An acousto-optic tunable filter based 3-D micro surface profile measurement using an equally spaced 5 spectral phase shifting is described. The 5-bucket spectral phase shifting method is compared with a Fourier-transform method in the spectral domain. It can provide a fast measurement capability while maintaining high accuracy since it needs only 5 pieces of spectrally phase shifted imaging data and a simple calculation in comparison with the Fourier transform method that requires full wavelength scanning data and relatively complicated computation. The 3-D profile data of micro objects can be obtained in a few seconds with an accuracy of ${\sim}10nm$. The 3-D profile method also has an inherent benefit in terms of being speckle-free in measuring diffuse micro objects by employing an incoherent light source. Those simplicity and practical applicability is expected to have diverse applications in 3-D micro profilometry such as semiconductors and micro-biology.
This paper presents noisy speech recognition method based on spectral mapping techniques of speaker adaptation method. In the presented method, the spectral mapping training makes the spectral distortion of noisy speech reduced, and for the more correctively spectral mapping, let the adjustment window;s slope be adaptive to several word lengths. As a result of recognition experiment, the recognition rate is higher than that of the conventional method using VQ and DTW without noise processing. Even when SNR level is 0 dB, the recognition rate is 10 times more than that using the conventional method. It is confirmed that the speacker adaptation technique using the spectral mapping training has an ability to improve the recognition performance for noisy speech.
In this paper, we propose a single-channel speech enhancement method based on restoration of both spectral amplitudes and phases for PTT (Push-To-Talk) communication. The proposed method combines the spectral amplitude and phase enhancement to provide high-quality speech unlike other single-channel speech enhancement methods which only use spectral amplitudes. We carried out side-by-side comparison experiment in various non-stationary noise environments in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that the proposed method provides high quality speech better than other methods under different noise conditions.
One of the most important research areas on remote sensing is spectral unmixing of hyper-spectral data. For spectral unmixing of hyper spectral data, accurate land cover information is necessary. But obtaining accurate land cover information is difficult process. Obtaining land cover information from high-resolution data may be a useful solution. In this study spectral signature of endmembers on ASTER acquired in October was calculated from land cover information on IKONOS acquired in September. Then the spectral signature of endmembers applied to ASTER images acquired on January and March. Then the result of spectral unmxing of them evauateted. The spectral signatures of endmembers could be applied to different seasonal images. When it applied to an ASTER image which have similar zenith angle to the image of the spectral signatures of endmembers, spectral unmixing result was reliable. Although test data has different zenith angle from the image of spectral signatures of endmembers, the spectral unmixing results of urban and vegetation were reliable.

Several analytical procedures available in literature, for the evaluation of wind induced fatigue damage of structures, either assume the wide band random stress variations as narrow band random process or use correction factors along with narrow band assumption. This paper compares the correction factors obtained using the Rainflow Cycle (RFC) counting of the measured stress time histories on a lamp mast and a lattice tower, with those evaluated using different frequency domain methods available in literature. A Bi-modal spectral method has been formulated by idealising the single spectral moment method into two modes of background and resonant components, as considered in the gust response factor, for the evaluation of fatigue of slender structures subjected to "along-wind vibrations". A closed form approximation for the effective frequency of the background component has been developed. The simplicity and the accuracy of the new method have been illustrated through a case study by simulating stress time histories at the base of an urban light pole for different mean wind speeds. The correction factors obtained by the Bi-modal spectral method have been compared with those obtained from the simulated stress time histories using RFC counting method. The developed Bi-modal method is observed to be a simple and easy to use alternative to detailed time and frequency domain fatigue analyses without considerable computational and experimental efforts.

A spectral element method(SEM) is introduced for the vibration analysis of a rectangular plate subject to dynamic concentrated loads. First, the spectral plate element is derived from the relations between the forces and displacements along the two opposite edges of plate element. The global spectral matrix equation is then formulated by assembling two spectral plate elements so that the dynamic concentrated load is located at the connection nodal line between two plate elements. the concentrated load is then spatially Fourier transformed in the direction of the connection nodal line to transform the two-dimensional plate problem into a simplified equivalent one-dimensional beam-like problem. We may benefit from these procedures in that the spectral results from the present SEM is compared with the exact analytical solutions to prove the remarkable accuracy of the present SEM, while this is not true for conventional finite element solutions, especially at high frequency.

In this paper, a reduced-order modeling(ROM) of Burgers equations is studied based on pseudo-spectral collocation method. A ROM basis is obtained by the proper orthogonal decomposition(POD). Crank-Nicolson scheme is applied in time discretization and the pseudo-spectral element collocation method is adopted to solve linearlized equation based on the Newton method in spatial discretization. We deliver POD-based algorithm and present some numerical experiments to show the efficiency of our proposed method.

The approximate overdetermined method is proposed for high resolution spectral estimation in case of short data record length or narrow band signal. And a new recursive AR parameter estimation is derived in the form of fast algorithm. For ARMA spectral estimation, two stage procedure is used in estimating ARMA parameters. First AR parameters are estimated by using the modified Yule-Walker equations, and then MA parameters are implicitly estimated by estimating numerator spectral(NS) coefficients.
This paper proposes a novel spectral hole substitution technique for low bit-rate audio coding. The spectral holes frequently occurring in relatively weak energy bands due to zero bit quantization result in severe quality degradation, especially for harmonic signals such as speech vowels. The enhanced aacPlus (EAAC) audio codec artificially adjusts the minimum signal-to-mask ratio (SMR) to reduce the number of spectral holes, but it still produces noisy sound. The proposed method selectively predicts the spectral shapes of hole bands using either intra-band correlation, i.e. harmonically related coefficients nearby or inter-band correlation, i.e. previous frames. For the bands that have low prediction gain, only the energy term is quantized and spectral shapes are replaced by pseudo random values in the decoding stage. To minimize perceptual distortion caused by spectral mismatching, the criterion of the just noticeable level difference (JNLD) and spectral similarity between original and predicted shapes are adopted for quantizing the energy term. Simulation results show that the proposed method implemented into the EAAC baseline coder significantly improves speech quality at low bit-rates while keeping equivalent quality for mixed and music contents.

Spectral clustering has become one of the most popular clustering approaches in recent years. Similarity graph constructed on the data is one of the key factors that influence the performance of spectral clustering. However, the similarity graphs constructed by existing methods usually contain some unreliable edges. To construct reliable similarity graph for spectral clustering, an efficient method based on Markov random walk (MRW) is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, theMRW model is defined on the raw k-NN graph and the neighbors of each sample are determined by the probability of the MRW. Since the high order transition probabilities carry complex relationships among data, the neighbors in the graph determined by our proposed method are more reliable than those of the existing methods. Experiments are performed on the synthetic and real-world datasets for performance evaluation and comparison. The results show that the graph obtained by our proposed method reflects the structure of the data better than those of the state-of-the-art methods and can effectively improve the performance of spectral clustering.
