The Simulation and Forecast Model for Human Resources of Semiconductor Wafer Fab Operation

  • The efficiency of fabrication (fab) operation is one of the key factors in order for a semiconductor manufacturing company to stay competitive. Optimization of manpower and forecasting manpower needs in a modern fab is an essential part of the future strategic planing and a very important to the operational efficiency. As the semiconductor manufacturing technology has entered the 8-inch wafer era, the complexity of fab operation increases with the increase of wafer size. The wafer handling method has evolved from manual mode in 6-inch wafer fab to semi-automated or fully automated factory in 8-inch and 12-inch wafer fab. The distribution of manpower requirement in each specialty varied as the trend of fab operation goes for downsizing manpower with automation and outsourcing maintenance work. This paper is to study the specialty distribution of manpower from the requirement in a typical 6-inch, 8-inch to 12-inch wafer fab. The human resource planning in today’s fab operation shall consider many factors, which include the stability of technical talents. This empirical study mainly focuses on the human resource planning, the manpower distribution of specialty structure and the forecast model of internal demand/supply in current semiconductor manufacturing company. Considering the market fluctuation with the demand of varied products and the advance in process technology, the study is to design a headcount forecast model based on current manpower planning for direct labour (DL) and indirect labour (IDL) in Taiwan’s fab. The model can be used to forecast the future manpower requirement on each specialty for the strategic planning of human resource to serve the development of the industry.

  • The recent plant order of oversea in domestic engineering and Construction Companies have been growing since 2003. In 2006, the total order came out 2.54 billion dollar. And in a quarter of 2007, the Ministry of Commerce announced that total order already came out 900 million dollar. They expect that the plant industry in the global market will be grown more in near future. However, even though there is growing plant businesses in oversea specially focused on the Middle East area, the domestic large engineering and Construction Company now face up the shortage of specialty manpower. Moreover, the domestic small and medium enterprises have same problems as large companies have. The plant construction industry is expanding rapidly, but the supply of specialty manpower can not follow its growing business. Also, most new supplied manpower is the person who graduated recently and received the degree in the different civil engineering track other than the plant major track, they are required to be re-educated. So, it is unable to deploy in short time. Also, there is shortage of manpower in the Construction Management financing division. Consequently, this project will study the efficient method of training for specialty manpower, provide the solutions.

  • The spreading of internet, combined with the computerization of industry and the life whole has created an incereased demand on the private life protection and information portection, but due to the lack of specialty manpower on the information protection industry field there are many difficulties. Therefore, in this paper a curriculum for an information protection specialty manpower training is proposed. The proposed curriculum indispensability 1,2 and classified with a selection 1,2 and classified with a selection 1,2. The information protection application field into 9 segments of domains, and to carry out the curriculum in a ring structure. The curriculum based on the information security field's 9 domains and related field practical business, and the course offered after graduation to deepen the specialty, need to be carried out by each domain in order to continuously carry out the information security deepening process.

Geographical Distribution of Physician Manpower by Specialty and Care Level (의사인력의 지역별 분포 -전문과목과 진료수준을 중심으로-)

  • In order to compare the geographical distribution of physician by level of medical care and specialty, a log linear model was applied to the annual registration data of the Korean Medical Association as of the end of December, 1991 which was supplemented from related institutions and adjusted with relevant sources. Those physicians in primary and secondary care institutions were not statistically significantly unevenly distributed by province-level catchment area. There were some differences in physician distribution among big cities, medium and small-sized cities, and counties; however, those physicians for primary care level were equitably distributed between cities and counties. Specialties for secondary care physicians were less evenly distributed in county areas than in city areas, and generalists are distributed more evenly in cities and counties than in big cities. There is a certain limitation due to underregistration in the annual physician registration to the Korean Medical Association; however, the geographical distribution of physicians has been improved quantitatively. It is strongly suggested that specialties and the level of medical care should be considered for further physician manpower studies.

  • The Construction Standard Production Unit(CSPU) has been used for the standard cost estimate in public and private construction projects. However, It is questionable if the reliability and/or authenticity of the system is acceptable due to the lack of consistent enactment and/or revision procedures. This study identifies informational conditions and issues relative to using daily work report as a data collection method for enacting and/or revising CSPU system, and establishes the measures for improving the daily work report. This study aims on the information constitution of daily job-site report, daily manpower report, wages register for specialty contractors. According to the research results, most of necessary data were included in a daily job-site report. In conclusion, it is investigated that data of daily manpower report and wage register need to be included in a daily job-site report for understanding the current state of worker in the future.

  • Recently, there have been increasing studies on the application of digital technology, which has its focus of the irregular building. However, most of these studies have not clarified the objective of the technology and the effectiveness of professional manpower on its performance. This study analyzes actual used technology and the role of specialty contractor. It presents a framework to quantify the performance of the specialty contractor. For these purposes, this paper presents a proposed method to evaluate the activities of specialty contractors using a queueing model. As an attempt to verify the model, an actual irregular building project, in which digital fabrication is applied, is investigated during the construction phase. In order to collect the digital fabrication data, digital fabrication reports and specialty contractor's work log of project are reviewed. In addition, Digital Fabrication input personnel, productivity data are collected through interviews with experts involving in the case project. Analysis of specialty contractor's performance in digital fabrication reveals that the wait status of project participants varies probabilistically depending on the digital technology application level. The results of this study are expected to contribute toward the improvement of the production level in the construction industry.

A NETWORK MODEL FOR NAVAL OFFICER MANPOWER PLANNING

  • For a large organization such as a military service which can foresee future growths in its manpower requirements, a systematic tool that can provide analysis of its present manpower structure and policies in terms of meeting the future requirements, is in order today. This paper proposes a network model for such a purpose. The ROK Navy officer corps manpower system is studied and formulated as a network model, which may be expressed as a linear programming problem of minimizing total cost. An appropriate cost concept is developed and the out-of-kilter algorithm of Ford and Fulkerson is computer programmed to be used as a solution procedure for this network problem. A case study is conducted with a set of hypothetical data on a possible Navy combat-line specialty manpower problem.

  • The engineering industry plays an important role for national competitive, since it has an high impact on other industries. With its importance, the engineering industry development largely depends on its technical manpower ather than capital factor. This study aims at estimating the additional requirement on technical manpower based on the forecasted market size which represents the structure change corresponding to economic growth in related industry. Research scope includes the twelve of fifteen field except three with insufficient historical data and technical manpower above bachelor degree. Specialty, we forecast market size with determinants resulted from historical data analysis on each field. The demand on technical manpower is derived from the forecasted market. We also estimate an additional requirement with the supply analysis. The research results show different patterns over time period. The relative ratio on chemical and construction to total market will steadily grow over short term, while applied, environment, electronic and information will rapidly grow This pattern will be stabilized over mid or long term. The additional requirement on technical manpower represents the similar pattern to market growth. The research result implies manpower policy for having high inflow of technical engineer from educational institute and the related industries through the image improvement.

  • Recent trends in construction towards larger scale and taller buildings are causing problems by ineffective existing management approach in construction industry have emerged. Delivering necessary materials and mobilizing the human resources and equipment In a timely manner to keep labor on schedule have become a critical issue to be addressed. In particular, many specialty contractors carrying out multiple projects have been experiencing difficulties mobilizing the manpower on time and in right places due to poor communication at each stage of labor supply, resulting in waste of valuable resources. Hence, it's imperative for the specialty contractors to obtain specific information on labor demand so as to set up a communication and labor management system to ensure the right human resources will be mobilized in the right place at the right time. The study therefore is aimed at developing an optimal human resources management system for specialty contractors performing multiple projects. To that end, the study is focused on rebar and concrete work. The outcome of the study is expected to help allocate the right human resources to the right place in a timely fashion, thereby achieving an effective workflow at construction sites.

  • The domestic construction industry need to do productivity improvement through technology development than improvement of manpower control or system and develop competitive power through technology in international construction market. Upon this, government for elevation of technological level enacts and operates the advanced construction technology endorsement system but is not looking at effect as that the actual use-results also expected first. Therefore, in this paper, present improvement and direction for activation plan of construction new technology development through comparison with other connection system, literature investigation and questionnaire after grasp present condition of the advanced construction technology endorsement system with specialty construction company as the central figure which occupy most of appointed new technology.
