  • Today, the paradigm of education is changing from teacher-centered, facility-centered, supplier-centered to student-centered, people-centered, and user-centered. In 2019, the Ministry of Education promoted the school space innovation project to provide a school space as a balanced life space, such as learning, play, and rest, through educational activities led by students, who are the leaders of the future society. Based on this, Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education prepared a manual for practice while carrying out a project to build a future classroom. In those projects 'user participatory design' is applied as a new design approach and facilitators play an important role as experts in the process of user participatory design. However, it is different from the guidelines by the Ministry of Education in terms of facilitator role; facilitator in Incheon's future classroom projects can be in charge of designer part. This was possible because the design scope was limited to the classroom space and the construction permit work was not applied, and the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education seems to be able to successfully implement the plan derived through 'user participatory design' under the responsibility of the facilitator. However, this may be considered to be inconsistent with the basic purpose of the school space innovation project. In the case of the school unit project, it is considered that more systematic supplementation is necessary.

After the students and teachers participated in the improvement of the school space, the students' skills were improved. Overall, emotional abilities were most cultivated, and elementary school students were most physically cultivated. The intimacy created by participation and activities and play-oriented projects may have helped to develop students' abilities. In addition, the school became fun after user participation, and there was a positive effect of increasing a sense of apathy and belonging. The expansion of user participation has resulted in not only the satisfaction of space but also the friendship and emotional part of students. As a result of this study, the school space constructed through the user participation process brought about significant educational changes in school life and individual quality of life in the learning activities and school life of teachers and students, the main users of the school space.

  • This study is aimed at presenting an efficient management plan of user participatory design in a situation where the School Space Innovation Project is in progress. 2 schools that were the targets of the Incheon School Space Innovation Project in 2019 were selected for this, and features such as the physical environment of that classroom, classroom usage plan, and the stepwise outcome of the user participatory design workshop were contemplated. Especially the workshop outcome was compared and analyzed quantitatively, focusing on the actual master plan and zoning plan, in order to identify the feature that opinions of various users are reflected on the actual plan. As a result, the following conclusion could be reached. Firstly, it was confirmed that the expression about the user preferential space influences the classroom usage plan of that classroom. Vague expressions about the whole space held a large majority of the objects for the linguistic expression of the preferential space. The expression mode as limited as the expression of the actions that users want to carry out in the space. On the other hand, when the usage purpose of the classroom was definite, it was confirmed that the demand for furniture·facility is relatively high. Secondly, according to the analysis of zoning for each function, it seems that the stereotype, which is arranged on the basis of the chalkboard at the front of existing classrooms, was applied in the case of the learning zone. However, in cases of other functions, a tendency was identified that the user carries out an image description that reflects the physical features of the space. Sufficient preparation will need to precede for the efficient management of the user participatory design workshop and the acceptance of various opinions. It seems that especially the classroom usage plan, number of workshops, consultation of each step, and the education about the space expression mode affect the master plan.

  • School is where students spend a lot of time. However, it is made up spaces which have got no consideration for students. Public buildings, such as schools, were designed by experts, not by users, while the opinions of users were reflected in a small part. As a result, school has become an uncomfortable place for students. User participation design has been proposed as a way to improve it. Recently, in designing schools, user participation design called "School Space Innovation Project" has been carried out actively and many kinds of guidelines have been suggested in project. But because it is unsystematic, In fact, it is hard to apply on site. Comparing and analyzing various User Participation Processes to figure out the similarities and differences is the purpose of this research and we want to suggest the result as a data that can be used as guidelines for project related to User Participation Design.

  • We studied how to achieve successful implementation of massive research and development projects requiring collaboration among industries, universities and government-supported research institute. We have set up an engineering process innovation model to be deemed most adequately for all practical purposes, relying on the theoretical studies on the merits and analysis of the effect of the information system based on Milestone Management, Work Breakdown Structures and Web, which is known to be effective for research project (schedule) management and the objective management, and implemented a real-world web-based project objective management system. After a review of various R & D Project Schedule Management methods, we found that this information system was very compatible with project objective management. This project objective management information system carries out research and development projects effectively and efficiently, getting together in cyber-space and sharing information, and has been equipped with an Early Warning Subsystem to allow for pre-analysis and timely response to potential problems arising from the course of the project. The system also contains an Executive Information System that in real time, automatically provides the management information required by managers with the rate of project progress (achievement, fulfillment and delay). Lastly, actual progress can be cross-checked through both on-line objective management on the web-based information system and design review meeting held on site, to improve the efficiency and validity of the information system. Moreover, overall effect was analyzed through questionnaires on how well the system and generated information meet requirements and on the ultimate impact of the system upon objective management and communication. The questionnaire on the system effect revealed that the information system was useful to objective management and communication, and that the quality of the system was more than acceptable as well.
