  • Ash solutions derived from vegetation have been known for their good mordanting action. They are used as finishing agents because they are able to promote dye uptake. It is expected that the types of ash solutions may have been different worker by worker since the workers have employed easy-to-get plants, when we reviewed old literature. However, the ash solutions are being used without clear distinctions between their characteristics. In this study, camellia ash solution and rice straw ash solution were prepared according to traditional methods. Using these solutions as mordanting agents, natural dyeing experiments with Caesdpinia Sappan were peformed. Following the dyeing procedure, the effect of the type of ash solution on the color of the dyed fabric was evaluated. The results showed that the ash solution mordanting effect us not dependent upon the components of the ash solution. It was also demonstrated that the mordanting effect was not based on the action of the metallic ions in the ash solution. The pH values of the ash solutions were adjusted in order to investigate the effect of changes in ash solution alkalinity on the dyeing process. The pH values ranged from neutral or weak acidity to the alkaline range in order to evaluate the characteristics of the mordanting tv the ash solutions.

  • Based on Ricatti equation $XA^{-1}X=B$ for two (positive invertible) operators A and B which has the geometric mean $A{\sharp}B$ as its solution, we consider a cubic equation $X(A{\sharp}B)^{-1}X(A{\sharp}B)^{-1}X=C$ for A, B and C. The solution X = $(A{\sharp}B){\sharp}_{\frac{1}{3}}C$ is a candidate of the geometric mean of the three operators. However, this solution is not invariant under permutation unlike the geometric mean of two operators. To supply the lack of the property, we adopt a limiting process due to Ando-Li-Mathias. We define reasonable geometric means of k operators for all integers $k{\geq}2$ by induction. For three positive operators, in particular, we define the weighted geometric mean as an extension of that of two operators.

  • The numerical model predicting the behaviours of submerged mound constructed by dredged material is developed in this paper. The model is based on the Bailard's sediment transport formula, Stokes' second-order wave theory and the sediment balance equation. Nonlinear partial differential equation which is the same form as convection-dispersion equation which represents change of bed section can be obtained by substituting sediment transport equation for equation of sediment conservation. By this process, the analytical solution by which the characteristic of the behaviours of submerged mound can be estimated is derived by probably combining the convention coefficient and the dispersion coefficient governing the behaviours of submerged mound and the probability density function representing the wave characteristics. The validity of the analytical solution is verified by comparing the analytical solution which is assumed to estimate the movement rate submerged mound by bed-load with the field data of the past and its characteristic is analyzed quantitatively by obtaining the mean of the dispersion coefficient representing the extent of the decrease rate of the submerged mound height.

  • This paper is concerned with a boundary control problem for the vorticity minimization, in which the flow is governed by the stationary two dimensional Stokes equations. We wish to find a mathematical formulation and a relevant process for an appropriate control along the part of the boundary to minimize the vorticity due to the flow. After showing the existence and uniqueness of an optimal solution, we derive the optimality conditions. The differentiability of the state solution in regard to the control parameter shall be conjunct with the necessary conditions for the optimal solution. For the minimizer, an algorithm based on the conjugate gradient method shall be proposed.

  • An almost pure phase of $Ba_3Si_6O_{12}N_2$ doped with $Eu^{2+}$ was successfully synthesized through the ammonia nitridation of an oxide precursor prepared through an aqueous-solution method, using propylene- glycol-modified silane. The emission peak intensity of the obtained $Ba_3Si_6O_{12}N_2:Eu^{2+}$ was -2.2 times higher than that of the sample prepared through a solid-state reaction method.

  • We report the syntheses bis-(N,N-diethylaminoethyl) perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (PDI) of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystal and it dissolves in photocurable ionic monomer solution. PDI-acrylic acid solution was observed whether liquid crystal phase appeared in each concentration. Thin film polarizer was prepared by simultaneously coating and aligning the solution of PDI-acrylic acid (in the chromonic nematic phase) onto glass substrates using a mechanical shearing force and was cured by irradiation of UV light. Also Photopatterned polarizer is manufactured by same process.

  • A procedure for the preparation of peptizable pseudoboehmite has been described in detail based upon a process of neutralization of an aqueous aluminum sulfate or chloride solution with aqueous ammonia. In order to obtain peptizable pseudoboehmite products, carefully controlled conditions were required in the whole processes of neutralization, aging, washing, and drying. The optimum conditions experimentally found are the following. The aluminum salt solution is neutralized with aqueous ammonia until the final pH of the solution reaches 10.0 to 10.8 or 9.0 to 9.3 for the sulfate of chloride, respectively. The alumina gel formed is subjected to aging at $80^{\circ}C for about 3 hours and washed with water more than 5 times to reduce the residual sulfate or chloride ion in the final products to less than 4%. The pseudoboehmite gel thus obtained should be dried oven at 80 to $100^{\circ}C for a few to several hours depending on the selected temperatures.

  • Due to the uniquely slow convergence speed of the EM algorithm, it suffers form a lot of processing time until the desired deconvolution image is obtained when the image is large. To cope with the problem, in this paper, an immediate solution of the EM algorithm is provided under the Gaussian image model. It is derived by finding the recurrent formular of the EM algorithm and then substituting the results repeatedly. In this paper, two types of immediate soultion of image deconboution by EM algorithm are provided, and both methods have been shown to work well. It is expected that it free the processing time of image deconvolution because it no longer requires an iterative process. Based on this, we can find the statistical properties of the restored image at specific iterates. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method through a simple experiment, and discuss future concerns.

  • Recently, Multi-Objective Optimization of design elements is an important issue in building design. Design variables that considering the specificities of the different environments should use the appropriate algorithm on optimization process. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the optimal solution using three evolutionary algorithms and energy modeling simulation. This paper consists of three steps: i)Developing three evolutionary algorithm model for optimization of design elements ; ii) Conducting Multi-Objective Optimization based on the developed model ; iii) Conducting comparative analysis of the optimal solution from each of the algorithms. Including Non-dominated Sorted Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II), Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) and Random Search were used for optimization. Each algorithm showed similar range of result data. However, the execution speed of the optimization using the algorithm was shown a difference. NSGA-II showed the fastest execution speed. Moreover, the most optimal solution distribution is derived from NSGA-II.

  • The groutability depends on the properties of the grout, its injection processes, and on the mechanical properties of the soil formation. During the process of pouring cement-based grouting into a porous medium, a variation with time occurs in the viscosity of grout suspension. In addition the particle filtration phenomenon will limit the expansion of the grouted zone because cement particles are progressively stagnant within the soil matrix. In this paper, a closed-form solution was derived by implementing the mass balance equations and the generalized phenomenological filtration law, which can be used to evaluate the deposition of cement-based grout in the soil matrix. The closed-form solution relevant to a particular spherical flow was modified by a step-wise numerical calculation, considering the variable viscosity caused by a chemical reaction, and the decrease in porosity resulting from grout particle deposition in the soil pores. A series of pilot-scale chamber injection tests was performed to verify that the developed step-wise numerical calculation is able to evaluate the injectable volume of grout and the deposition of grout particles. The results of the chamber injection tests concurred well with that of the step-wise numerical calculation. Based on the filtration phenomenon, a new groutability criterion of cement-based grout in a porous medium was proposed, which might facilitate a new insight in the design of the grouting process.
