Paulownia wood has been used as sound board for Korean traditional musical instruments such as Keomungo(Korean lute), Kayagum(twelve-stringed Korean harp) and Changgu(hour-glass shaped drum), etc. The acoustic properties of wood affected not only by dimensions but also by density and stiffness of wood. Due to inhomogeneity and hygroscopicity of wood. the acoustic properties of wood are inconsistent. To clarify the effect of moisture content and air dry density on acoustic properties, longitudinal vibration experiment was accomplished in 3 moisture content levels of 9.6, 11.1 and 12.5% and in 3 air dry density levels of 0.22, 0.25 and 0.28g/$cm^3$. The results were as follows: As the moisture content increased, the fundamental frequency. specific dynamic Young's modulus and sound velocity decreased, but the internal friction increased so that loss of energy increased. The values in damping of sound radiation were rapidly decreased at 12.5%. It meant that the damping of internal friction was larger than damping of sound radiation at high moisture content. As the air dry density increased, the fundamental frequency, specific dynamic Young's modulus and sound velocity increased, but the internal friction and damping of sound radiation decreased so that loss of energy decreased. And acoustic converting efficiency was hardly influenced by increasing air drying density.
In order to obtain the basic data concerning the optimal parameters in using Nd:YAG laser as a therapeutic modality to dentinal hypersensitivity, the author prepared 3 sections of sound dentin and 10 sections of sclerotic dentin with thickness of $0.5mm{\pm}0.1mm$ from human extracted teeth of anteriors and premolars, and applied the laser energy from a fiberoptic delivered, free running, pulsed Nd:YAG laser (wavelength 1064nm, pulse duration $120{\mu}sec$, fiber diameter $320{\mu}m$) to surfaces of sound and sclerotic dentin sections for 1 second with contact/unidirectional moving mode of the fiber under speed of 3mm~4mm/sec and parameters of 0.5W/10Hz, 1.0W/10Hz, 1.5W/10Hz, 2.0W/10Hz: $62J/cm^2$, $124J/cm^2$, $187J/cm^2$, $249J/cm^2$. The author comparatively evaluated the characteristics of ultrastructural changes on surfaces of sound and sclerotic dentin sections irradiated by the pulsed Nd:YAG laser using the scanning electron microscopy. A fairly ill-defined bordered surface of partially closed and melted dentinal tubules can be seen on the scanning electron microscopic feature of the sound dentin surface irradiated by the pulsed Nd:YAG laser with energy density of $62J/cm^2$. The physical modification of sound dentin surface extensively occurred depended on the increase of energy density from $62J/cm^2$ to $124J/cm^2$, $187J/cm^2$, $249J/cm^2$. While, a fairly well-defined bordered surface of partially closed and melted dentinal tubules with thickened peritubular dentin can be seen on the scanning electron microscopic feature of the sclerotic dentin surface irradiated by the pulsed Nd:YAG laser with energy density of $62J/cm^2$. The physical modification of sclerotic dentin surface of a fairly rough, shallow depression with many cracks, thickened peritubular dentin and structureless dentinal tubules extensively occurred depended on the increase of energy density from $62J/cm^2$ to $124J/cm^2$, $187J/cm^2$, $249J/cm^2$ compared to those of sound dentin surface irradiated by the pulsed Nd:YAG laser under the same parameters. Therefore, it is recommended that the pulsed Nd:YAG laser as a therapeutic modality to dentinal hypersensitivity should be applied with the less energy density than $62J/cm^2$ on the sound dentin surface, and its energy density on the partially sclerotic dentin surface should be lower than that on the sound dentin surface to preserve tooth from unnecessary excessive structural destruction.

The purpose of this study is to develop a sound absorbing material for indoor which manufactured by a clay and binding material. The seven kind of sound absorbing specimens which sintered through a mold process at high temperature were manufactured for the purpose of testing sound absorption performance. The random and normal sound absorption coefficients were measured for the sintered clay sound absorbing specimens with different particle size, density and mixture ratio. From the experimental results, it was found that its particle size was closely related to the sound absorption performance. It was shown that the sintered clay sound absorbing specimen had the sound absorption properties of a fiber-type or a resonance-type sound absorbing material depending on the particle size.

The active noise control which regards the acoustic power as a target function to be minimized, is analyzed to test its feasibility of which simplifies the measurement system compared with the global acoustic energy based active noise control system. In fact, it is found that the acoustic power based active noise control strategy is equally likely as good as the global acoustic energy based active noise control method if the acoustic field of interest is diffusive or very low model density one. In the intermediate model density field, we also demonstrate that the power based control gives the similar results as the energy based control in terms of global sound energy reduction for the lightly damped enclosure which might be most important system in practical application. From all the theoretical and power based control strategy is dependent on the characteristics of the acoustic field to be controlled; i.e., the model density distribution, the degree of reverberation, and on the strength of modal interaction of the control source with the primary source; i.e., the location of control source.

Room acoustic properties of coupled rooms connected by an aperture has been analyzed using statistical acoustic model based on the diffused sound field assumption, which has limitation in dealing with the parameters such an room geometries and non uniform absorptivity of the boundary surfaces. In order to overcome these difficulties the acoustic diffusion model has been introduced, by which distribution of the acoustic energy density can be analyzed for various shapes and wall absorptivity. In this study acoustic properties of coupled rooms connected by an aperture(e.g. door) is analyzed using acoustic diffusion equation, which is solved numerically. The mean energy densities of two rooms obtained by the diffusion model are compared with those from the statistical model. The results show good agreement for various coupling aperture sizes and absorption coefficients. For a limiting case when the partition wall is substituted by an aperture and the two rooms eventually forms a single room, results of coupled room analysis using diffusion model show good agreement with those of a single room.

A new real time sound field visualization technique is introduced in this study using PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) technique. Small particles of which density is small enough to follow up the air flow are used for sound visualization. When the driving frequency is in the vicinity of the resonance frequency of the simplified 2-dimensional muffler system, an acoustic streaming is shown and of which velocity distribution is obtained through PIV technique. It is experimentally proved that the present technique is able to visualize and quantify the sound field's energy flow.

Laser application to modify healthy permanent dentin to improve microhardness and caries resistence has been previously reported but the physical modification and ablation thresholds of carious and sclerotic dentin has yet to be identified. This study determined the energy density required by modify (physical modification threshold, PMT) and remove (ablation threshold, AT) infected carious, affected and selerotic dentin compared to healthy permanent dentin. $1{\pm}0.25mm$ thick dentin sections(n=272) from extracted human teeth were used. Smear layer was removed 0.5M EDTA for 2 minutes. Utilizing three pulsed fiberopitc delivered contact lasers with different emission wavelengths($1.06{\mu}m$=Nd : YAG, $2.10{\mu}m$=Ho : YAG and $2.94{\mu}mEr$ : YAG). The energy density($J/cm^2$) was incrementally increased and the resulting tissue interaction classified on a scale from 0-6. A minimum of 5 repetitions/energy density were completed. Light microscopy(10-25X) was used to verify the physical modification(scale=3) and ablation thresholds(scale=4) of the various forms of dentin and the data were analyzed by logistic regression at the 95 % confidence interval. PMT and AT by the laser and the dentin types were: PMT and AT was lower in infected dentin than in sound dentin for all lasers. PMT and AT induced by Nd : YAG>Ho : YAG>Er : YAG for all forms of dentin. Microhardness was increased in sound dentin at PMT. Morphology of crater examined by light microscopy showed Nd : YAG was safe and effective for removing carious dentin and Er: YAG was effective for removing sound dentin. The PMT and AT for YAG lasers are different as a function of dentin type which may be utilized for selective modification and removal of dentin.
Neighboring buildings which are sufficiently close to both sides of an urban street reflect sound back to the road and sound energy is increased by thses reflectors. Therefore, this study is forcussed on the prediction modeling for road traffic noise under reflective conditions. A part of a block in urban road is regared as a box. The sound energy density in the box is employed to establish prediction formulas in terms of independent variables. The variables. The validity of the proposed prediction method has been experimentally confirmed by applying it to actually measured road traffic noise data. On the whole, the agreement between measured and predicted noise levels appeared to be satisfactory.

In this paper, Power Flow Boundary Element Method(PFBEM) is studied as the numerical method for the vibration and sound predictions of complex structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. NASPFA, the sound analysis software based on PFBEM, is developed and is used for the vibro-acoustic analysis. And also the developed software is used for the prediction of interior and exterior sound fields of vibrating structures and for the analysis of the multi-domain problems. To verify the accuracy, NASPFA is applied to the prediction of the energy distribution in the simple structures, and its results are compared with exact PFA solutions. And various practical vehicle systems are modeled and the distributions of the acoustical energy density are successfully predicted.
In this research, the simulation method for acoustic sounds by a uniform flow around a two-dimensional circular cylinder by using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann model is explained. To begin with, we examine the boundary condition which determined with the distribution function $f_i^{(0)}$ concerning with density, velocity and internal energy at boundary node. Very small acoustic pressure fluctuation, with same frequency as that of Karman vortex street, is compared with the pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder. The acoustic sound' propagation velocity shows that acoustic approa ching the upstream, due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow, slowly propagated. For the do wnstream, on the other hand, it quickly propagates. It is also apparently the size of sound pressure was proportional to the central distance $r^{-1/2}$ of the circular cylinder. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be one of powerful tool for simulation of gas flows.
