As public space such as plaza and square in the compact city type multi-use complex is a social public space that various communication and cultural exchange take places in city environment. The purpose of this study is to analyse and categorize the design elements as a valuation basis for the public space in the compact city type multi-use complex. The scope of contents of this study is focused on the Central City, COEX and Western Dome facilities in Korea. This study review based on the previous studies and statistical analysis about questionnaires obtained from 131 users of three facilities were conducted for this study. The results of the survey as follows accessibility, comfort, exchange were extracted as the aspects for evaluation for functional activity and connection, openness, hierarchy were extracted as the aspects for evaluation for space formation. The K facility's priority aspect is the accessibility and the S and the W facilities' are the openness.

This paper aims to analyse facilities and characteristics of management for 21 model schools' open education system. So, we analyzed the class management and the methods of open education, teacher's mind, the shape and form of study group and we investigated teachers' satisfaction rate about the physical space. As a result, it is considered that the change for structure of learning space unit is needed because of the limitation in standard class size by the rule for construction. Considering the decrease of real using space by the space of learning materials or learning furniture, it should enlarge the structure of learning space unit or decrease the number of students. And to use multipurpose space practically as a place of study, it need that the multiple support of study program for teachers by government, support in course of study, giving training opportunity to teachers, distribution of personal management.

In this study, the state-space Newmark method based on average velocity is presented to analyse the transient dynamic response for general dynamic system. The conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration cannot he directly to the first-order state-space differential equations introducing the state-space vector. To overcome this problem, the time-step integration algorithm, based on average velocity concept, suitable for the first-order state-space differential equations is proposed In results, the proposed method has %he numerical stability and order of accuracy, which is proved analytically, equal to those of the conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration. Also, the formulation for numerical solution is very simple and the calculation time Is nearly equal to that of the conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration in spite of an increase of two times over matrix size. This method will be look forward to applying the general dynamic system to calculate the transient dynamic response.

As most modern architectures had been constructed aiming at only both self-reliance and the purity without considering the place, the contemporary architectures have been also exposed to 'the loss of the place' similarly. From recognizing these problems, studying new spatial approach and various movements to create new modern place overcoming this have been progressed. It is meant that building shouldn't exist away from a land, without meanings. It is need to create new space aggressively against varying spaces. Thus, This thesis focus on architect Jean Nouvel among the architects having the insight of space and study his architectural design philosophy through his works creating new space. The aim of this study is to review how to define the 'placeness', and the light as a mediator of place. First of all, this thesis begins with a review what is the 'placeness' as spatial analysis and how to define 'light' as a mediator of place with his books, scholarly lectures, interviews, writing and papers and then analyse how light is represented through 'the place program of light' from his selected works. As a result of it, the thesis provides the possibilities of his constant challenges about 'existence-space-essence' by deriving the characteristics of 'the place program of light' focused on what his architectural approach constructs new space all the time through a regular program even if hard to define all his works as one model.

Various thoughts about the concept of space have brought a variety of paradigms to the trend. Just as existing information innovation applied activity and function of physical space for computers to overcome time and space limits, future space transplants intelligence to all the objects as organic whole in electronic and physical space by using IT technology to create emotional space. The most universal housing space in our living has had considerable changes in application of life style and technology. However, advanced technology space which corresponds to acceptance and desires of residents does not meet the needs and emotion of residents because of its limited network system. Therefore, it should be transformed into smart space which stimulates human emotion in the trend of advanced technology culture. As future residential space needs technological elements and design process which can stimulate human emotion, this study is to analyse it as a base of emotional design. This study aims to present characteristics of space image for space realization which meets the age of smart technology in terms of unifying smart space with emotional design, focusing on four future housing galleries shown by construction companies. First, the study speculated smart space in theory and classified characteristics and types of smart space into connectivity, sensitivity, reiteration and variability according to changes in space paradigm. Second, the study identified the background and main points emotional design appeared, analysed types of smart space based on characteristics of experimentation, connectivity and symbolism and speculated characteristics of emotional design in each type. In respect to characteristics of emotional design in smart space, organic connection and sensitivity are remarkably presented through experimentation and reiteration is presented through organic connection and experimentation, and variability through symbolism and experimentation.

Recently, urban mixed-use commercial facilities have been required to raise a safe environment in public areas. So, this study focuses on analyze planning factors selected through the precedent research for Pedestrian safety and environment of urban mixed-use commercial facilities. The first purpose of this study is to analyse the applicative estimation of environmental plan to support pedestrians in public space of urban mixed-use commercial facilities in Seoul. And the second purpose of this study is to propose the directions of environmental planning for creating a pedestrian-friendly environment in public space of urban mixed-use commercial facilities. In order to accomplish this purpose, the environmental planning factors for supporting pedestrians and guidelines for disabled shown in the precedent studies are drawn. A survey of research subjects are 4 urban mixed-use commercial facilities located in downtown Seoul. And then a questionnaire survey is performed on architecture and interior design students to evaluate the importance. As a result of the study, the following conclusion are drawn. The pedestrian-friendly environment in urban mixed-use commercial facilities requires planning to strengthen accessibility, supporting and safety of public space.

This study is aimed to specify the meaning of the body and the design trends in contemporary architecture. Architecture is based on the human life of various meaning, events, experiences, images, senses and interactions through the body. Thoughts, behaviors, and senses of human are interrelated in architectural experiences. Individuals experience the built environments and space, not through the ideas but through the senses and movements of the body. So, bodies make the real space of architecture. Contemporary architecture accepts the theory of phenomenology and places on the thoughts of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, Heidegger, Nroberg Schulz and so on. Such researches effect on the architectural trends to make design processes works on the programs in views of the expansion and the structuralization of human body. In detail, the aim of this study is to analyse the architecture as the fields of the subject with body as the center, design processes and principles changed form metaphysical thought to phenomenological discourse, and the design trends in contemporary architecture at last. In process of movements, vision centered architecture moves into the bodily experienced architecture and changed the trends from absolute form design to design of relative processes. In conclusion, architectural formation-dissolution-reconstitution of body creates the architectural thoughts such as human proportions, perspective space, ergonomics, modular, organic architecture, experience space, synesthesia, event architecture, fashion-invoked architecture, interactive surfaces, metamorphosis, and others.

As urbanization has evolved, a number of cities have been engaged in building creative power through branding. Cities contain much creative space and creative space within cities develops them. Cities are connected with space, which have a great influence each other, in particular, in cities of culture and art. Space contents in cities have various forms and types and work as important factors for branding of cities. In this high-touch generation, cities of culture and art have special meaning in that design of emotional generation, and cultural meaning of tangible and intangible assets in cities are their competitive power and sources of high added value. The cities of culture and art are oriented toward creative future globally and nationally. In cities of culture which seek for urban development by excavating artistic meaning and value through artistic and cultural development, their cultural meaning itself can become a brand, which effectively leads to building creative cities and marketing of urban brands. This study aims to analyse cases of cities developed through discovering or reactivating art and cultural meaning and value of urban space based on urban space contents. Then it analyses through what urban image, brands and marketing space contents were developed and suggests necessity of space contents development in small and middle sized cities. Therefore, based on the cases of art and cultural cities developed depending on space contents, it analyses and differentiate their various types and contents, aiming to show that any cities can be based on art and culture and creativity depending on creation, regeneration and development of space contents.

Multi-sensory design results from sensory design paradigm and image centricism, which stimulates 5 sensation; visual, auditory, haptic, smell and taste sensation when we experience environment. This is helpful for designing outdoor space considering integrated sensation not only visual and auditory sensation as well as for improving visitor's satisfaction. Therefore, this study mainly intended to analyse the multi-sensory preference and the image influence of outdoor leisure space. For these purpose, this study selected 3 leisure spaces around Seoul city; Gwan-ak mountain(the type oriented natural resource), Insa-dong(the type oriented cultural resource) and Seoul land as theme park(the type oriented facility) and a survey was performed with a total of 204 visitors at the above spaces in winter and summer. The results of this study indicate that visual sensation was evaluated most high at 3 outdoor leisure spaces in both winter and summer. Visitors at Gwan-ak mountain and Seoul land prefer visual and haptic sensation, but visitors at Insa-dong prefer visual and haptic sensation in summer, visual and taste sensation in winter. Above all, this study led the designer to consider diverse sensation to access leisure space, especially haptic sense, which can be an effective design strategy to satisfy visitors.
