  • In this work, the correlation between the PD Patterns and the electrical tree propagation has been investigated by use of the specimen removed from the insulation of the real 154 kV XLPE underground power cables. As a result, it could be deduced that the PD pattern regarding electrical trees depends on their type which could be classified into three different distinct groups such as branch-bush mixed. Considering the results of our investigation, if the partial discharge magnitude is only considered for the diagnosis of the cable system, it is possible to draw a wrong decision. Therefore, it is possible to propose that the time characteristics of PD pattern should be taken into account for the diagnosis of the cable system in addition to the conventional $\Phi$-q-n characteristics.

  • This study was conducted to observe the condition of the ramifications of the bronchus and pulmonary blood vascular system by injecting the vinylite into the bronchial tree and pulmonary blood vessels in 100 normal adult dogs. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. Lungs of dog were composed of the same pulmonary territories as in lungs of human. 2. Cardiac lobe corresponding to R.medio-bassalis of human lungs was well developed and situated as a independent cardiac lobe, in ventral side of right lung. 3. Bronchial tree were in the patterns of axial divergency and blood vascular systems were (in general) branched along the bronchial tree, arteries lying near the bronchial tree but veins apart from it. 4. Among the branching patterns of bronchus pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein in each lobe, the type presented most frequently were noted, which were designated basic type by the author. 5. Pulmonary blood vessels were not always branched in accordance with bronchial tree, diverged inmore complex patterns, especially in venous vascular system. 6. Ramus anterior (lobe apicalis) was always observed in all casting specimen. 7. There was a case of peculiar variation patterns of the ramification in the bronchi directing into the left apical and cardiac lobe, arose respectivelly, at independent origin of bifurcation in the left bronchial stem, and a case of peculiar variation pattern of the artery entering left apical lobe and cardiac lobe, had a same origin of the bifurcation at rami pulmonary artery, and then divided respectivelly into the rami medi artery and rami left apical lobe artery. 8. In the classification based on the patterns of bronchial and blood vasculor divergencys, there were a lot of significant combination cases in their patterns.

  • We encountered an unfamiliar ascomycete fruiting body, fitting characteristics of the genus Kretzschmaria, which features in a stipitate ascigerous stroma with carbonaceous interior and disintegrating perithecia. In this study, we report and characterize a new species of the decaying fungus. Compared to other species, one of the notable features of this specimen (TPML150908-046) is its stromatal size (up to 15 cm). Although TPML150908-046 is morphologically similar to K. milleri and K. sandvicensis, it differs sharply from both species in apical ring size (TPML150908-046, $6.5{\sim}10.5{\mu}m$; K. milleri, $11{\sim}16{\mu}m$) and ascospore width (TPML150908-046, $10.5{\sim}17{\mu}m$; K. sandvicensis, $8.5~11.5{\mu}m$). Phylogenetic trees based on ${\beta}$-tubulin, ITS, and RPB2 sequences showed that our collection clustered with K. sandvicensis, with the respective similarities for these sequences being 95.6%, 91.3%, and 97.7%, signifying it as another species. With these results, we report it as a new species, which we call Kretzschmaria quercicola sp. nov.

  • For evaluation of immune stimulation effect of lacquer tree extracts, lymphocytes were counted by labeling of FITC-conjugated monoclonal antibody in the pheripheral blood of pigs that fed with a fodder supplemented by lacquer tree extracts. Populations of MHC-II+, CD4+, and CD8+T lymphocytes were increased more than 2% level after 1 week feed supply of the lacquer tree extracts. The increase of those T cells reached at maximum level after 2 weeks in the tested group. B lympyocytes with surface IgM were increased 5% after 1 week feed supply of the lacquer tree extracts, and their numbers reached maximum after 2 weeks in the tested group. For the assessment of cytotoxicity of the lacquer tree extracts, morphological changes were examined on the epithelial cells of small intestine from pigs fed with a fodder supplemented by 0.1 % lacquer tree extracts for 6 weeks (the tested group). Thin-sectioned tissue of small intestine was fixed with glutaraldehyde, then coated with gold particles, and the specimen was examined under scanning electron microscope. The villi on the mucus membrane of jejunum and ileum from the tested pigswere enlarged on the tip and were linked each other.

  • In our country there are five species of Morus genus including Morus alba L.. Also their varieties and hybrids are distributed so much. In sucession of previous report we collected control and marketing specimens of Mori Cortex Radicis, comparative experiments were pharmacognostically carried out to identify the control specimen by the differences of external and internal morphology. It was difficult to identify marketing specimens by external morphology, because they are similar in spite of conparating with control specimen which the origin is definite. In internal morphology, medullary ray is developed near the cambium to primary bark in control specimen A(Morus alba series) and C(M. Lhou series), but less developed in B(M. bombycis series). The difference of these three series was observed. The thickness of cork layer is almost the same($7{\sim}12$ layers) in A and C series, but B is thin layer and sample E(that on the market) is generally more thick and has a stick cork cell. The kinds of starch, Ca-oxalate and latex, cell centents were same, but it was easy to identify them by the differences of their distribution. The bast fibre of D(wild specimen) and E were light lignified, latex tube of A and C series was richer distributed than others. These results show that the origin of Mori Cortex Radicis on the market can be appreciated in four groups of Korean Morus genus which are M. alba, M. bambycis, M. Lhou series and the others.

  • Electrical tree structure is one of the most important influencing factors for electrical treeing characteristics in polymers. In this paper, we focused on the structure characteristics of electrical treeing in epoxy resins (original) insulation under different high-frequency voltages (60, 500, 1000Hz). Effects of voltage frequency on the ac electrical treeing phenomena in an epoxy resins were carried out in needle-plate electrode arrangement. To measure the treeing initiation and propagation, and the breakdown rate, constant AC of 10 kV with three different voltage frequencies (60, 500 and 1,000 Hz) was applied to the specimen in needle-plate electrode specimen at $30^{\circ}C$ of insulating oil bath. At 60 Hz, the treeing initiation time was 360 min and the propagation rate was $6.85{\times}10^{-4}mm/min$, and the morphology was dense branch type. As the voltage frequency increased, the treeing initiation time decreased and the propagation rate increased. At 1,000 Hz, the treeing initiation time was 0 min and the propagation rate was $7.81{\times}10^{-2}mm/min$, and the morphology was dense bush type.

  • A green alga specimen was collected from the eastern coast of Korea. This species shared the typical features of genus Ulva and was characterized by irregularly shaped thalli, relatively small and thick thallus, entire undulate margins without serrations, and one or two pyrenoids per cell. In a phylogenetic tree, based on sequences of the nuclear-encoded internal transcribed spacer region, it nests as a sister clade to a few species including Ulva ohnoi, which has a relatively large thallus. This Korean algal specimen differs from the species forming the same subclades, including U. ohnoi, Ulva fasciata, Ulva reticulata, and Ulva gigantean, and has a relatively small (3-8 cm) and thick (60-100 ㎛) thallus. Of these species, U. ohnoi, originally described from Japan, is similar to the Korean alga as it had a thick thallus of 30-90 ㎛, but it has microscopic serrations on the thallus margin, unlike the Korean alga. The genetic distance between the Korean alga species and the aforementioned species was determined to be 1.8%-4.8%, indicating an inter-specific divergence level at the genus Ulva. Herein, Ulva grossa sp. nov. (Ulvales, Chlorophyta) from Korea is described based on the morphological and molecular analyses.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal sound absorption conditions by comparing the sound absorption characteristics of fresh and air-dried leaves of Quercus glauca, the main species of evergreen broadleaf trees (EBLT) in southern Korea. The sound absorption coefficients (SACs) obtained under 18 conditions were comparatively analyzed. The SAC of air-dried leaves improved significantly with increasing leaf layer thickness. The highest average SAC in the fresh leaf group was 0.617, which was observed under the condition of a leaf specimen size of 0.5 × 0.5 cm2 and a leaf layer thickness of 1.75 cm. In a group of air-dried leaves, this was 0.615 under the condition of a leaf specimen size of 0.5 × 0.5 cm2 and a leaf layer thickness of 2.50 cm. The maximum value of SAC for each wavelength was observed under the condition of a leaf layer thickness of 2.50 cm consisting of 0.5 × 0.5 cm2 leaf specimens, ranging from 1,400 Hz to 1,500 Hz.
