Analysis of the Phase Current Measurement Boundary of Three Shunt Sensing PWM Inverters and an Expansion Method

  • To obtain phase currents information in AC drives, shunt sensing technology is known to show great performance in cost-effectiveness and therefore it is widely used in low cost applications. However, shunt sensing methods are unable to acquire phase currents in certain operation conditions. This paper deals with the derivation of the boundary conditions for phase current reconstruction in three-shunt sensing inverters and proposes a voltage injection method to expand the measurable areas. As the boundary conditions are deeply dependent on the switching patterns, they are typically analyzed on the voltage vector plane for space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) and discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM). In the proposed method, the voltage injection and its compensation are conducted within one sampling period. This guarantees fast current reconstruction and the injected voltage is decided so as to minimize the current ripple. In addition to the voltage injection method, a sampling point shifting method is also introduced to improve the boundary conditions. Simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the boundary condition derivation and the effectiveness of the proposed voltage injection method.

  • Generally, the average phase current is sampled at the midpoint of a PWM signal for the vector control of an AC motor. The three-phase current can also be reconstructed from a DC-link shunt resistor by sampling the shunt voltage during the active vectors of the SVPWM. However, the reconstructed current is different from the average current because of the deviation of the sampling point from the midpoint of the PWM signal. This paper proposes an algorithm to estimate the average current from the reconstructed current in a single-shunt inverter. The proposed method is derived from the phase current slopes based on switching states and corresponding switching time. In addition, the proposed method is generalized for all the six sectors of the space vector hexagon. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified with simulations and experiments.

  • This paper describes a fully hardware realization of vector controller for the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using high density field programmable gate mays (FPGA). In the proposed system, the vector controller including vector transformation , PI regulator, position and speed measurement, current measurement, and space vector PWM blocks is implemented in a FPGA using a VHSIC hardware description language (VHDL). The experimental results using a 1.1kW PMSM are provided to show the validity of the proposed system.

  • This paper presents the high performance control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) using space vector(SV) PWM method based on hybrid artificial intelligent(HAI) controller. The HAI controller combines the advantages between adaptive fuzzy control and neural network The SV PWM method is applied to a speed control system of motor in the industry field until now and is feasible to improve harmonic rate of output current, switching frequency and response characteristics. This HAI controller is used instead of conventional PI controller in order to solve problems happening when calculating a reference voltage. The HAI controller improves speed performance by hybrid combination of reference model-based adaptive mechanism method, fuzzy control and neural network. This paper analyzes response characteristics of parameter variation, steady-state and transient-state using proposed HAI controller and this controller compares with conventional fuzzy neural network(FNN) and PI controller. Also, this paper proves validity of HAI controller.

  • This paper proposes a new active common-mode voltage damper circuit that is capable of suppressing a common-mode voltage produced in the PWM VSI-fed induction motor drives. The new active common mode voltage damper is consists of a four-level half-bridge Inverter and a common mode transformer with a blocking capacitor. In order to reduce the common mode voltage and high frequency leakage current the active common mode damper applies to the PWM inverter system the compensated voltage of which the amplitude is the same as the common mode voltage and of which the polarity is opposite to the common mode voltage. Simulated using P-SPICE and experimental results show that common-mode voltage damper makes contributions to reducing a high frequency leakage current and common-mode voltage.

  • this paper deals with HVDC Light(High Voltage Direct Current) system using space vector PWM(SVPWM) method. Because the system of this paper has d-q control scheme for HVDC Light system.   • In this paper, the method of Space-Vector Pulse Width Modulation(SVPWM) with Fuzzy Logic Regulator(FLR) is proposed. In a conventional SVPWM, the procedures of phase transformation and choosing PWM patterns are complex. So, it should be implemented with high performance processor like Digital Signal Processor(DSP). In order to reduce a calculation burden, a proposed system adopts FLR. Using a linguistic contro strategy based on expert knowledge, FLR relieves the processor from a heavy computations. In simulations, the proposed system is validated.

  • This paper proposes a fault-tolerant strategy for indirect matrix converter (IMC) based on the concept of four-leg matrix converter in case of an open-circuit fault in the inverter stage. The proposed strategy can maintain the same output performance as the healthy condition during the faulty condition. Some simulated results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.

  • This paper proposes a design method of an LCL-filter for grid-tied three-level inverter systems. The demand for three-phase PWM inverters in applications such as wind or solar power generation systems has been increase in recent years. To reduce harmonic components caused by switching operation, such inverters are connected to the grid via an LCL filter. Although there are research results for designing LCL-filter, the modulation method should be fully considered to make the filter perform desired cancellation ability with minimized size. This paper presents the design methodology for an LCL-filter that is optimized for SVM switching operations. The simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the LCL-filter designed with proposed method in this paper.

  • An easier implementation method of the field oriented control of induction machine using Matlab/Simulink dSpace board is proposed in this paper. Space Vector PWM and Indirect Fied Oriented Control Algorithm is designed for the help of Simulink. And this system is simultaneously simulated and experimented in Matlab/Simulink environment with dSpace borad (DS1102). It is possible that Matlab and dSpace board compiler can make $'^*.c'$ and $'^*.obj'$ file of models designed in Matlab/Simulink environment automatically. Experimental results are given.
