In this study, humidity control ceramics with good adsorption/desorption capabilities and high strength were fabricated from drinking-water treatment sludge (DWTS) and Onggi soil. The DWTS powder heat-treated at $800^{\circ}C$ and Onggi soil were mixed at weight ratios of 40:60, 50:50, 60:40, and 70:30 and fired at $800-1000^{\circ}C$. With increasing DWTS content, density and flexural strength increased. For the sample with a DWTS:Onggi soil weight ratio of 70:30, porosity and specific surface area decreased with increasing firing temperature, attributed to densification and grain growth at high firing temperatures. From the results obtained, a firing temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ is the optimum condition for fabricating humidity control ceramics with good adsorption/desorption capabilities and strength. The maximum adsorbed amount for the sample fired at $800^{\circ}C$ was $439g/m^2$.
In electric cable industries, the curing extent of the rubber materials covering the electric cores gives an significant effect on their final performance. The curing extent of rubber is controlled mostly by pull-out velocity of cable in the extrusion process. The final curing extent may be different for different radial positions inside the rubber because of the non-uniform temperature distributions during the curing process. In this contribution, the prediction of curing extent distribution throughout the radial direction of rubber is represented when the cable is passing through the steam curing zone with a fixed pull-out velocity. The prediction of the optimum pull-out velocity for the desired curing extent distribution is also reported. The steady-state heat balance was developed for the curing and cooling processes in which the pull-out rubber was cured by high temperature steam and then cooled by ambient water. A few essential material properties such as density, specific heat, and thermal conductivity were measured to analyze the temperature distribution during the curing and cooling processes. The times to reach 90% curing extent at varying temperatures were measured and used to determine the final cure extent distribution inside the rubber.
The major drawback of zirconia-based materials, in view of their applications as targets for minor actinide transmutation, is their poor thermal conductivity. The addition of MgO, which has high thermal conductivity, to zirconia-based materials is expected to improve their thermal conductivity. On these grounds, the present study aims at phase characterization and thermophysical property evaluation of neodymium-substituted zirconia (Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9; using Nd2O3 as a surrogate for Am2O3) and its composites with MgO. The composite was prepared by a solid-state reaction of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9 (synthesized by gel combustion) and commercial MgO powders at 1773 K. Phase characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction and the microstructural investigation was performed using a scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy. The linear thermal expansion coefficient of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9 increases upon composite formation with MgO, which is attributed to a higher thermal expansivity of MgO. Similarly, specific heat also increases with the addition of MgO to Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9. Thermal conductivity was calculated from measured thermal diffusivity, temperature-dependent density and specific heat values. Thermal conductivity of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9-MgO (50 wt%) composite is more than that of typical UO2 fuel, supporting the potential of Zr0.8Nd0.2O1.9-MgO composites as target materials for minor actinides transmutation.

Elastic-plastic structural analysis for regenerative cooling chamber of gas generator was performed. Uniaxial tension test was conducted for STS316L at room and high temperature conditions to get the material data necessary for the structural analysis of the chamber which was operated under thermal load and high internal pressure. Physical properties including thermal conductivity, specific heat and thermal expansion were also measured. The structural analysis for four different types of regenerative cooling chamber of gas generator revealed that increased cooling performance decreased the thermal load and strain of the cooling channel structure. The results propose that in order for the regenerative cooling gas generator chamber to have high structural stability with endurance to high mechanical and thermal loads, it is important for the chamber to be designed to have high cooling performance.

Because of beautiful glossy and color, the value of gold leverage is very high in Europe. To improve the quality of gold alloys, we performed heat treatment on 14 K white gold alloys by variously changing age-hardening conditions. Age-hardening behavior and the related phase transformation changes were studied to elucidate the hardening mechanism of 14 K white gold alloy. For solid solution treatment [ST], casted gold alloy specimens were treated at high temperature ($750^{\circ}C$) for 30 minutes, and the specimens dropped to water to quench them. For Age-hardening treatment [AT], the specimens were treated at various temperatures ($250{\sim}300^{\circ}C$). After the heat treatment, we observed the phenomenon to increase hardness from 126 Hv to 166 Hv by Vicker's hardness tester. Through electron probe micro-analysis (EPMA) mapping analysis, we investigated that irregular particles were changed uniformly. In the SEM and OM images, two phases of matrix and particle-likestructures were observed, and the precipitation of these elements from the matrix progressed during age-hardening. By transmission electron microscope and X-ray diffraction observation, it was revealed that the formation of the Au3Cu superstructure contributed to the age-hardening at $270^{\circ}C$ in the gold alloy. After the heat treatment, this analysis shows that casted gold alloys were to improve hardness and to moderate surface defects at specific temperatures and duration.

Titanium and titanium alloy can be reproduced immediately even if oxide films($TiO_2$) break apart in sea water. Therefore, since titanium demonstrates large specific strength and outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice corrosion, pitting and microbiologically influenced corrosion in sea water environment, it has been widely applied to heat exchanger for ships. In particular, with excellent elongation, pure titanium may be deemed as optimal material for production of heat exchanger plate which is used with wrinkles formed for efficient heat exchange. Conventional plate type heat exchanger prevented leakage of liquid through insertion of gasket between plates and mechanical tightening by bolts and nuts, but in high temperature and high pressure environment, gasket deterioration and leakage occur, so heat exchanger for LPG re-liquefaction device etc do not use gasket but weld heat exchanger plate for use. On the other hand, since welded plate cannot be separated, it is important to obtain high quality reliable welds. In addition, for better workability and production performance, lasers that can obtain weldment with large aspect ratio and demonstrate fast welding speed even in atmospheric condition not in vacuum condition are used in producing products. So far, 1st report and 2nd report compared and analyzed embrittlement degrees by bead colors of weldment through quantitative analysis of oxygen and nitrogen and measurement of hardness as fundamental experiment for the evaluation of titanium laser welding, and evaluated the welding performance and mechanical properties of butt welding. This study welded specimens in various conditions by using laser and GTA welding machine to apply edge welding to heat exchanger, and evaluated the mechanical strength through tensile stress test. As a result of tensile test, laser weldment demonstrated tensile strength 4 times higher than GTA welds, and porosity could be controlled by increasing and decreasing slope of laser power at overlap area.

A performance analysis of the regenerative gas turbine system with afterfogging is carried out. Because of the high temperature at the outlet of air compressor, afterfogging has a potential of improved recuperation of exhaust heat than inlet fogging. Thermodynamic analysis model of the gas turbine system is developed by using an ideal gas assumption. Using the model, the effects of pressure ratio, water injection ratio, and ambient temperature are investigated parametrically on thermal efficiency and specific power of the cycle. The dependency of pressure ratio giving peak thermal efficiency is also investigated. The results of numerical computation for the typical cases show that the regenerative gas turbine system with afterfogging can make a notable enhancement of thermal efficiency and specific power. In addition, the peak thermal efficiency is shown to decrease almost linearly with ambient temperature.

Metal matrix composites had generated a lot of interest in recent time because of their high specific strength and stiffness in specific properties. It was also highlighted as the material of frontier industry because strength, heat-resistance, corrosion-resistance and wear-resistance were superiored. In this study, the strength properties of $Al_{18}B_{4}O_{33}$/AC4CH composites were represented mixing the binder of $SiO_2$. It was also fabricated by squeeze casting. $Al_{18}B_{4}O_{33}$/AC4CH was fabricated at the melt temperature of $760^{\circ}C$, the perform temperature of $700^{\circ}C$ and mold temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ under the pressure of 83.4MPa. Consequently, fatigue life was observed roughly in the order of AC4CH> nobiner> $SiO_2$, independently on crack propagation direction and stress ratio.

Purpose: To improve glasses temple's insert processibility of CA/PEG blend, triacetin with higher specific heat values in the processing temperature range is used as second plasticizer. Methods: The total amount of plasticizer is fixed at 30 wt% by CA. To determine optimal CA/PEG/triacetin blend for glasses frame, blends with different composition ratio were examined by various analysis: thermal properties, mechanical properties, glossiness. Results: Specific heat of the CA/PEG blend increased as the content of triacetin. In CA/PEG/triacetin blends, as triacetin concentration is increased, glass transition temperature is decreased and heat conservation rate of composites is increased. Furthermore, CA/PEG/triacetin blend exhibited higher mechanical properties and similar gloss characterization with CA/PEG blend. Conclusions: It is possible to improve the processibility inserting metal support to CA temple through varying the weight ratio of PEG/triacetin. The extruded sheets of CA/PEG/triacetin blend had better glossiness and mechanical properties than those of CA/PEG blend.
