The reconstruction of Structure Velocity Field Using Nearfield Acoustic Holography (근접음장 음향 홀로그래피를 이용한 평판내의 속도분포 예측)

  • Nearfield acoustic holography is known as a powerful tool to study sound radiation from a structure. In this work, the so called backward propagation of sound pressure field is studied to obtain the structure velocity distribution. The results, which were obtained using FFT algorithms, are presented for a finite plate excited at the frequencies above and below coincidence. These results illustrate the effect of stand-off distance and noise. An optimum cutoff frequency in wavenumber domain was suggested to reduce the effects of evanescent wave in the backward propagation. The experimental results were also included for a plate to demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested cutoff frequency. The optimum cutoff frequency to exclude the unwanted noise in the process of reconstruction of the velocity field gives the good results in both simulations and experiments.

SHAPING A NOZZLE WITH A CENTRAL BODY (스파이크 노즐 설계)

  • We calculate the coordinates of an axisymmetric nozzle with a central body. This nozzle ensures a transonic flow with a plane sound surface, which is orthogonal to the symmetry axis and has a wall kink at the sonic point, The Chaplygin transformation in the subsonic part of the flow leads the Dirichlet problem for a system of nonlinear equations. The definition domain of the solution in the velocity-hodograph plane is taken as a rectangle. This enables one to obtain the nozzle with a monotonic distribution of velocity along its subsonic part. In the nonlinear differential equation, the linear Chaplygin operator for plane flows is separated, which allows the iterative calculation of the solution. The supersonic part of the nozzle is calculated under the assumption that the flow at the nozzle exit is uniform and parallel to the symmetry axis; i.e., the supersonic jet outflows to the submerged space with the same pressure. The calculation is performed by the characteristic method. The exact solution of Tricomi equation for near-sonic flows with the straight sonic line is used to 'move away' the sound plane. The velocity distribution alone the supersonic part of the nozzle is also monotonic, which ensures the absence of the boundary-layer separation and, therefore, the adequacy of the ideal-gas model. calculations show that the flow in the supersonic part of the nozzle is continuous (compression shocks are absent)

Analysis of Noise Contribution using Frequency Response Function and Measurements of Noise Distribution for Railway Interior Noise (주파수 응답 함수를 이용한 철도차량 실내소음 기여도 분석 및 분포도 측정)

  • Speed-up and mass reduction of railway vehicle usually causes increased of the interior noise. One of the best ways to control the interior noise is to identify the noise level radiated from each of parts in the cabin. In this paper, we describe the method to estimate the interior noise nad evaluate the noise contribution to each of parts. This method is based that the sound pressure can be calculated by using the frequency response function and acceleration. According to analysis of the noise contribution, we validated that the noise radiated from the floor is the higher in the cabin. We also measured the noise distribution for the side and floor by using the microphone array in order to analyze the effect of the noise flowing into the cabin from the outdoors. Finally, we presented the plan of the interior noise reduction based on the noise levels radiated from each of parts.

  • A Reference Sound Source (RSS) is an important standard device employed in measuring sound power. The specifications of RSS is specified in international standards, and it is classified as a major calibration item in the field of acoustic metrology. Since the output power of RSS is affected by the supply voltage, each country needs to secure its own calibration service system. In this study, a procedure for calibrating a RSS is established based on the reverberant room conditions and uncertainty evaluation is conducted. Basically, the calibration procedure can apply a precision measurement process of acoustic power, and here, the measurement method using the reverberation chamber of ISO 3741 is applied. For this purpose, a measurement system is constructed, measurements are conducted with two types of RSS, and measurement uncertainty is evaluated. Through measurement examples, it is confirmed that the non-uniformity of the sound pressure distribution in the reverberation room and the volume measurement uncertainty contributed significantly to the overall uncertainty. Additionally, the influence of input voltage is experimentally examined to examine the uncertainty contribution that can be reflected in acoustic power measurements.

THE SEA NOISE OF THE MOVING TRAWL NET (예망어구에서 발생되는 수중음에 관한 연구)

  • The sea noise of moving trawl net was recorded by an underwater tape recorder which was set wireless, and was analyzed by a sound level meter and an octave-band analyzer. The frequency distribution of sea noise of the moving otter trawl net ranged from DC to 5000 Hz, and the dominant frequency zone ranged from 500 Hz to 700 Hz, and the maximum sound pressure is about 22 dB at the otter trawl net. The main sound source of the sea noise from the moving trawl net was found to be sea noise due to the resistance of the ground rope against the sea bottom.

Study on Mechanism of Combustion Instability in a Dump Gas Turbine Combustor (모형가스터빈 연소기내 연소불안정성에 대한 연구)

  • Combustion instabilities are an important concern associated with lean premixed combustion. Laboratory-scale dump combustor was used to understand the underlying mechanisms causing combustion instabilities. Experiments were conducted at atmospheric pressure and sound level meter was used to track the pressure fluctuations inside the combustor. Instability maps and phase-resolved OH chemiluminescence images were obtained at several conditions to investigate the mechanism of combustion instability and relations between pressure wave and heat release rate. It showed that combustion instability was susceptible to occur at higher value of equivalence ratio (>0.6) as the mean velocity was decreased. Instabilities exhibited a longitudinal mode with a dominant frequency of ∼341.8 Hz, which corresponded to a quarter wave mode of combustor. Heat release and pressure waves were in-phase when instabilities occurred. Rayleigh index distribution gave a hint about the location where the strong coherence of pressure and heat release existed. These results also give an insight to the control scheme of combustion instabilities. Emission test revealed that NOx emissions were affected by not only equivalence ratio but also combustion instability.

  • A computer program is developed for the prediction of the aerodynamic performance and the noise characteristics in the basic design step of axial flow fan. The flow field and the performance of fan are analyzed by using the streamline curvature computing scheme with total pressure loss and flow deviation models. Fan noise is assumed to be generated due to the pressure fluctuations induced by wake vortices of fan blades and to radiate via dipole distribution. The vortex-induced fluctuating pressure on blade surface is calculated by combining thin airfoil theory and the predicted flow field data. The predicted performances, sound pressure level and noise directivity patterns of fan by the present method are favorably compared with the test data of actual fan. Furthermore, the present method is shown to be very useful in optimizing design variables of fan with high efficiency and low noise level.

  • Ultrasonic field of 28kHz with sound pressure level 162dB has been employed to agglomerate the fine soot particle produces in a diffusion flame in a chamber. The agglomeration process has been investigated with digital camcorder and analysed in terms of the decrease of number density with exposure time. From the observation of agglomeration process, the initial agglomeration has been carried out during the short time, and it has been dominated by the orthokinetic collision. Thereafter, a slower agglomeration mechanism, driven by acoustic streaming in the chamber takes over and agglomeraters grew to diameters of several millimeters were levitated at the pressure node of the acoustic wave. And, the circular disk shape of large agglomeraters with the rotational and translational motion is observed.

  • An acoustic finite element model of a bridge is developed to evaluate the noise generated by the traffic-induced vibration of the bridge. The dynamic response of a multi-girder bridge, modeled by a 3-dimensional frame element model, is analyzed with a 3-axle 8 DOFs truck model and a 5-axle 13 DOFs semi-trailer. The flat plate element is used to analyze the acoustic pressure due to the fluid-structure interactions between the vibrating surface and contiguous acoustic fluid medium. The radiation fields of noise with a specified distribution of vibrating velocity and pressure on the structural surface are also computed using the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral. Although the noise produced by the bridge vibration is not serious in itself, which is below the audible frequency range, it should be considered as an interaction problem between vehicle noise and bridge vibration noise in order to evaluate the traffic noise around the bridge.

The radiation fields of noise with a specified distribution of vibrating velocity and pressure on the structural surface are also computed using the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral. In an attempt to illustrate the influence of the structural vibration noise of a bridge to total noise level around the bridge, the random function is used to generate the vehicle noise source including the engine noise and the rolling noise interacting between the road and tire. Among the diverse parameters affecting the dynamic response of bridge, the vehicle velocity, the vehicle weight, the spatial distribution of the road surface roughness, the stiffness degradation of the bridge and the variation of the air temperature changing the air density are found to be the main factors that increase the level of vibration noise. Consequently, The amplification rate of noise increases with the traveling speed and the vehicle weight.
