivitis (p<0.001) by 0.99 units, decreased tongue plaque (p<0.01) by 1.11 units, increased salivary secretion rate (p<0.001) by 0.73 units, increased hard palate strength (p<0.001) by 5.25 units, and increased soft palate strength (p<0.01) by 6.82 units. Compared to the control group, the experimental group showed significant improvements in dental plaque (p<0.001), gingivitis (p<0.001), and tongue coating (p<0.01). Conclusions: This study found that oral muscle strengthening training using the smartphone app effectively improved oral health in the elderly. The developed app content has the potential to be a valuable tool for promoting oral health in this population within their daily routines. However, further efforts are needed to ensure clear communication and effective utilization of the training program through user training or educational materials.
