분광타원법을 이용한 Pr 첨가 Ge-Sb-Se 계열 셀레나이드 유리의 굴절률 결정 (Determination of optical properties of Pr3+-doped selenide glasses of Ge-Sb-Se system using spectroscopic ellipsometry)

  • 1.6 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 파장대의 U밴드 광증폭기용 광섬유 소재인 Pr첨가 Ge-Sb-Se 계열 셀레나이드 유리의 굴절률을 분광타원법을 이용하여 결정하였다. 시료의 광물성을 조사하기 위해 투과 파장 영역에서의 타원 스펙트럼을 Sellmeier 분산관계식에 기반한 공기/미시 거칠기층/표면층/기층으로 구성된 4상계의 모델에 적용하여 굴절률과 분산계수 및 박막구조상수를 동시에 얻을 수 있었다. 디스크 형태로 가공된 각 시료의 양면을 대상으로 위치에 따라 수회 반복 측정을 통하여 시료의 표면 거칠기의 영향을 파악함으로써 조성 변화에 대한 굴절률 변화 양상을 보다 정확히 파악하였다. 시료의 표면 거칠기가 굴절률 측정치의 편차에 주된 영향을 미쳤으나 1 몰%에 해당하는 소량의 조성변화에 따른 굴절률 변화를 신뢰할 수 있는 수준으로 결정할 수 있었다. 실험적으로 결정된 조성변화와 굴절률과의 관계식은 단일모드의 셀레나이드 광섬유 제작에 있어 코어와 클래드의 조성을 결정하는데 직접적으로 활용될 수 있다.

탄산염광물화용 활석의 열처리에 따른 결정학적 분광학적 특성변화 (Crystallographic and Spectroscopic Characterization of Talc proposed Mineral Carbonation after Heat Treatment)

  • The heat treatment characteristics of natural talc sample was investigated in diverse analytical view point. The mass decrease comes to heat treatment was resulted by the continuous and the discontinuous process and the obtained result show very similar two step profiles with 8.9 % mass decrease. The dehydroxylation of -OH groups contained talc crystal was analyzed by spectroscopic method and the crystallographic variations was also observed after heat treatment. According to XPS result, the magnesium hydroxide($Mg(OH)_2$) of untreated talc powder changed to magnesium oxides(MgO) after heat treatment.

  • TVA (Twisted VA)모드를 이용하여 반사중심의 반투과형 LCD를 설계하였다. 일반적으로 VA 모드의 본질적인 특성에 의해서 발생하는 blue shift 문제를 분광보상필름을 사용하여 해결하였다. 시야각 특성과 명암대비비를 개선하기 위해서 FSF(Front Scattering Film)과 negative C-plate를 사용하였다. 제안된 반투과형 TVA 모드는 약 80:1의 명암대비비, 22ms의 response time과 표준 MgO 반사판 대비 약 25%의 반사율을 가진다.

  • The growth of diamond films in plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition(PECVD) processes requires high substrate temperatures and gas pressures, as well as high-power excitation of the gas source. Thus determining the substrate temperature in this severe environment is a challenge. The issue is a critical one since substrate temperature is a key parameter for understanding and optimizing diamond film growth. The precise Si substrate temperature calibration based on rapid-scanning spectroscopic ellipsometry have been developed and utilized. Using the true temperature of the top 200 ${\AA}$ of the Si substrate under diamond growth conditions, real time spectroellipsometry (RTSE) has been performed during the nucleation and growth of nanocrystallind thin films prepared by PECVD. RTSE shows that a significant volume fraction of nondiamond(or{{{{ {sp }^{2 } -bonded}}}}) carbon forms during thin film coalescence and is trapped near the substrate interface between ∼300 ${\AA}$ diamond nuclei.

  • The purposes of spectroscopy in astronomy are to measure the radiation flux of the spectroscopic emission or absorption line and to measure the dynamical parameters of the line profile. In order to use an appropriate instrument for the scientific purpose, we need to understand the characteristics of various spectrometers, e.g., a prism spectrometer, a grating spectrometer, and a Fabry-Perot spectrometer (FPS), which are being used in ultra-violet, optical, and infrared bands. The Fabry­Perot spectrometer is not very popular compared to the grating spectrometer, because of its complex and tricky operations. The Fabry-Perot spectrometer, however, can get a two-dimensional image at one exposure, so we can study radiation mechanisms and dynamical properties of extended sources, e.g., clusters, nebula, and galaxies.

ULTRAVIOLET AND VISIBLE SPECTROSCOPIC DATABASE FOR ATOMS AND MOLECULES IN CELESTIAL OBJETS

  • I have developed a UV and visible spectroscopic database (UVSD) for atoms and molecules, which are found in interstellar medium, stars, galaxies, and in the atmospheres of the earth, planets, satellites, and comets. This UV and visible database, which is machine-readable, consists of three different sub-databases depending upon the characteristics of the sub-databases: (A) atomic and molecular line listings from laboratory observations or theoretical studies; (B) absorption spectra measured in laboratories; and (C) solar UV, visible, and infrared spectral atlases. The UVSD is in a very initial stage of development compared with other well organized and established infrared and microwave databases. In order to make a good quality and complete database, substantial efforts should be made for the acquisition of scattered important data from laboratories or institutions, and then the acquired heterogeneous data should be peer-reviewed and standardized.

국내 토양 휴믹물질의 특성 규명 및 DB 구축에 대한 연구 (Characterization of Humic and Fulvic Acids Extracted at the Soils of Korea and Its DB Establishment)

  • In this study, humic and fulvic acids in soils at the vicinity of domestic atomic power plants(NPPs), located in Yungkwang(YK), Uljin(UJ), Kori(KR), Koseong(KS), Wolseong(WS) area, and in volcanic ash soils of the Cheju island(Mt. Hanla(HL), Manjanggul(MJ)) were isolated, and characterized using chemical(elemental analysis, proton exchange capacity, molecular size distribution) and spectroscopic(UV/Vis., IR, FL, $^{13}$ C NMR spectra) methods. The results were compared with one another and compiled for their DB establishments. The humic substances distribution (humic acid, fulvic acid, Humin) in the soils were also determined by IHSS standard method. Main purpose of this study was to provide a basic data needed to evaluate the effect of humic substances on the migrational behaviour of radioactive elements in contaminated surface soil.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopic Studies of Oriented Monolayers on Electrode Surfaces

  • Monolayers of hypericin, a photodynamic polycyclic quinoidal compound, were prepared at the air-water interface, and were transferred to metal substrates to form Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers. The structural characteristics of hypericin LB monolayers and self-assembled (SA) monolayers were investigated using surface-enhanced resonance Raman scattering (SERRS) spectroscopy. Both the spectroscopic data and the surface pressure - area (${\pi}-A$) isotherms suggest that hypericin forms ${\pi}-{\pi}$ aggregates that orient vertically to the subphase surface. Whereas the ordering and orientation of control was less effective in SA monolayers, a higher structural regularity was attained in LB systems. The effect of subphase on the structural integrity of the monolayer was also investigated.

  • 4-Ethyltropolone has been prepared in three steps from cyclopentadiene by a dichloroketene process, and at the same time, a comparison has also been made with the case of tropolone synthesis. In the addition reaction of dichloroketene to cyclopentadiene as well as to ethylcyclopentadiene, and also in the separation of cycloadducts from reaction mixture, the best results were given by prevention of the reactants from dimerization. Under these condition, the yields of cycloadducts were around 70% for both. Tropolone and 4-ethyltropolone were obtained in the yield of 51% and 32%, respectively, by hydrolysis of cycloadducts with potassium acetate in aqueous acetic acid. These results revealed that the steric effect of ethylgroup was more sensitive to the hydrolysis than to the cycloaddition reaction. A comparison of UV, IR and NMR spectroscopic results of 4-ethyltropolone with those of tropolone was also made together with a brief discussion of the tropolone ring system and ethylgroup effect.
