  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate activities-specific balance confidence and risk of fallings among rehabilitation patients with impaired of mobility, and to identify the influence of activities-specific balance confidence on their risk of fallings. Method: Data for 132 rehabilitation patients were collected between October June 20 and August 20, 2012 at nine hospitals in a metropolitan city. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 20.0. Result: The mean score for rehabilitation patients' activities-specific balance confidence was 40.18 out of a possible range of 0-100 and the mean score for risk of fallings among rehabilitation patients was 31.10 within a possible range of 0-125. Significant factors affecting the risk of fallings among the rehabilitation patients were 'activity level', 'dementia', 'body mass index', 'anxiety', and 'presence of a caregiver', which together explained 34.7% of the variance. The most significantly factor influencing rehabilitation patients' risk of fallings was activities-specific balance confidence which explained 23.5% of the variance. Conclusion: The study results indicate that activities-specific balance confidence as well as physical factors should be considered for interventions to decrease risk of fallings in rehabilitation patients with impaired mobility.

  • An analysis has been performed on the specific impulse for a liquid rocket engine of gas generator cycle. The present analysis method has been validated through the comparison of the optimal specific impulse for the 300t thrust conceptual engine against the published data. The engine specific impulse can be increased by applying film coolant decreasing the fuel pump head for regenerative cooling despite the decrease of specific impulse of the combustion chamber when the film coolant participates combustion more than the critical amount. The improved condition shows that higher combustion chamber pressure is achieved with less fuel pump head rise by additional film cooling.

  • The correlation between hydrologic performance design parameters of small hydro power(SHP) sites and rainfall condition have been analyzed for major river systems. The model, which can predict flow duration characteristic of stream, was developed to estimate the inflow caused from rainfall. And another model to predict hydrologic performance for SHP plants is established. Based on the models developed in this study, the hydrologic performance characteristics for SHP sites have been analyzed. The results show that the hydrologic performance characteristics of SHP sites have some difference between the river systems. Especially, the specific design flowrate and specific output of SHP sites located on North Han river and Nakdong river systems have large difference compared with other river systems. It was found that the hydrologic performance design parameters such as specific design flowrate and specific output were affected by rainfall condition in basin area of SHP sites.

  • Stratum-specific likelihood ratio, which is ratio of the sensitivity to 1-the specificity in each stratum of the test, could be biased if the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic test are affected by verification bias. Therefore, the optimal cutoff point determined by biased stratum-specific likelihood ratios is incorrect. In this study, we derived adjusted stratum-specific likelihood ratios using the adjusted sensitivity and specificity, and obtained the adjusted optimal cutoff point. The influence of the verification bias on the optimal cutoff point was described through the relation between adjusted and unadjusted stratum-specific likelihood ratios.

  • Genus specific antigenicity of the 10 kDa protein in cyst fluid (CF) of Taenia solium metacestodes was demonstrated by comparative immunoblot analysis. When CFs from taeniid metacestodes of T. saginata, T. solium, T. taeniaeformis and T. crassiceps were probed with specific monoclonal antibody (mAb) raised against 150 kDa protein of T. solium metacestodes, specific antibody reactions were observed in 7 and 10 kDa proteins of T. solium and in 7/8 kDa of T. saginata, T. taeniaeformis and T. crasiceps. The mAb did not react with any protein in hydatid fluid of Echinococcus granulosus and E. multilocularis. This result revealed that the 10 kDa peptide of T. solium metacestodes and its equivalent proteins of different Taenia metacestodes are genus specific antigens that are shared among different Taenia species.

  • An analysis program of specific impulse has been developed for a gas generator cycle rocket engine. The program has been verified by comparing the published performance data of the same cycle engine with RP-1 as fuel. A model for pressure drop of regenerative cooling and film cooling mass flow rate has been suggested to satisfy the necessary cooling condition with Jet-A1 as fuel. The engine mixture ratio is defined by the film cooling mass flow rate and the core mixture ratio. The optimal condition of the combustor pressure and engine mixture ratio has been found for maximum specific impulse.

  • Decision class analysis (DCA) is viewed as a classification problem where a set of input data (situation-specific knowledge) and output data (a topological leveled influence diagram (ID)) is given. Situation-specific knowledge is usually given from a decision maker (DM) with the help of domain expert(s). But it is not easy for the DM to know the situation-specific knowledge of decision problem exactly. This paper presents a methodology fur sensitivity analysis of DCA under incomplete information. The purpose of sensitivity analysis in DCA is to identify the effects of incomplete situation-specific frames whose uncertainty affects the importance of each variable in the resulting model. For such a purpose, our suggested methodology consists of two procedures: generative procedure and adaptive procedure. An interactive procedure is also suggested based the sensitivity analysis to build a well-formed ID. These procedures are formally explained and illustrated with a raw material purchasing problem.

  • The polyene antibiotics are a family of most promising antifungal polyketide compounds, typically produced by actinomycetes species. Using the polyene CYP-specific PCR screening with served actinomycetes genomic DNAs, Pseudonocardia autotrophica strain was identified to contain a unique polyene-specific CYP gene. The genomic DNA library screening using the polyene-specific CYP gene probe revealed the positive cosmid clone containing an approximately 34.5 kb DNA fragment revealed a total of seven complete and two incomplete open reading frame (ORFs), which are highly homologous but unique to previously-known polyene biosynthetic genes. These results suggest that the polyene-specific screening approach should be an efficient way of isolating potectially-valuable cryptic polyene biosynthetic gene cluster from various rare actinomycetes.

  • A major problem with the peptide-based drugs is that these drugs must generally be administered by injection. Therefore, there is considerable research interest in alternative routes of delivery, such as buccal, nasal, gastrointestinal route and etc. Site-specific drug delivery to the colon, as an alternative to parenteral drug delivery, is of interest for the delivery of peptide-based drugs as well as the delivery of low molecular weight drugs for the treatment of colonic disease, This review describes some considerations of colon-specific drug delivery using hydrogels.

  • In this study, chip-tool friction and shear characteristics of cold drawn free machining steels in turning were assessed. To do this, a newly developed equivalent oblique cutting model was adopted. And for comparison with those of free machining steels, chip-tool friction and shear characteristics of conventional carbon steels were also investigated. The Pb-S free machining steel shows superior machinability to others. In case of the Bi-S free machining steel, the shear stress and the specific friction energy are relatively lower than those of conventional carbon steels, but its shear strain is relatively high, so it does not show any remarkable improvement of machinability.
