  • The purpose of the study is to present the social welfare center planning factors of space for promoting intergenerational exchanges between the elderly and children. To achieve the purpose, the study conducted a survey of professionals on the importance of planning factors. The results are as follows. First, it is surveyed that less high are Korean social welfare center planning and availability extents of space for intergenerational exchanges, while less no profound are the necessity and concern of such spaces. The result suggests that social welfare centers need a concrete planning of space for intergenerational exchanges. Second, it is identified that in order to promote intergenerational exchanges, there need to plan planning factors of each space, especially with focus on 'outdoor space' and 'specific space.' Third, it is revealed that regarding the importance of factors of 'specific space,' physical supports account for the high rates; architectural factors providing free space contribute to the supports of physical development; and decorative factors giving visual effects could be helpful for behaviors. Fourth, it is unveiled that the supports of physical behaviors are of the most importance in 'connecting space'. This would be planned as a path that gives a free access in spaces, with attention being paid to safety. Lastly, it is shown that in the case of 'outdoor space,' the supports of physical development are of the most importance. Given the fact that 'outdoor space' offers a wider scope of activities, and accommodates various available elements in connection with surrounding environments, it is considered that the space would be of help for intergenerational interactions. The study is expected to be utilized as the preliminary data which proposes the social welfare center planning factors of space for promoting intergenerational exchanges between the elderly and children.

  • In this study, I tried to provide the basic data for planning the public library space to meet the new needs of the users in digital generation by survey and literature review on factors in planning the digital space of public libraries. In 2000, a separate space for digital materials has been prepared at the most of the libraries as a part of informatization program of public libraries. However, it is not sufficient to provide a number of different needs of the users due to the identical design of all the libraries. For the prioritization, 50 factors have been deducted by review of preceding studies, evaluation factors and criteria of library of each institution. Factorial analysis was performed on the factors with the importance which was higher than average. Also, the relationships among the factors with similar properties were understood to categorize the factors in space planning by each factor. Based on these factors in planning the digital space, further space evaluation of the public library and user satisfaction survey could be followed to provide a fundamental basis for the specific space planning.

  • There are more and more citizens suffering from severe fatigue, and they wish to escape from it and spend their leisure time for healing. As a result, buildings and complexes are being constructed nationwide with healing as their theme. Particularly, they tend to build facilities with concepts like a spa, beauty, healing, meditation, nature, or forest healing. The purpose of this study is to examine the concept of healing environment and the nationwide tendencies of building facilities with healing as their theme and also investigate the planning characteristics of complexes and architecture with three representative complexes as examples. Complexes intended for healing have immersion into nature being freed from one's routine as their concept. When planning the flow of human traffic within the complexes, they try to obtain the autonomy of choice as well as the diversity of space and experiential factors in order to provide opportunities for experiencing nature. In the complexes selected for a case study here, they have planned the factors of physical environment that are associated with one another based on architectural education programs using red clay, programs specializing poetry, and healing programs using food. Typically, this is centered around outdoor experiential space, indoor meditation and education space, or fitness space. Also, it is characterized by the planning of physical environment and the complex operation of programs. Particularly, public space is divided into communal space, resting space, and health and treatment space, and health/resting space is mainly intended for health and exercise, for example, fitness, spas, or jjimjilbang (Korean dry saunas). Also, it is characterized by the planning of pitched roofs harmonized with nature and also facade planning that can positively adopt the factors of natural environment.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the overall recognition on attitudes of well-dying and evaluation the importance of planning factors of well-dying space in college students. This will serve as a basis to accumulate materials on the recognition of well-dying and well-dying spaces of various generations of South Korea. This study conducted a survey from October 4th to 8th, 2016 with 119 college students from U University and K University. As the contents of the survey, were comprised of general socio-demographic elements, subjective recognition and attitudes toward well-dying, and the importance of the planning factors of the physical, emotional, social and spiritual environments of the well-dying space. The main results are as follows. (1) The interest of university students on death education is high, and there was a preference for 'home' where they could be comfortable and be with loved ones as the space for dying. Also, in case of events of bereaving them after death, formal grieving ceremonies were undesired. The funeral was desired to be simple, serene, and not too sad. (2) In evaluation of the importance of physical, emotional, and spiritual environmental planning factors, physical environmental factors were considered to be the most important overall, and the recognition of importance of the planning factors of spiritual environment was low.

  • Every year new tall buildings are being conceived, designed, and built with new schemes. Thus it is important to explore the factors that affect tall building design. Thus it is important to explore the tall building design factors. The planning and design of tall buildings require different criteria than those that exist in regular size buildings. Tall buildings are uniquely expressed by their structural systems where exterior esthetic and requirements of space drive the form and composition of the structural systems. Therefore the exploration of design factors is the key to achieve optimum building systems. Optimization as mentioned here is associated with the efficiency of the different building systems. To achieve an optimal system, there is a need for an understanding of the factors that affect on overall tall building design such as planning module, building function, lease span, floor-to-floor-height, building height (aspect ratio), structural system, environmental systems. In this paper a statistical approach will be used and will be based on data collected from the practice through a rigorous survey taken. This information is tabulated and analyzed. The major target of investigation will be lease span related to space requirement in the tall building planning. Factors related to lease spans, such as function, floor-to-floor height, planning module, building height, overall plan dimension, and plan ratio (building geometry), will be looked at carefully. IN conclusion, this approach of optimization can introduce a preliminary design guideline for tall building projects. The purpose of the paper should shed some light on the optimum tall building design criteria.

  • Green belts can help to set boundary for city growth, provide ecological protection system and enhance the resilience of Beijing. During the implementation period of the current overall city planning of Beijing, the proportion of green space varies much among the sub-districts, villages and towns involved in the two green belts in the research. With this as starting point, by researching the correlations of 'city system factors' and 'planning policy factors' with the change in the scale of green space, the paper discussed the influential factors of implementing the planning of green space of Beijing, and conducted quantitative research, with such possible influential factors classified into 'city system factors' and 'planning policy factors'. Through multiple linear regression model, the paper tested the correlations of city system factors and planning policy factors (independent variable) with the increment in the construction land in green belts (dependent variable). Through influence to population aggregation and the expansion force of construction land, city system factors such as mountain land and water, house rent of unit area, accessibility of public transport and the newly-defined state-owned construction land generate correlation with the change in the scale of construction land in green belts.
