In this paper, intrusion detection technique based on the sound field variation of audio frequency in the security space is proposed. The sound field formed by sound source can be detected with the microphone when the obstacle or intruder is positioned. The sound field variation due to the intruder is mainly caused by the interference of audio wave. With the help of numerical simulation of sound field formations, the increase or decrease of sound pressure level is analyzed not only by the obstacle, but also by the intruder. Even the microphone is positioned behind the source, sound pressure level can be increased or decreased due to the interference of sound wave. Frequency response test is performed with Gaussian white noise signal to get the whole frequency response from 0 to half of sampling frequency. There are three security cases. Case 1 is the situation of empty space with and without intruder, case 2 is the situation of blocking obstacle with and without intruder, and case 3 is the situation of side blocking obstacle with and without intruder. At each case, the frequency response is obtained first at the security space without intruder, and second with intruder. From the experiment, intruder size of diameter of 50 cm pillar can be successfully detected with the proposed technique. Moreover, the case 2 and case 3 bring about bigger sound field variation. It means that the proposed technique have the potential of more credible security guarantee in real situation.
The measurement of floor impact sound have been standardized in KS 2810-1 and 2. The height of receiving microphones position is specified in the standard as 1.2m which is almost half height of apartment rooms as a listening position. In this study, receiving positions are investigated by measuring the distribution of sound pressure levels at 792 receiving microphone positions in the standard testing building. Standard impact sources, tapping machine and impact ball, are driven on the center position in the source room where is located at the above floor. It was found that the distribution of sound pressure levels in the receiving room indicates significant deviation at different frequencies there is more than 5dB drop at 63Hz but 2dB rise at 125Hz at a height of 1.2m when the impact ball is driven, in the other case of a generating tapping machine there is more than 2dB rise at 125Hz at a height of 1.2m due to room modes.
Pass-by noises of various trains were recorded by binaural recorder. The measured noises were evaluated using a sound pressure level and psychoacoustic metrics objectively. To analyze a binaural effect on annoyance that can be caused by train noise, auditory experiments were performed. Through the experiments, the annoyance differences between monaural and binaural train noises, the annoyance differences due to measurement angle and the annoyance differences due to kinds of train and measurement distance were determined. A correlation analysis was conducted to determine which index can affect the annoyance more strongly. As the result, a maximum rate of change of sharpness difference between left and right channels was proposed to predict the annoyance.
Numerical simulations and experiments were conducted to analyze the design parameters for a slim room air-conditioner. These design parameters included a fan shape, a front panel, a scroll shape, a bell mouth, a distance between a fan and a heat exchanger, etc. Each design parameter was analyzed numerically and/or experimentally in terms of the flow rate and the sound pressure level, which should be the most influential factors for developing the slim room air-conditioner. The fan with a uniform height showed a better performance than that with a linearly varying height. It is recommended to use a front grill rather than a front panel according to sound pressure levels since the front panel itself is a huge resistance to the inlet flow. A redesigned scroll shape by changing the rotational direction of a fan also contributed a lot to lowering the sound pressure level. There existed a distance between a fan and a heat exchanger, where flow rates increased effectively.
This paper proposed a method of reducing a noise in hard disk drive. This method is performed through three parts of procedures. First procedure is sound-oriented experiment, which contains sound intensity techniques and measurements of sound pressure level and sound power. Second is vibration-oriented experiment, which contains FRF(Frequency Response Function) analysis and disk vibration reduction techniques. And the third is computer-oriented simulation, which contains modal analysis and force vibration analysis using ANSYS and sound radiation prediction using SYSNOISE. As these three parts can affect with each other, they should be considered and conducted simultaneously. Through this procedure sound power is measured 2.7 Bels in idle-spinning mode, which is the lowest noise level in the HDD industries.
The high pressure drop is frequently required in the by-pass line of the pump or of the heat exchanger in power plants. However, cavitation produced by a high pressure drop could damage the pipe and pump blades. Conical orifices are adopted to reduce cavitation due to high pressure drop. The discharge coefficients of conical orifice plates were measured by weighing method in the standard water flow system. The discharge coefficients were larger when the ratios of thickness of orifice edge to throat diameter were larger. The noise generated from a conical orifice due to cavitation was measured with a sound level meter and a hydrophone. With increasing the bore diameter of the orifice, the sound pressure level or the noise level due to cavitation became higher. The noise level was suddenly increased at the inception of cavitation.

PURPOSES : This study is to predict the Sound Pressure Level(SPL) obtained from the Noble Close ProXimity(NCPX) method by using the Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm employing the taylor series and Linear Regression Analysis based on the least square method. The objective of utilizing EKF Algorithm is to consider stochastically the effect of error because the Regression analysis is not the method for the statical approach. METHODS : For measuring the friction noise between the surface and vehicle's tire, NCPX method was used. With NCPX method, SPL can be obtained using the frequency analysis such as Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT), Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and Constant Percentage Bandwidth(CPB) Analysis. In this research, CPB analysis was only conducted for deriving A-weighted SPL from the sound power level in terms of frequencies. EKF Algorithm and Regression analysis were performed for estimating the SPL regarding the vehicle velocities. RESULTS : The study has shown that the results related to the coefficient of determination and RMSE from EKF Algorithm have been improved by comparing to Regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The more the vehicle is fast, the more the SPL must be high. But in the results of EKF Algorithm, SPLs are irregular. The reason of that is the EKF algorithm can be reflected by the error covariance from the measurements.
A gear whine sound due to the axle system is one of the most important sound qualities in a sport utility vehicle (SUV). In the previous research about the gear whine sound, it was known that it is difficult to evaluate the gear whine sound objectively by using the only A-weighted sound pressure level because of the masking effect. In this paper, for the objective evaluation of the axle-gear whine sound, the characteristics of the axle-gear whine sound is at the first investigated based on the synthetic sound technology and the new objective evaluation method for the axle-gear whine sound is developed by using the sound metrics, which is the psychoacoustics parameters, and the artificial neural network (ANN) used for the modeling of the correlation between objective evaluation and subjective evaluation.
Aerodynamic performance of a cooling fan of driving motor was enhanced modifying the vane-shroud configuration. Performance of a target model was evaluated to obtain baseline data. The aerodynamic performance and sound pressure level were tested and measured with different numbers of vane of increased length. The tested models show high and stable performance and low values of specific noise level. The long vane-shroud structure induces more stable through flow and decreases the tip leakage flow, which contributes to the increases of performance and efficiency. The sound pressure level increases for the modified model, however, specific noise level decreases.
