  • Two modes of shock waves propagating in He II (superfluid helium), this is a compression and a thermal shock waves, were studied experimentally by using superconductive temperature sensors, piezo pressure transducers and Schlieren visualization method with an ultra-high-speed video camera (40,500 pictures/sec). The shock waves are induced by a gas dynamic shock wave impingement upon a He II free surface. It is found that the shock Mach number of a transmitted compression shock wave is up to 1.16, and the shock Mach number of a thermal shock wave coincides well with the second sound velocity under each compressed He II state condition. The temperature rise ratio of an induced thermal shock wave to that of an incident gas dynamic shock wave was found to be very small, as small as 0.003 at 1.80K.

  • This paper presents an implementation of real-time speaker localization using audio-visual information. Four channels of microphone signals are processed to detect vertical as well as horizontal speaker positions. At first short-time average magnitude difference function(AMDF) signals are used to determine whether the microphone signals are human voices or not. And then the orientation and distance information of the sound sources can be obtained through interaural time difference and interaual level differences. Finally visual information by a camera helps get finer tuning of the speaker orientation. Experimental results of the real-time localization system show that the performance improves to 99.6% compared to the rate of 88.8% when only the audio information is used.

  • Defect of apple was depreciated the product value and causes storage disease seriously. To detect the defect of ‘Fuji’apple with machine vision system, the optical characteristics of defect should be investigated. In this research, absorbance spectra of defect were acquired by spectrophotometer in the range of visible and NIR region(400∼1,100nm) and L*a*b* color values were also acquired by colorimeter. NIR machine vision system was constructed with B&W camera, frame grabber, 16 tungsten-halogen lamps, variable focal length lens and NIR bandpass filter which was mounted to lens outward. Average gray values of defect at 15 NIR wavelength were acquired and the significant NIR wavelength was selected by comparing Mahalanobis distance between sound and defective apple. As the result of Mahalanobis distance analysis, the significant wavelength to discriminate the defectives in ‘Fuji’apple were found to be 720nm for scab and 970nm for bruise and cuts and 920nm was also effective regardless of defective types.

  • MERCOSUR, which is the biggest economic community in the Latin America, has great potential as Korea's export market with 220 million population and 2.8 trillion$ GDP. In the midst of global economic crises, the importance of MERCOSUR is highlighted with relatively sound economic growth. The average tariff rate of MERCOSUR is 10.4~12.2% which is almost same as that of Korea(12.2%), but the tariff rates on Korea's main export items such as auto, display, digital camera, mobile phone are as high as 20~30%, which means that Korea-MERCOSUR FTA will result in substantial growth of Korea's export. In pursuing Korea-MERCOSUR FTA, cooperations in natural resources, agriculture, mid-sized aircraft, construction and green energy as well as liberalization of commodity market are very important for Korea. To realize Korea-MERCOSUR FTA, it is essential to overcome the objections from the manufacturing sectors of MERCOSUR. So it is desirable to aim relatively low in terms of the level of liberalization at the beginning, and expand corporate and industrial cooperation between Korea and MERCOSUR's manufacturing industries.

  • Measuring system for piezo inkjet droplet and ink jetting status was developed. In order to measure the jetting performance, two different approaches have been used. One is to use the self-sensing capability of the piezo actuator in the printhead. The other is to use the droplet image from a CCD camera. The software as well as hardware using two approaches was developed. The self-sensing signal as well as meniscus motion was shown to be useful in monitoring jetting conditions. Furthermore, ink properties such as viscosity and speed of sound, which is related to jetting performance, can be understood.

  • Most of the surveillance systems are based on CCTV, closed circuit Television. A surveillance system for urban transit is also based on CCTV. Urban transit operation corporations have a CCTV system and a lot of cameras to monitor the situation for the passengers, and the important facilities. But this system has some problems that it cannot respond to a state of emergency immediately. In this paper, we describe a configuration of an intelligent surveillance system for urban transit to solve that problems. Our proposed configuration include a camera with some intelligent module, and a processor to integrate various data from not only cameras, but also sensors such as a temperature sensor, a heat sensor, sound sensor and etc. and some other data generator. This system configuration can decide the state of the passengers and the facilities. The surveillance system with this configuration can available with the existing surveillance system without a considerable improvement.

  • Advances of the computer system and the high-speed network have made it possible to popularize the multimedia services among various applications in the internet. In addition, the number of the users and the kinds of multimedia services have been increasing day by day. Thus, this paper presents an internet live-broadcasting server system to accelerate these trends. The developed system facilitates creating or joining the broadcasting with just such basic components as PC camera and sound card. Also, it guarantees the scalability that the channels could be dynamically expanded as the population of users rapidly increases. The clustered streaming servers are generically managed by the CSM ...

  • David Harris argues that mass media suppress counter-hegemonic factors in order to reach audience. According to Harris's theory, the success of the film "Tess" depends on its effective adaptation from Thomas Hardy's novel Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1891). Tess (1979), directed by Roman Polansky, casting Nastassia Kinski for Tess, was acclaimed as a professional and commercial success, awarded with various prizes. Hardy's aim at criticizing Victorian English social and moral standard through Tess appears obscure in Polansky's film which focuses on the aesthetics of human body and capital. Polanski's Tess with urban white beauty does not emerge victimized by poverty, which the late twentieth century audience under the capitalist umbrella may abhor. To examine his use of music, sound effect, visual images by means of camera operation—angles, distances, close-ups and frequent movements—light and color, and mythic elements in the film, show Polansky's sharp perception of his contemporary audience's desire and conscientious work upon it.

  • Virtual reality is being increasingly used for healing and therapy for mental health. In this study, we developed VR-based immersive content that enables virtual travel without the limitations of time and physical conditions. We aim to develop and produce VR content for relaxation and meditation using the beautiful natural scenery. To make realistic and immersive content, we took a video of natural sceneries with a small UAV connected to a VR camera. The content was developed through stitching, video editing and post-processing of the initially captured video data, and then the created VR video was inserted into the VR device. The produced content will be helpful for stress and used to heal the mind and body of exhausted modern people by providing the place with great scenery and sound in an immersive way at any time.
