Open surface water body extraction is gaining popularity in recent years due to its versatile applications. Multiple techniques are used for water detection based on applications. Different applications of Radar as LADAR, Ground-penetrating, synthetic aperture, and sounding radars are used to detect water. Shortwave infrared, thermal, optical, and multi-spectral sensors are widely used to detect water bodies. A stereo camera is another way to detect water and different methods are applied to the images of stereo cameras such as deep learning, machine learning, polarization, color variations, and descriptors are used to segment water and no water areas. The Satellite is also used at a high level to get water imagery and the captured imagery is processed using various methods such as features extraction, thresholding, entropy-based, and machine learning to find water on the surface. In this paper, we have summarized all the available methods to detect water areas. The main focus of this survey is on water detection especially in small patches or in small areas. The second aim of this survey is to detect water hazards for unmanned vehicles and off-sure navigation.

We present results from our long-term observing campaign, using the NASA IRTF at Maunakea, to obtain 2 - 4 ㎛ spectra of 118 red point sources in the line of sight to the Galactic Center (GC). Our sample is largely composed of point sources selected from near- and mid-infrared photometry, but also includes a number of massive young stellar objects. Many of these sources show high foreground extinction as shown by deep 3.4 ㎛ aliphatic hydrocarbon absorption feature, which is a characteristic of the diffuse ISM and comes from the long line of sight through the diffuse medium toward the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ), the central 300 pc region of the GC. The deep 3.1 ㎛ H2O ice absorption band coming from the local, dense material in the GC CMZ suggests that most sources are likely located in the GC CMZ. A few of these sources show weak CCH3OH ice absorption at 3.535 ㎛, which can provide a strong constraint on the CCH3OH ice formation in the unique environment of the CMZ. From the best-fitting models, the optical depths of these features are determined and used to generate a well-rounded view of the ice composition across the GC CMZ and the spectral characteristics of massive YSOs in the GC.

The object of this study is to detect of land-cover change in western DMZ and vicinity. This was performed as a basic study to construct a decision support system for the conservation or a sustainable development of the DMZ and Vicinity near future. DMZ is an is 4km wide and 250km long and it's one of the most highly fortified boundaries in the world and also a unique thin green line. Environmentalists want to declare the DMZ as a natural reserve and a biodiversity zone, but nowadays through the strengthening of the inter-Korean economic cooperation, some developers are trying to construct a new-town or an industrial complex inside of the DMZ. This study investigates the current environmental conditions, especially deforestation of the western DMZ adopting remote sensing and GIS techniques. The Land-covers were identified through the linear spectvral mixture analysis(LSMA) which was used to handle the spectral mixture problem of low spatial resolution imagery of Landsat TM and ETM+ imagery. To analyze quantitative and spatial change of vegetation-cover in western DMZ, GIS overlay method was used. In LSMA, to develop high-quality fraction images, three endmembers of green vegetation(GV), soil, water were driven from pure features in the imagery. Through 15 years, from 1987 to 2002, forest of western DMZ and vicinity was devastated and changed to urban, farmland or barren land. Northern part of western DMZ and vicinity was more deforested than that of southern part. ($52.37km^2$ of North Korean forest and $39.04km^2$ of South Korean were change to other land-covers.) In case of North Korean part, forest changed to barren land and farmland and in South Korean part, forest changed to farmland and urban area. Especially, In North Korean part of DMZ and vicinity, $56.15km^2$ of farmland changed to barren land through 15 years, which showed the failure of the 'Darakbat' (terrace filed) project which is one of food increase projects in North Korea.
The Haenam epithermal mineralized zone is located in the southwestern part of South Korea, and hosts low sulfidation epithermal Au-Ag deposit (Eunsan-Moisan) and clay quarries (Okmaesan, Seongsan, and Chunsan). Epithermal deposits and accompanying hydrothermal alteration related to Cretaceous volcanism caused large zoned assemblages of hydrothermal alteration minerals. Advanced argillic-altered rocks with mineral assemblages of alunite-quartz, alunite-dickite-quartz, and dickite-kaolinite-quartz exposed on the Okmaesan, Seongsan, and Chunsan area. Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), with three visible and near infrared bands, six shortwave infrared bands, and five thermal infrared bands, was used to identify advanced argillic-altered rocks within the Haenam epithermal mineralized zone. The distinct spectral features of hydrothermal minerals allow discrimination of advanced argillic-altered rocks from non-altered rocks within the study area. Because alunite, dickite, and kaolinite, consisting of advanced argillic-altered rocks within the study area are characterized by Al-O-H-bearing minerals, these acid hydrothermal minerals have a strong absorption feature at $2.20{\mu}m$. The band combination and band ratio transformation cause increasing differences of DN values between advanced argillic-altered rock and non-altered rock. The alunite and dickite-kaolinite of advanced argillic-altered rocks from the Okmaesan, Seongsan, and Chunsan have average DN values of 1.523 and 1.737, respectively. These values are much higher than those (1.211 and 1.308, respectively) of non-altered area. ASTER images can remotely provide the distribution of hydrothermal minerals on the surface. In this way good relation between ASTER spectra analysis and field data suggests that ASTER spectral analysis can be useful tool in the initial steps of mineral exploration.

It is necessary to manage, forecast and prepare agricultural production based on accurate and up-to-date information in order to cope with the climate change and its impacts such as global warming, floods and droughts. This study examined the applicability as well as challenges of the object-based image analysis method for developing a land cover image classification algorithm, which can support the fast thematic mapping of wide agricultural areas on a regional scale. In order to test the applicability of RapidEye's multi-temporal spectral information for differentiating agricultural land cover types, the integration of other GIS data was minimized. Under this circumstance, the land cover classification accuracy at the study area of Kimje ($1300km^2$) was 80.3%. The geometric resolution of RapidEye, 6.5m showed the possibility to derive the spatial features of agricultural land use generally cultivated on a small scale in Korea. The object-based image analysis method can realize the expert knowledge in various ways during the classification process, so that the application of spectral image information can be optimized. An additional advantage is that the already developed classification algorithm can be stored, edited with variables in detail with regard to analytical purpose, and may be applied to other images as well as other regions. However, the segmentation process, which is fundamental for the object-based image classification, often cannot be explained quantitatively. Therefore, it is necessary to draw the best results based on expert's empirical and scientific knowledge.

The slow evolution of global magnetic fields and other dynamical processes in atmospheres of CP magnetic stars lead to the development of induced electric currents in all conductive atmospheric layers. The Lorentz force, which results from the interaction between a magnetic field and the induced currents, may modify the atmospheric structure and provide insight into the formation and evolution of stellar magnetic fields. This modification of the pressure-temperature structure influences the formation of absorption spectral features producing characteristic rotational variability of some spectral lines, especially the Balmer lines (Valyavin et al., 2004 and references therein). In order to study these theoretical predictions we began systematic spectroscopic survey of Balmer line variability in spectra of brightest CP magnetic stars. Here we present the first results of the program. A0p star $\Theta$ Aur revealed significant variability of the Balmer profiles during the star's rotation. Character of this variablity corresponds to that classified by Kroll (1989) as a result of an impact of significant Lorentz force. From the obtained data we estimate that amplitudes of the variation at H$\alpha$, H$\beta$, H$\gamma$ and H$\delta$ profiles reach up to $2.4\%$during full rotation cycle of the star. Using computation of our model atmospheres (Valyavin et al., 2004) we interpret these data within the framework of the simplest model of the evolution of global magnetic fields in chemically peculiar stars. Assuming that the field is represented by a dipole, we estimate the characteristic e.m.f. induced by the field decay electric current (and the Lorentz force as the result) on the order of $E {\~} 10^{-11}$ cgs units, which may indicate very fast (< < $10^{10}$ years) evolution rate of the field. This result strongly contradicts the theoretical point of view that global stellar magnetic fields of CP stars are fossil and their the characteristic decay time of about $10^{10}$ yr. Alternatively, we briefly discuss concurring effects (like the ambipolar diffusion) which may also lead to significant atmospheric currents producing the observable Lorentz force.

In this study, empirical site amplifications and S-wave velocity profiles for shallow and deep soils are estimated using earthquake ground motion records in metropolitan Manila, the Philippines. We first apply a spectral inversion technique to the earthquake records to estimate effects of source, path, and local site amplification. The earthquake data used were obtained during 36 moderate earthquakes at 10 strong-motion stations of an earthquake observation network in Manila. The estimated Q value of the propagation path is modelled as $54.6f^{1.1}$. Most of the source spectra can be approximated with the omega-square model. The site amplifications show characteristic features according to surface geological conditions. The amplifications at the sites in the coastal lowland and Marikina Valley shows predominant peaks at frequencies from 1 to 5 Hz, while those in the central plateau are characterised by no dominant peaks. These site amplifications are inverted to subsurface S-wave velocity. We, next, discuss the relationship between the amplifications and average S-wave velocity in the top 30m of the S-wave velocity profiles. The amplifications at low frequencies are well correlated with the averaged S-wave velocity. However, high-frequency amplifications cannot be sufficiently explained by the averaged S-wave velocity in the top 30 m. They are correlated more with the average of S-wave velocity over depths less than 30 m.
The satellite-based red tide detection algorithms have been developed for specific occurrence waters and red tide species. However, it is essential to study the whole occurrence waters and various red tide species for quick and accurate surveillance of red tide around the Korean coastal waters. In thisstudy, the comprehensive analysesinvolve the spectral features of red tide areas and the suitability of the satellite-based red tide detection algorithms used with GOCI in the Korean coastal waters. As a result, the spectral characteristics were changed according to the chlorophyll content of red tide species and the turbidity of the waters where the red tide appeared. In addition, the previous red tide detection algorithm is applied to GOCI, and it is found that there is a limitation to the red tide area extraction as the existing threshold value. To overcome these limitations, red tide species were divided into two groups according to the difference of chlorophyll content and a system for red tide surveillance wassuggested. It is possible to distinguish between red tide and non-red tide area through five steps. As a result of applying to GOCI, the red tide was appropriately extracted from the previous algorithm based on red tide breaking news. If such a red tide surveillance system is used, it will be possible to efficiently monitor red tide by quick and accurate surveillance of the whole occurrence waters around the Korean and various red tide species.
This paper compares the recognition performances of feature vectors known to be robust to the environmental noise. And, the speech subtraction technique is combined with the noise robust feature to get more performance enhancement. The experiments using SMC(Short time Modified Coherence) analysis, root cepstral analysis, LDA(Linear Discriminant Analysis), PLP(Perceptual Linear Prediction), RASTA(RelAtive SpecTrAl) processing are carried out. An isolated word recognition system is composed using semi-continuous HMM. Noisy environment experiments usign two types of noises:exhibition hall, computer room are carried out at 0, 10, 20dB SNRs. The experimental result shows that SMC and root based mel cepstrum(root_mel cepstrum) show 9.86% and 12.68% recognition enhancement at 10dB in compare to the LPCC(Linear Prediction Cepstral Coefficient). And when combined with spectral subtraction, mel cepstrum and root_mel cepstrum show 16.7% and 8.4% enhanced recognition rate of 94.91% and 94.28% at 10dB.
The land cover map derived from spectral features of high resolution optical images has low spectral resolution and heterogeneity in the same land cover class. For this reason, despite the same land cover class, the land cover can be classified into various land cover classes especially in vegetation area. In order to overcome these problems, detailed vegetation classification is applied to optical satellite image and SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) integrated data in vegetation area which is the result of pre-classification from optical image. The pre-classification and vegetation classification were performed with MLC(Maximum Likelihood Classification) method. The hierarchical land cover classification was proposed from fusion of detailed vegetation classes and non-vegetation classes of pre-classification. We can verify the facts that the proposed method has higher accuracy than not only general SAR data and GLCM(Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix) texture integrated methods but also hierarchical GLCM integrated method. Especially the proposed method has high accuracy with respect to both vegetation and non-vegetation classification.
