This experiment was conducted to know critical sowing depth and emergence day under different sowing depth at Crop Experiment Station, Suweon, in 1982. Tested weed species were Sagittaria pygnaea, Eleocharis kuroguwai, Cyperus serotinus and Potamageton distinetus, sowing depth of weeds were 5cm, 10cm, 15cm, 20cm and 25cm Critical emergence sowing depth of S. pygnaea, E. kuroguwai was 15cmand C. serotinus was 20cm sowing depth while P. distintus was 25cm sowing depth. Average emergence days under 5cm sowing depth for E. kurogwai, S. pygmaea, P. distintus and C. serotinus was 27.8 days, 14.1 days, 13.6 days and 7.3 days. While, relationships between sowing depth and day to emergence was positively correlated. Gernination percent of weeds under Critical emergence sowing depth, S. pygmaea, E. kurogwai and, P. distinctus was 57%, 67%, 80%, but C. serotinu.s was all died.
This experiment was conducted to investigate of soil hardening degree before sowing, furrow depth at sowing and flooding time after sowing at furrowing in flooded rice paddy field that many people have an interest in as direct sowing method most recently. As hardening period was increased, the percentage of seedling stand and seed floating at flooding were increased slightly, while buried depth of stem at maximum tillering stage and cone penetration depth were decreased, respectively. Therefore, optimum degree of soil hardening was about 3 days after draining, at this time, cone penetration degree was about 6~7cm. According to furrow depth was more and more deep, buried depth of stem was increased gradually, but percentage of seedling stand was decreased considerbly. Also, root distribution ratio on surpace horizon and lodging degree were increased gradually according to furrow depth become more and more shallow. As flooding time after sowing was late, percentage of seedling stand and panicle number per $m^2$ were decreased slightly. These results apparently indicated that sowing after 3 days hardening when cone penetration degree was 6~7cm, furrow depth 3~4cm degree and flooding time just after sowing the best method to good establish of seedling stand.
This study was conducted to evaluate effects of seeding rate and depth during broadcast sowing on growth and yield of foxtail millet and proso millet over 2 years. The rate of sowing seeds was adjusted to 5, 7, 10 and 20 kg per ha on foxtail millet, and 5, 10, 15 and 30 kg per ha for proso millet. Sowing depth was 0.5, 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 cm used tractor rotary attachment for shallow-tilling. The rate of seedlings standing when foxtail millet and proso millet were sowed to a depth of 0.5~5 cm was 72.0~78.0% and 73.0~80.5%, respectively. Plant height and weight at the three-leaf stage after emergence was highest for the treatment with 3 cm rotary depth. As the rate of broadcast seed sowing increased, plant length, diameter, seed length, and seeds on the panicle decreased. The grain yield of foxtail millet was highest with broadcast seed sowing of 10 kg per ha (3652, $3977kg\;ha^{-1}$) and proso millet was highest at broadcast seed sowing of 15 kg per ha (2226, $2052kg\;ha^{-1}$) in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Therefore, the optimum rate of sowed seeds under broadcast cultivation was $10kg\;ha^{-1}$ for foxtail millet and $15kg\;per\;ha^{-1}$ for proso millet. Optimum sowing depth for foxtail and proso millet under broadcast cultivation was 3 cm, using a rotary tractor attachment for shallow-tilling.

Garlic is an important crop, accounting for 1.1 trillion won out of 3.7 trillion won for the total production of seasoned vegetables in Korea. On the other hand, the cultivation area and production volume are decreasing continuously due to the shortage of an agricultural labor force, aging, and insufficient mechanization. In particular, the mechanization of garlic sowing is barely performed, resulting in large amounts of labor. Therefore, it is necessary to study the mechanization of planting garlic. Therefore, in this study, to determine the optimal working conditions for mechanical sowing of garlic, an experiment was conducted to compare the yield according to the sowing angle and depth of garlic during sowing. After sowing using a seeding machine set under optimal conditions, the conventional work and yield were compared. The results showed that it is most appropriate to sow garlic with a sowing angle of 45° or 90° and a depth of 2 cm to 4 cm, and there is no difference in the yield between sowing with a sowing machine and conventional work.
The term underground stem is not used correctly as mesocotyle that is the first internode of barley, wheat and rye. Mesocotyle does not elongate and it remain in the seed in case of these crops. The elongated stem is second internode of these crops and not mesocotyle but rhizome or underground stem. The node on which the underground stem is attached is coleoptile node and coleptile is attached here. The objective of this study was to determine if the depth of sowing affect the coleoptile length and plant height. The deeper sowing caused the longer coleoptile length and plant height. Coleoptile length and plant height of 2cm depth of sowing showed significant difference with 6cm and 10cm depth of sowing in barley and wheat. Variation of these two characters were high in rye and corn because these crops were both heterogeneous due to out crossing. All the varieties of 4 crops showed significant correlation between coleoptile length and plant height. Chilbohomil showed highly significant correlation between two characters.
This study was carried out to investigate the emergence, growth and yield components in rice inassoccation with Several cultivation methods direct sowing flooded paddy field(DSF), direct sowing by airplane(DSA), direct sowing in dry paddy field(DSD), 8days seedling planting(8DS), and 35days seedlingplanting(35DS). Also this study was attempeted to know the effects of calcium peroxide on germinationand early growth of rice under different soil conditions, seeding depth, application of organic matter, indirect sowing flooded paddy field.1. Rate of emergence was 73% in DSF, 70% in DSA, 62% in DSD, respectively, under the different cultivation method of rice in reclaimed paddy field.2. Degree of lodging in relation to cultivation was 5 at both DSF and DSA, 3 at DSD, 2 at both 8DS and 35DS respectively.3. Maximum tiller number was 568 per m2 at DSF and 527 at DSA. Heating was delayed for 4 days at DSF, 8 days at DSD and 2 days at 8DS as comparison with that at 35DS.4. Yield was higher 1% to 3% at DSF than that at DSA and DSD while decreased by 12% as compared with that of seedling planting.5. Total dry weight of seedling was decreased by 57% at 8DS, 60% at DSF 63% at DSD, respectively, under 0.3% of salinity. Ratio of decreasing in dry weight was higher with high salinity.6. The amount of O2 released was recorded highest to 2 to 3days after irrigatition, thereafter remaining constant to 10 days after irrigatition.7. The optimum coating amount of calcium peroxide for germination was a half of rice seed weight with 1 cm sowing depth and one-fold with 2-cm sowing depth when rice straw was not applied. With rice straw applied, on the other hand, the amount of peroxide was one-fold with 1-cm sowing depth. It was found that, under the condition of applied 600kg/10a, of 2-cm soil depth with rice straw calcium peroxide coating had no effect on emergence of rice seedling.8. In reclaimed paddy field, lodging degree was 7 with direct sowing by machine and 9 with direct sowing by hand.9. Yield was increased by 5% by applying rice straw with direct sowing by machine.
This study was aimed to provide understanding on the eco-physiological response of barley tillers as affected by sowing depth. Yield and yield contribution rate of tillers were investigated with the data of field experiments in the former Wheat and Barley Research Institute of Suwon, Korea from October 1983 to July 1984. When barley was sowed in various depth of 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9cm below the ground surface, 13 mainstem leaves appeared by 3 and 5cm treatments, and 11 leaves by 1, 7 and 9cm treatments. The effective tillers were observed from 8/0 in lcm depth, while 10/0 in 3-5cm depth and 9/0 in 7cm depth. There was no coleoptile tiller in 7cm depth sowing. Deep and shallow sowings produced fewer leaves and tillers, as early growth was hindered by deep sowing whereas cold damage was apparent in shallow sowing. Accordingly, more effective tillers per plant and higher grain weight per ear were observed in 3∼5cm depth sowing. Yield contribution by the tillers with various sowing depth was as follows: mainstem, 1, 2, 11, 3, 21, 4 and 12. The contribution of 1P, 13, 2P, 23 and 31 varied with the treatments.

In reviewing of the literature concerning agronomic practices on intensive pasture establishment the following suggestions were made : (1) The seedbed preparation should be involved physical manipulation of the soil tilth and consolidation of the soil by harrows and heavy roller. (2) In terms of methods of sowing, drilling favours the first and broadcasting the second however, the apparent superiority of band sowing over the above conventional methods is to reduce the direct toxic chemical effects from fertilizers to germinating seeds. (3) The most satisfactory seeding depth for grasses and legumes is commonly agreed to be approximately 1.3cm and seeding depth greater than 2.5cm seems to be generally detrimental. (4) Autumn and spring are most common sowing periods for grasses and legumes, however, early autumn being the most generally favoured, particularly in areas not subject to severe winter kill. (5) Select nurse crop species or cultivars which make Bess demands on light, nutrients and water, and lower seed rates should be used. (6) Seeding mixtures should be simple rather than complex and aggressive species should be included to a minor extent.
$GA_3$ treatments for seeds of Perilla frutescens var. acuta Kudo were evaluated as a means of improving the percent germination, and the interactions of $GA_3$, mulching, and sowing depth on seedling emergence were investigated in late sowing. Percentage germination of seeds treated with different concentration of $GA_3$ was the most effective in 100 ppm treatment for 24 hours. The germinability according to the seeds soaking time was not significantly different over 12 hours in 100 ppm $GA_3$. At high temperature $(25^{\circ}C\;and\;30^{\circ}C)$, percentage germination was significantly increased in 100 ppm ${GA_3}$ treatment. In late sowing (1th or 15th May), seedling emergence was significantly higher in 100 ppm $GA_3$ treatment than nontreatment, and that was significantly increased when the seeds treated with 100 ppm $GA_3$ were mulched with 10 mm rice hull after molding with 5 mm soil depth.
This experiment was conducted to obtain the basic information on ability of germination at low temperature with 26 cultivars of Korea including USA cultivars and to identify the optimal sowing depth in dry-direct seeded rice. Varietal difference in germination rate and days to emergence at low temperature($13^{\circ}C$) was observed. Average germination was 81.2% and range of germination rate showed 64.3 to 94.8%. In days to germination there was varietal difference. Average days to germination was 17.4 days and those range showed 14 to 24days. Negative high correlation was observed between the ability of germination and days to germination. Considering germination and days to germination. Jakwangdo, Nagdongbyeo, Cheongmeongbyeo, Calom, Anjungbyeo, Gyehwabyeo, Daegwanbyeo, Dongjinbyeo and Seohaebyeo were selected as a adaptable cultivar. High correlation was observed among the lodging index and sowing depth, stem diameter, height of central gravity, breaking strength. Seedling emergence was increased and days to emergence was shortened at the seeding depth of 1 and 3cm. Lodging index was decreased as seeding depth was deep and so the reasonable seeding depth would be around 3cm in direct seeded rice.
