A three-dimensional multidirectional nonlinear numerical wave tank (NWT) based on the Navier-Stokes equations and the Finite Volume Method (FVM) is developed by using the two-phase hydrodynamic flow solver naoe-FOAM-SJTU based on the open source toolbox OpenFOAM. The free surface is capturing with the Volume Of Fluids (VOF). The directional wave including Stokes wave, solitary wave and nonlinear wave are simulated and verified. The multi-directional waves are also simulated with particular wave spectral such as JONSWAP and wave directional spreading function. The obtained numerical results show the capability of the solver to generate different type of multidirectional nonlinear waves accurately. Meanwhile, it implies that the presented NWT can easily extend to model the wave-structures interactions, which will be great help to the offshore structures design.

A prediction method, based on the Morison equation as well as Froude-Krylov formula, is presented to simulate the loads acting on the columns and caissons of the semi-submersible platform induced by Internal Solitary Wave (ISW) respectively. Combined with the experimental results, empirical formulas of the drag and inertia coefficients in Morison equation can be determined as a function of the Keulegan-Carpenter (KC) number, Reynolds number (Re) and upper layer depth h1/h respectively. The experimental and calculated results are compared. And a good agreement is observed, which proves that the present prediction method can be used for analyzing the ISW-forces on the semi-submersible platform. Moreover, the results also demonstrate the layer thickness ratio has a significant effect upon the maximum horizontal forces on the columns and caissons, but both minimum horizontal and vertical forces are scarcely affected. In addition, the incoming wave directions may also contribute greatly to the values of horizontal forces exerted on the caissons, which can be ignored in the vertical force analysis.
The run-up and the evolution of solitary waves on steep beaches are investigated by using a two-dimensional boundary integral equation model. The model is first used to compute the run-up heights of solitary waves on a relatively mind slope. The model is verified by comparing the computed numerical solutions with available experimental data, other numerical solutions and approximated analytical solutions. The agreement between the present numerical solutions and the other data is found to be excellent. The model is then applied to the calculation of run-up heights on very steep slopes. As far as the maximum run-up of solitary waves is concerned, the boundary integral equation model provides reasonable and reliable solutions. Finally, the evolution on steep beaches is also examined and the obtained wave heights are compared with those calculated from the Green's law.
A Digital Wave Tank simulation technique, based on a finite-difference method and a modified marker-and-cell (MAC) algorithm, is applied in order to investigate the characteristics of nonlinear Tsunami propagations and their interactions with a 2D sloping beach, Ohkushiri Island, and to predict maximum wove run-up around the island. The Navier-Stokes (NS) and continuity equation are governed in the computational domain, and the boundary values are updated at each time step, by a finite-difference time-marching scheme in the frame of the rectangular coordinate system. The fully nonlinear, kinematic, free-surface condition is satisfied by the modified marker-density function technique. The near shore Tsunami is assumed to be a solitary wave, and is generated from the numerical wave-maker in the developed Digital Wave Tank. The simulation results are compared with the experiments and other numerical methods, based on the shallow-water wave theory.

Tsunami take away life, wash houses away and bring devastation to social infrastructures such as breakwaters, bridges and ports. The targeted coastal structure object in this study can be damaged mainly by the tsunami force together with foundation ground failure due to scouring and liquefaction. The increase of excess pore water pressure composed of oscillatory and residual components may reduce effective stress and, consequently, the seabed may liquefy. If liquefaction occurs in the seabed, the structure may sink, overturn, and eventually increase the failure potential. In this study, the solitary wave was generated using 2D-NIT(Two-Dimensional Numerical Irregular wave Tank) model, and the dynamic wave pressure acting on the seabed and the estimated surface boundary of the vertical revetment. Simulation results were used as an input data in a finite element computer program(FLIP) for elasto-plastic seabed response. The time and spatial variations in excess pore water pressure, effective stress, seabed deformation, structure displacement and liquefaction potential in the seabed were estimated. From the results of the analysis, the stability of the vertical revetment was evaluated.

This paper describes the generation and propagation of internal solitary wave in a two-layer fluid system by numerical analysis. Characteristics of interfacial soliton such as wave type, wave height, wave celerity are investigated numerically with respect to an extent of initial disturbance, fluid thicknesses of the two fluids and etc. The difference between the internal wave propagation on sloping beach and flat bottom was also examined. Laboratory experiments were conducted in the wave flume and compared with the results of numerical computation for verification.
In order to generate the stable tsunami in a numerical wave tank, a two-dimensional numerical model, LES-WASS-2D has been introduced the non-reflected wave generation system for various tsunami waveforms. And then, comparing to existing experimental results it is revealed that computed results of the LES-WASS-2D are in good agreement with the experimental results on spatial and temporal tsunami waveforms in the vicinity of a seawall. It is shown that the applied model in this study is applicable to the numerical simulations on tsunami overtopping and inundation. Using the numerical results, the characteristics of overtopping and inundation on a seawall are also discussed with volume ratio of tsunami and relative tsunami height. The wider the tsunami waveform, tsunami overtopping quantity and inundation distances are linearly increased. Therefore, the hydraulic characteristics is highly likely to be underestimated against the real tsunami if the solitary wave of approximation theory is applied for the overtopping/inundation simulations due to a tsunami.
A virtual reality technology for multipurpose numerical simulation is developed to reproduce and investigate a variety of ocean environmental problems in a 3D Numerical Wave Tank(NWT). The governing equations for solving incompressible fluid motion are Navier-Stokes equation and continuity equation. The Marker-Density function technique is adopted to implement the fully nonlinear freesurface kinematic condition. The marine environmental situations, i.e., waves, currents, etc., are reproduced by use of multi-segmented wavemakers on the basis of the so-called ″snake-principle″. In this paper, some numerical reproduction techniques for regular, and irregular waves, multi-directional waves, Bull's-eye wave. wave-current, and solitary wave are presented, and a model test in motion with large amplitude of roll angle is conducted in the developed 3D-NWT, using a overlaid grid system.

In this study, the solitary wave-induced tsunami force acting on an onshore bridges in coastal area was numerically modelled by means of TWOPM-3D based on Navier-Stokes solver and VOF method which can track free surface effectively. The validity of numerical analysis was verified by comparing the experimental tsunami bore force acting on vertical wall and column structure. In particular, the characteristics of tsunami force with the changing tsunami intensity were surveyed through numerical experiments. The availability of 3-dimensional numerical analysis was reviewed through the comparison between the existing numerical results and design criteria for each drag force coefficient by applying Morison equation considering only drag force. As reasonable and high-precision estimation method of tsunami force, it was suggested to apply the estimation method taking drag and inertial force into consideration at the same time.
