  • This paper proposes a control algorithm for STATic synchronous COMpensator(STATCOM), based on Space Vector Modulation(SVM) and Hysteresis Current Controller(HCC) techniques. STATCOM is used to reactive power compensation on a distribution network. The proposed algorithm utilizes the advantages of the fast dynamic response of the hysteresis current control and the reduced switching number of the SVM scheme. The controller determines a set of space vectors from a region detector and applies a space vector. A set of space vectors including the zero vector, to reduce the number of switching, is determined from output signals of two hysteresis comparators. The presented control system was tested with digital simulation in the Borland C++ program and demonstrate the advantage of the proposed hysteresis current controller.

  • In this paper, a voltage and current control scheme of a three-phase voltage source inverter for UPS is described. The inverter provides pure sinusoidal output voltage with very low THD(Total Harmonic Distortion). The proposed controller is designed to robust against the load change, parameter variations, and disturbances using PI controller. The switching pattern is determined to Space Vector Modulation. Finally, the performance of the proposed inverter is shown and discussed by simulation.

  • AC/AC power conversion is widely used to feed AC loads with a variable voltage and/or a variable frequency from a constant voltage constant frequency power grid or to connect critical loads to an unreliable power supply while delivering a very balanced and accurate sinusoidal voltage system of constant amplitude and frequency. The load specifications will clearly impose the requirements for the inverter stage of the power converter, while wider ranges of choices are available for the rectifier. This paper investigates the utilization of a buck-type current source rectifier as the active front-end stage of an AC/AC converter for applications that require an adjustable DC-link voltage as well as elimination of the low-frequency common mode voltage. The proposed solution is to utilize a combination of two or more zero current vectors in the Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique for Current Sources Rectifiers (CSR).

  • In this investigation the PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation} will be used for optimizing PWM inverter pulse pattern. In traditional the pulse frequency of PWM is kept const. But modulated PWM's frequency in this study, the sinusoidal inverter's performance should be improved. The PWM pulsepatterns are definitely controlled so that the time-integral function of the voltage vectors in the space vector notation may show a circular locus. Further, performance index will be minimized because of minimizing distortion of output current. Finally, we will implement itusingsingle-chip microprocessor.

  • In this paper, Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) Inverter system using Carrier Frequency Modulated PWM (CFM-PWM) is proposed to reduced harmonics and electromagnetic noise. Power conversion of UPS system is executed by the ON-OFF operation of semiconductor switching devices. However, this switching operation causes the surge and EMI which deteriorate the reliability of the UPS system. This Problems improved by Random PWM switching method. The simulation results of the proposed system was compared with the system using conventional method using Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the output voltage and current harmonics of the proposed UPS system significantly decreased and spread into wide band area by the proposed Carrier Frequency Modulated PWM(CFM-PWM) method based on the Space Vector Modulation.

  • This paper describes the design, construction and implementation of matrix converter based on space vector modulation technique. The matrix converter provides sinusoidal input and output wave forms, bidirectional power flow, controllable input power factor and a compact design, compared to the VSI with diode rectification stage at the input. The implemented prototype of matrix converter is built using the exclusive IGBT module and has an input filter, overvoltage protection circuit and commutation means for overcoming practical issues. The good results tested using an induction motor are also presented.

  • In this paper two dual output current-type inverters are proposed. These inverters have been called a current source nines-witch inverter and a current-type z-source nine-switch inverter by the authors. The proposed inverters have two independent current source outputs. Compared to two independent current source inverters, the proposed converters are implemented with fewer semiconductor switches. Space vector modulation (SVM) is proposed for these converters. Simulation results show the validity and performance of the proposed inverters.

  • This paper analyses the harmonic pollution to power grids caused by several high-power rectifiers, summarizes the requirements for rectifiers in suppressing grid-side current harmonics and optimizes a new-type of current source PWM rectifier with a hybrid switch. The rectifier with a hybrid switch boasts significant current characteristics and cost advantages in the high-power area. To further enhance the working frequency of the current source rectifier with a hybrid switch for suppressing grid-side harmonics and reducing the inductance size, this paper proposes an optimal control strategy based on space vector. It also verifies that the optimal control strategy based on space vector can reduce the total harmonic distortion of the grid-side current of the rectifier with a hybrid switch via circuit simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a four-phase 8/6-pole 4-kW SR motor drive model is presented. Based on experimental data, the model allows an accurate simulation of a drive in dynamic operation. Simulations are performed and a laboratory type set-up is built based on a TI TMS320F2812 platform to experimentally verify the theoretical results obtained for a SR motor. To reduce acoustic noise and to correct the power factor of this drive, a two-stage power converter is proposed that uses a current source rectifier (CSR) as the input stage for the asymmetrical converter of the studied SRM. Employing the space-vector modulation (SVM) method in matrix converters, the CSR switching allows the dc link's capacitors to be eliminated and the power factor of the SRM drive to be improved. As the electrical motive force (emf) is directly proportional to the rotor speed, the input voltage to the machine can be programmed to be a function of the speed with the modulation index of the CSR, leading to a reduction in the acoustic noise of the SRM drive. Simulation of the whole SRM drive system is performed using MATLAB-Simulink. The results fully comply with the required conditions such as power factor correction with an improvement in the THD.
