For a spanning tree T of a connected graph ${\Gamma}$ and for a labelling ${\phi}$: E(T) ${\rightarrow}$ {+,-},${\phi}$ is called an alternating sign on a spanning tree T of a graph ${\Gamma}$ if for any cotree edge $e{\in}E({\Gamma})-E(T)$, the unique path in T joining both end vertices of e has alternating signs. In the present article, we prove that any graph has a spanning tree T and an alternating sign on T.
In this paper we prove the existence of spanning 3-trees in a 3-connected infinite locally finite VAP-free plane graph. Together with the results of Barnette and the author, this yields that every finite or infinite 3-connected locally finite VAP-free plane graph contains a spanning 3-tree.

It is well known that spanning tree protocol (STP) is the most commonly used protocol in switching networks for smart grid. STP selectively blocks redundancy links of the network to prevent layer 2 loops in network, and it also has a functionality of backing up links. As with the other protocols, STP has been updated with the continuing development of the network. STP is a broad concept and it does not just refer in particular to defined STP protocol in IEEE 802.1D standards, it refers to updated spanning tree protocol based on STP. Because of uneven distribution of communication traffic in root bridge, STP cannot satisfy fast converge nce while the failure occurs near the root bridge or on the root bridge in tree topologies of STP. In this paper, we propose a novel method --- Hyper Cube Spanning Tree Protocol (HCSTP) to solve uneven distribution of communication traffic. Theoretically, hyper cube in our protocol increases throughput and improves the utilization of communication. The simulation results show that HCSTP can achieve comparative and considerably higher performance than other STP protocols in terms of reconnection.
Some extensions of minimum spanning tree problem are NP-hard problem in which polynomial-time solutions for them do not exist. Because of their complexity, recently some researcher have used the genetic algorithms to solve them. In genetic algorithm approach the Prufer number is usually used to represent a tree. In this paper we discuss the problem of the Prufer number encoding method and propose an improved genetic operation. Using a numerical comparison we demonstrate the excellence of the proposed method.

In this paper, we suggest a new capability aware spanning tree(CAST) algorithm for Ethernet bridged network which consists of both legacy Ethernet bridges and synchronous Ethernet ones. The legacy spanning tree algorithm specified in IEEE 802.1D standard select root bridge and construct tree based on each bridge's identifier without consideration of each bridge's capability. Thus we note that if the legacy STP may assign a synchronous bridge as a root bridge, the bridge may become a bottleneck for asynchronous trafficbecause of bandwidth limitation for asynchronous traffic. In this paper, the CAST algorithm constructsmultiple spanning tree by using of bridge capability and makes different transmission path for each traffics, can removes this kind of defect. From the simulation results, we can see that the proposed CAST algorithm has better end-to-end delay performance than legacy spanning tree algorithm in high traffic load and multiple hops environment.
Given a set S of n points in the plane, a minimum-diameter spanning tree(MDST) for the set might have a degree up to n-1. This might cause the degradation of the network performance because the node with high degree should handle much more requests than others relatively. Thus it is important to construct a spanning tree network with small degree and diameter. This paper presents an algorithm to construct a spanning tree for S satisfying the following four conditions: (1) the degree is controled as an input, (2) the tree diameter is no more than constant times the diameter of MDST, (3) the tree is monotone (even if arbitrary point is fixed as a root of the tree) in the sense that the Euclidean distance from the root to any node on the path to any leaf node is not decreasing, and (4) there are no crossings between edges of the tree. The monotone property will play a role as an aesthetic criterion in visualizing the tree in the plane.

In general, Euclidean minimum spanning tree is a tree connecting input nodes with minimum connecting cost. But the tree may not be optimal when applied to real world problems of three dimension. In this paper, three dimension Euclidean minimum spanning tree is proposed, connecting all input nodes of 3-dimensional space with minimum cost. In experiments for 30,000 input nodes with 100% space ratio, the tree produced by the proposed method can reduce 90.0% connection cost tree, compared with the tree by two dimension Prim's minimum spanning tree. In two dimension plane, the proposed tree increases 251.2% connecting cost, which is pointless in 3-dimensional real world. Therefore, the proposed method can work well for many connecting problems in real world space of three dimensions.

Let G be a connected graph of n vertices. The problem of finding a depth-first spanning tree of G is to find a connected subgraph of G with the n vertices and n-1 edges by depth-first-search. in this paper we propose an O(n) time algorithm to solve this problem on permutation graphs.
Experimentation using computer plays an important part in education and research in graph theory. The purpose of this paper is to develop the CAS techniques for the hands-on approach in graph theory specifically on the topic of constructing the spanning tree. This paper discusses the advantages of CAS as the software system for doing graph theory and introduces the software solutions integrating multimedia user interface developed by the author, which extend the functionality of the existing CAS-based graph theory software package.
