  • We developed Frequency-shifted feedback laser using AOM inside the cavity. The feedback loop of the laser is formed with the first-order diffracted light of the AOM to output mirror. It is shown that the FSF laser output has spectral output called“chirped frequency comb”with an ultrafast frequency chirp rate of several hundreds of PHz/s. It can know the range using chirped frequency comb in the optical range measurement that is FSF laser as source.

  • ZnO transparent conducting thin film, which is a strong candidate for a transparent electrical contact in optoelectronic devices, was prepared by the vapour spraying method on the slide glass in nitrogen ambient at the atmospheric pressure. The structural, optical and electrical properties of films show a strong dependence on substrate temperature, and the optimum range of deposition temperature existed to obtain TCO(Transparent Conducting Oxide) films. At the higher temperatures, milky films were obtained. In such optimum range, the bandgap in ZnO films was determined from the spectral dependence of absorption coefficient and electrical characteristics were characterized with by the Hall mobility and carrier concentration.

  • Wavelength tunable fiber ring laser can be tuned by causing a resonance on the optical path having the least loss which is controlled by a polarization adjustment. It is observed that lasing wavelengths having 1 nm FSR(Free Spectral Range) can be tuned over the range of 1540-1560 nm when a polarization controller and an intra-cavit polarizer with 1.5 mm air gap are adjusted. The characteristics of wavelength shift in the laser output are analyzed by introducing an optical path modeling and the concept of a birefringence loss.

  • In this paper we have investigated the guiding properties of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with a square-lattice of air-holes in the cladding. We have shown numerical results of PCFs with various air hole sizes and hole-to-hole spacings over a wide wavelength range. The group velocity dispersion, effective area and effective refractive index of PCF have been calculated numerically. The waveguide dispersion has greatly affected the group velocity dispersion when hole-to-hole spacing is about $1{\mu}m$. The effective area is quite flat over the wide spectral range whether the hole-to-hole spacing is large or ratio of diameter to pitch is large. From the field distribution, we found that the field is tightly confined within the core region of PCF when the pitch is $3{\mu}m$ and the air-filling fraction is 0.9.

  • Ocean Scanning Multispectral Imager (OSMI) is a payload on the Korean Multi-Purpose SATellite (KOMPSAT) to perform global ocean color monitoring for the study of biological oceanography. HOMPSAT was launched 21 December 1999. The radiometric performance of OSMI is analyzed for various gain settings in the viewpoint of the instrument developer for OSMI calibration and application based on its ground performance data measured before launch. The radiometric response linearity and dynamic range are analyzed and the dynamic range is compared with the nominal input radiance for the ocean and the land. The noise equivalent radiance (NER) corresponding to the instrument radiometric noise is compared with the radiometric resolution of signal digitization (1-count equivalent radiance). The best gain setting of OSMI for ocean monitoring is recommended. This analysis is considered to be useful for the OSMI mission and operation planning, the OSMI image data calibration, and users' understanding about OSMI image quality.

  • AVHRR(Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer) on NOAA satellite provides data in five spectral, one in visible range, one in near infrared and three in thermal range. In this paper, application of NOAA/AVHRR data is studied for environment monitoring such as cloud top temperature, surface temperature, albedo, sea surface temperature, vegetation index, forest fire, flood, snow cover and so on. The analyses for cloud top temperature, surface temperature, albedo, sea surface temperature, vegetation index and forest fire showed reasonable agreement. But monitoring for flood and snow cover was uneasy due to the limitations such as cloud contamination, low spatial resolution. So this research had only simple purpose to identify well-defined waterbody for dynamic monitoring of flood. Based on development of these basic algorithms, we have a plan to further reseach for environment monitoring using AVHRR data.

  • General Hyperspectral Image Sensor acquires an image of line form such as a thin rectangle shape because of using 1D array Push Broom or Whisk Broom scanning method. A special mechanism is required for a Hyperspectral Image Sensor to operate for nadir and slant range. To design the mechanism, the characteristics of the flight motion and the overlap rate between consecutive frames were analyzed. Also, system requirements were proposed through modeling and simulation.

  • We present the second data release from the SAMI Galaxy Survey. The data release contains reduced spectral cubes for 1559 galaxies, about 50% of the full survey, having a redshift range 0.004 < z < 0.113 and a large stellar mass range 7.5 < log($M_*/M_{\odot}$) < 11.6. This release also includes stellar kinematic and stellar population value-added products derived from absorption line measurements, and all emission line value-added products from Data Release One. The data are provided online through Australian Astronomical Optics' Data Central. Our poster presents stellar/gas kinematics on the metallicity-mass plane and highlight several galaxies from the SAMI Galaxy Survey that have interesting stellar and gas kinematics. • A signal processing technique is introduced in this paper in order to estimate the lengths of missile targets. To measure the length of a target, it is necessary to know the information on the target's location and aspect angle. Chirp waveforms and stretch processing are used to estimate the location and angle of a missile as well as HRRP(High Resolution Range Profile). RELAX(relaxation) algorithm, which is one of the spectral estimation techniques, were used to find scattering centers of a missile from HRRP. From the information on the distribution of one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers on a target, we can discriminate the length of a missile.

  • This paper introduces a signal processing technique for discrimination of ballistic missile's warhead. An interceptor missile to destroy the enemy's ballistic missile requires an information on the location of missile's warhead. In order to detect and locate the missile's warhead, a seeker radar in the interceptor missile makes use of chirp waveform to generate high resolution range profiles(HRRPs). We applied one of the well known spectral estimation technique called ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters by Rotational Invariance Technique) to these HRRPs to estimate scattering centers on the target. Using the information on the one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers, we can find the location of the warhead by estimating the length of the missile, Simulation results show that the proposed signal processing technique is efficient in discriminating the warhead of an ballistic missile.
