The concepts of the numerical range of an operator on a Hillbert space and on a Banach space were introduced by Toeplitz in 1918 and Bauer in 1962 respectively. Bauer's paper was concerned only with finite dimensional Banach spaces, but the concept of numerical range that he introduced is available without restriction of the dimension [1, 2]. In this paper, we define a C-algebra spatial numerical range of an operator on C-algebra valued inner product modules introduced by Paschke [4], and give analogous results on these modules as those on Banach spaces.
Existing model formula in the 4 phase model is limited in the estimation of the demand for urban railway because the administrative region-based formula reflects no spatial characteristics of station surrounding area(SSA) that urban railway forms. The purpose of this study is both to analyse the behavior in selecting the method regarding spatial range of SSA and to do the basic research for the development of new model through the survey conducted in the stations of the metropolitan area. This study will review the domestic and foreign cases about designation of SSA, study the spatial range of SSA through case studies, analyze the selection of methods by the spatial range and estimate the demand of the station on the basis of social and economic indices regarding SSA. This study focuses on the verification of real results and model estimates, due to the time constraint and lack of resources for collecting and analysing the data. According to this study, 500m,1000m division of SSA shows the closest results of the model estimates to the real demand of the targeted stations.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between consumer spatial behavior and consumer characteristics based on trade area selection criteria 469 female consumers who lived in the two new towns near Seoul, Bundang and Ilsan, participated in the study by completing questionnaires. Data were analyzed by using cluster analysis, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, chi-square analysis, etc. The findings of the empirical research were as follows: 1. Five groups were identified by cluster analysis based on trade area selection criteria of clothing price-oriented group, time convenience-oriented group, shopping convenience-oriented group, variety/entertainment-oriented group, and passive shopping group. 2. Each group differed in spatial behavior such as clothing shopping area, the visiting frequency, and spatial movement type. 3. Each group showed differences in fashion involvement and demographic characteristics(age, marital status, education, occupation and social status).

Kim and Baek (2000) tested the spatial randomness for he earthquake occurrence in the Korean Peninsula by using the nearest-neighbor test statistics and empirical distribution functions. The K-function, however, has obvious advantages over the methods used in Kim and Baek (2000), such as it does not depend on the shape of the study region and is an effective summary of spatial dependence over a wide range of scales. We applied the K-function method for testing the randomness to both of the historical and the instrumental seismicity data. It was found that he earthquake occurrences for historical and instrumental seismicity data are not random and clustered rather than scattered.
To obtain basic information for precision agriculture, spatial variability of rice growth condition was evaluated in 100m ${\times}$100m paddy field. The rice growth condition of four hundred locations in the field were investigated to analyze the spatial variability of their properties ; SPAD, plant length and tiller number. Geostatistical analysis was carried out to examine within-field spatial variability using semivariograms and kriged maps as well as descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics showed that the coefficient of variation for SPAD, plant length, and tiller number exceeded 5.70 %, suggesting a relatively high variability. Geostatistical analysis indicated a high spatial dependence for all the properties except for the second tiller number. The range of spatial dependence was about 20 m for SPAD, plant length, and tiller number. Based on the results of spatial dependence, kriged maps were prepared for the properties to analyse their spatial distribution in the field. The results reflected the history of field management. In conclusion, the need for site-specific field management and possibility of precision agriculture were demonstrated even in an almost flat paddy field.
Each system should have a suitable data model about their purpose for efficiently managing, analyzing, and manipulating data. And the usable range of application is determined by the data model, and suitable data models are being developed for each application. In GIS, diversity spatial data model is being developed too. The accuracy and update of the spatial data would be important for applying efficient application as well as the data modeling is important as constructing the spatial data structure. Therefore, the purposes of this research are to 1)compare domestic spatial data models with oversea spatial data models about their geometry model, topology model and visualizing method of 3D spatial data 2)to compare the features of the data model by analyzing each data structures. We 3)compare and analyze features of each spatial data models via the quantitative analysis of each spatial data models.

This paper propose the fast motion estimation algorithm with adaptive search range adjustment using motion activities of temporal and spatial neighbor blocks. The existing fast motion estimation algorithms with adaptive search range adjustment use the maximum motion vector of all blocks in the reference frame. So these algorithms may not control a optimum search range for slow moving block in current frame. The proposed algorithm use the maximum motion vector of neighbor blocks in the reference frame to control a optimum search range for slow moving block. So the proposed algorithm can reduce computation time for motion estimation. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the number of search points about 15% more than Simple Dynamic Search Range(SDSR) algorithm while maintaining almost the same bit-rate and motion estimation error.

Perception of surfaces from range images plays a key role in 3-D object recognition. Recognition of 3-D objects from range images is performed by matching the perceived surface descriptions with stored object models. The first step of the 3-d object recognition from range images is image segmentation. In this paper, an approach for segmenting 3-D range images into symbolic surface descriptions using spatial Gabor filter is proposed. Since the phase of data has a lot of important information, the phase information with magnitude information can effectively segment the range imagery into regions satisfying a common homogeneity criterion. The phase and magnitude of Gabor filter can represent a unique featur vector at a point of range data. As a result, range images are trnasformed into feature vectors in 3-parameter representation. The methods not only to extract meaningful features but also to classify a patch information from range images is presented.

Spatial data processing often poses challenges due to the unique characteristics of spatial data and this becomes more complex in spatial big data processing. Some tools have been developed and provided to users; however, they are not common for a regular user. This paper presents a benchmark test between two notable tools of spatial big data processing: GIS Tools for Hadoop and SpatialHadoop. At the same time, a MapReduce application is introduced to be used as a baseline to evaluate the effectiveness of two tools and to derive the impact of number of maps/reduces on the performance. By using these tools and New York taxi trajectory data, we perform a spatial data processing related to filtering the drop-off locations within Manhattan area. Thereby, the performance of these tools is observed with respect to increasing of data size and changing number of worker nodes. The results of this study are as follows 1) GIS Tools for Hadoop automatically creates a Quadtree index in each spatial processing. Therefore, the performance is improved significantly. However, users should be familiar with Java to handle this tool conveniently. 2) SpatialHadoop does not automatically create a spatial index for the data. As a result, its performance is much lower than GIS Tool for Hadoop on a same spatial processing. However, SpatialHadoop achieved the best result in terms of performing a range query. 3) The performance of our MapReduce application has increased four times after changing the number of reduces from 1 to 12.
This paper presents a physical database design methodology for spatial access structures using transformation techniques in spatial database systems. Recently, many spatial access structures have been proposed in the literature. However, there has been no effort for their physical database design. We first show that most spatial queries in the original space are transformed into one type of range queries in the transform space, and then propose a method for finding the optimal configuration of spatial access structures by using the relationship between the shapes of query regions, that are correspond to the range queries, and page regions, that are correspond to data pages, in the transform space. For performance evaluation, we perform extensive experiments with the MBR-MLGF, a spatial access structure using transformation techniques, using various types of queries and data distributions. The results indicate that our proposed method builds optimal MBR-MLGF according to the query types. When the interval ratio of a transformed four-dimensional query region is 1 : 16 : 256 : 4096, the performance of the proposed method is enhanced by as much as five times over that of the conventional cyclic splitting method. The result confirms that the proposed physical database design methodology is useful in a practical way.
