  • The inverse scattering problem is investigated for some second order differential equation with a nonlinear spectral parameter in the boundary condition on the half line [0, $\infty$). In the present paper the coefficient of spectral parameter is not a pure imaginary number and the boundary value problem is not selfadjoint. We define the scattering data of the problem, derive the main integral equation and show that the potential is uniquely recovered.

  • In the present study, the characteristics of spectral peakedness parameter $Q_p$, bandwidth parameter ${\varepsilon}$, and spectral width parameter ${\nu}$ were analyzed as a first step to define the swell waves quantitatively. For the analysis, the joint probability density function of significant wave heights and peak periods were newly developed. The MCMC(Markov Chain Monte Carlo) simulations have been performed to generate the significant wave heights and peak periods from the developed probability density functions. Applying the simulated significant wave heights and peak periods to the theoretical wave spectrum models, the spectral shapes parameters were obtained and analyzed. Among the spectral shape parameters, only the spectral peakedness parameter $Q_p$, is shown to be independent with the significant wave height and peak wave period. It also best represents the peakedness of the spectral shape, and henceforth $Q_p$ should be used to define the swell waves with a wave period. For the field verification of the results, wave data obtained from Hupo port and Ulleungdo were analyzed and results showed the same trend with the MCMC simulation results.

  • After using the filtering method, wave parameters are calculated by the spectral analysis and wave by wave analysis. Extreme environments and higher wave characteristics int he Chujeon Sea are analyzed using the observed wave data. Higher wave has been intensely emphasized as an important environmental force parameter in several recent research works. The aims of this study are to summarize the distribution of extreme environment for wind waves, and to find occurrence probability of higher wave in Chujeon Sea. Ocean wave statistics varying with sea state are found to respond linearly to the spectral peakedness parameter Qp, mean run-length and Ursell number. Although the spreading of the field results is large, it may be concluded that the tendency of wave group formation depends on the spectral peakedness parameter Qp. Extreme wave is estimated to apply various model distribution functions by using the monthly maximum significant wave parameters which can be used to the design and analysis of coastal structures.

  • LSF(Line Spectral Frequency) derived from LPC has known as a very useful transmission parameter of speech signals, for it has a good linear interpolation characteristics and a low spectrum distortion at low bit rates coding. This paper presents that it is possible to extract directly the formant frequencies of speech signals from LSF parameter without application of FFT algorithm by comparing the distribution of LSF parameter with the frequency distribution of analysis filter. This paper suggests the advanced algorithm that results in improving the speed of convergence at analytic solution method. Also, for the flexibility of parameters, the process that transforms from LSF to LPC is presented.

  • On the assumption that the spectral distribution of prompt fission neutrons released from supercritical accidents can be expressed by the generalized Cranberg form with two spectral parameters, which is then transformed into the single parameter form, a variation of the fission spectrum-averaged cross-sections for some threshold reactions with varying the spectral parameter has teen calculated using an electronic computer. It appears that the average cross-sections are very sensitive to the spectral deformation, especially those for the detectors having the threshold at high neutron energy are high compared to those for the detectors of which the threshold energies are comparatively low.

  • In analysing a time series on the frequency domain, the spectral estimator (or periodogram) is a very useful statistic to identify the periods of a time series. However, the spectral estimator is very sensitive in nature to outliers, so that the spectral estimator in terms of M-estimation has been studied by some researchers. Pak (2001) proposed an empirical method to choose a tuning parameter for the Huber's M-estimating function. In this article, we try to implement Pak's estimation proposal in the spectral estimator. We use the Korean housing price index as an example data set for comparing various M-estimating results.

  • In the past decades, various image regularization methods have been introduced. Among them, total variation model has drawn much attention for the reason of its low computational complexity and well-understood mathematical behavior. However, regularization parameter estimation of total variation model is still an open problem. To deal with this problem, a novel adaptive regularization parameter selection scheme is proposed in this paper, by means of using the local spectral response, which has the capability of locally selecting the regularization parameters in a content-aware way and therefore adaptively adjusting the weights between the two terms of the total variation model. Experiment results on simulated and real noisy image show the good performance of our proposed method, in visual improvement and peak signal to noise ratio value.

  • In many areas of speech signal processing such as automatic speech recognition and packet based voice communication technique, VAD (voice activity detection) plays an important role in the performance of the overall system. In this paper, we present a new feature parameter for VAD which is the product of energy of the signal and the difference of two types of entropies. For this end, we first define a Mel filter-bank based entropy and calculate its difference from the conventional entropy in frequency domain. The difference is then multiplied by the spectral energy of the signal to yield the final feature parameter which we call PEED (product of energy and entropy difference). Through experiments. we could verify that the proposed VAD parameter is more efficient than the conventional spectral entropy based parameter in various SNRs and noisy environments.

  • We introduce three spectral regularization methods for solving a backward heat conduction problem (BHCP). For the three spectral regularization methods, we give the stability error estimates with optimal order under an a-priori and an a-posteriori regularization parameter choice rule. Numerical results show that our theoretical results are effective.

  • The approximate overdetermined method is proposed for high resolution spectral estimation in case of short data record length or narrow band signal. And a new recursive AR parameter estimation is derived in the form of fast algorithm. For ARMA spectral estimation, two stage procedure is used in estimating ARMA parameters. First AR parameters are estimated by using the modified Yule-Walker equations, and then MA parameters are implicitly estimated by estimating numerator spectral(NS) coefficients.
