To evaluate LBM we performed the simulation of the unsteady two dimensional flow over a square cylinder in a channel in moderate Reynolds number range, $100\~500$ by using LBM and Fractional-Step method. Frist of all we compared LBM solution of Poiseuille flow applied Farout and periodic boundary conditions with the analytical solution to verify the applicability of the boundary conditions. For LBM simulation the calculation domain was formed by structured 500x100 grids. Prescribed maximum velocity and density inlet and Farout boundary conditions were imposed on the in-out boundaries. Bounceback boundary condition was applied to the channel and the cylinder waifs. The flow patterns and vortex shedding strouhal numbers were compared with previous research results. The flow patterns by LBM were in agreement with the flow pattern by fractional step method. Furthermore the strouhal number computed by LBM simulation result was more accurate than that of fractional step method through the comparison of the previous research results.

Methods for the solution of linear stability for compressible boundary layers are developed. Both the global and local methods for stability analysis are used. Both methods are use in solution of Coutte shear flow and the results are analysis and compare. Some well-known conclusions of Coutte flow are proved by these methods again.

A fixed-bed zinc/nickel redox flow battery (RFB) is designed and developed. The proposed cell has been established in the form of a fixed bed RFB. The zinc electrode is immersed in an aqueous NaOH solution (anolyte solution) and the nickel electrode is immersed in the catholyte solution which is a mixture of potassium ferrocyanide, potassium ferricyanide and sodium hydroxide as the supporting electrolyte. In the present work, the electrode area has been maximized to $1500cm^2$ to enforce an increase in the energy efficiency up to 77.02% at a current density $0.06mA/cm^2$ using a flow rate $35cm^3/s$, a concentration of the anolyte solution is $1.5mol\;L^{-1}$ NaOH and the catholyte solution is $1.5mol\;L^{-1}$ NaOH as a supporting electrolyte mixed with $0.2mol\;L^{-1}$ equimolar of potassium ferrocyanide and potassium ferricyanide. The outlined results from this study are described on the basis of battery performance with respect to the current density, velocity in different electrolytes conditions, energy efficiency, voltage efficiency and power of the battery.

In this paper, we present an efficient pricing strategy, the pivot and probe Algorithm for Network Flow Problems(PAPANET), specifically for solving capacitated, linear network flow problem (NPs). The PAPANET begins with an initial relaxed network problem(RNP), consisting of all the nodes and initial candidate arcs(possibly a few least cost arcs form the original problem and a set of all the artificial and slack arcs). After an initial solution to the RNP is derived by pivoting, the PROBE procedure identifies a set of most violated arcs from the noncandidate arcs that are not considered to be in the current RNP, and adds them to the RNP. The procedure also discards a set of least favorable, zero flow, nonbasic arcs from the RNP. The new RNP is solved to optimality and the procedure continues until all of the dual constraints of the noncandidate arcs are satisfied by the dual solution to the RNP. The PAPANET effectively reduces the problem size, time per pivot, and solution CPU time by eliminating noncandidate arcs. Computational tests on randomly generated problems indicate that PAPANET achieves and average savings of 50-80% of the solution CPU time of that of a comparable standard network simplex implementation.

A multi-level optimal power flow(OPF) algorithm has been evolved from a simple two stage optimal Power flow algorithm for constrained power economic dispatch control. In the proposed algorithm, we consider various constraints such as ower balance, generation capacity, transmission line capacity, transmission losses, security equality, and security inequality constraints. The proposed algorithm consists of four stages. At the first stage, we solve the aggregated problem that is the crude classical economic dispatch problem without considering transmission losses. An initial solution is obtained by the aggregation concept in which the solution satisfies the power balance equations and generation capacity constraints. Then, after load flow analysis, the transmission losses of an initial generation setting are matched by the slack bus generator that produces power with the cheapest cost. At the second stage we consider transmission losses. Formulation of the second stage becomes classical economic dispatch problem involving the transmission losses, which are distributed to all generators. Once a feasible solution is obtained from the second stage, transmission capacity and other violations are checked and corrected locally and quickly at the third stage. The fourth stage fine tunes the solution of the third stage to reach a real minimum. The proposed approach speeds up the two stage optimization method to an average gain of 2.99 for IEEE 30, 57, and 118 bus systems and EPRI Scenario systems A through D testings.
A two-dimensional laminar flow through a channel, on which a couple of symmetric vertical fins are attached, is investigated. The stokes flow for this channel flow is investigated analytically and laminar flow numerically. For analytic solution, the method of eigen function expansion and collocation method are employed. For numerical solution, finite difference method(FDM) is used to obtain vorticity and stream function. From the results, streamline patterns are shown and the pressure drop due to the attached fins is calculated, which depends on the length of fins and Reynolds number. While $Re, streamline pattern is symmetric, a pair of additional asymmetric solutions appear for $Re>Re_c$, where the critical Reynolds number $Re_c$ depends on the length of the fin.

For construction and design of tunnels, groundwater flow models are used to find the influence of groundwater to the stability of tunnels considering the geological condition around the tunnels and the materials used in tunnel linings. For the analysis of tunnel flow, some commercial programs, e.g. MODFLOW, SEEP/W etc., are used. These programs have limitations that MODFLOW could not define curved surface smoothly in three dimensional flow media and SEEP/W is the 2-dimensional flow model. In this paper, the ability of a finite element program developed for analyzing 3-dimensional groundwater flow is examined. Confined steady state groundwater flow solution in non-homogeneous media is obtained using isoparametric element with eight trilinear hexahedron nodes and is compared with the result of MODFLOW. It was found that the solution yielded a good result with the three dimensional flow studied.
The objectives of the present work is to investigate the influence of the solution cooled absorber(SCA), refrigerant drain heat exchanger(RSX), exhaust gas/solution heat exchanger(ESX) and high efficiency solution heat exchanger on COP for a double-effect series-flow absorption chiller. A simulation program has been prepared for the cycle analysis of absorption chillers. As a result, Solution heat exchangers(LSX, HSX) are a most effective element for the COP than the others. In spite of the poor contribution to COP, SCA make a rule to reduce the crystallization phenomena of LiBr solution at solution heat exchanger. And the optimum solution split ratio are varied with the relative size of RSX and LSX.

The present work performs three-dimensional flow calculations based on Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) and Delayed Detached Eddy Simulation (DDES) to investigate the flow field of a transonic rotor (NASA Rotor 37) at near-stall condition. It is found that the DES approach is likely to predict well the complex flow characteristics such as secondary vortex or turbulent flow phenomenon than RANS approach, which is useful to describe the flow mechanism of a transonic compressor. Especially, the DES results show improvement of predicting the flow field in the wake region and the model captures reasonably well separated regions compared to the RANS model. Besides, it is discovered that the three-dimensional vortical flows after the vortex breakdown from the rotor tip region are widely distributed and its vortex structures are clearly present. Near the rotor leading edge, a part of the tip leakage flows in DES solution spill over into next passage of the blade owing to the separation vortex flow and the backflow is clearly seen around the trailing edge of rotor tip. Furthermore, the DES solution shows strong turbulent eddies especially in the rotor hub, rotor tip section and the downstream of rotor trailing edge compared to the RANS solution.
